Default Return of the degen build

for the past 3 months or so, degen builds were pretty much non existant. People didnt really play a full degen build, hex removal got too prevalant and it was really difficult to run a degen with hexes. It was also worthless to run something like a migrane mesmer because the 2 hexes you need on were so easily taken off with the abundant hex removal. As IWAY becomes even more popular in the 2 trapper version AND most "IWAY newbis" are starting to get smart at playing the IWAY build, Organized teams are more anti IWAY than anti hex these days. This is the time for the return of the degen build.

why return to the degen build. Heres some selling points.

Degen builds dominate IWAY. I have played on a degen build about every other time i go to halls lately and we always flawless IWAY. Spiteful spirit, faintheartedness, even conjur just destroys IWAY. If you have three or 4 hex'ers and a gale warrior, you just rip IWAY up.

They are a nice change of pace. Most people don't play the degen build and it can be fun.

It is also a great holding build, if you can get the altar first on say broken tower, even a good spike team will have trouble taking down squishi targets once you have hexed them up.

They don't take the coordination that a spike build does, so you are kinda doing your own thing that you have planned out before hand, which is can make it easier to PUG with

the drawbacks,

you cant kill one target, you can kill a awhole team but if say you wanted to kill a relic runner, probably going to be difficult.

But i encourage you to try a degen build these days and share your recent exploits with a degen build in hall of heroes lately.

After playing a degen build, and discovering that everywar and their mother is wearing a helm that cuts hex time in half, it became rather more annoying than effective.

You haven't played gvg much have you?

They definitely work but anti-warrior hexes are not very good in gvg since all the good players have hex helms, whereas in tombs all the scrubs don't and get rocked by shadow of fear etc.

People have always been using degen builds, usually mixed with some edenial, they've just been in the background and it's not like they're something innovative or revolutionary like you're saying.

If they are wearing the helm which cuts hex times by half use it to your advantage.

e.g

Wastrel's Worry
Hex Spell. After 3 seconds, target foe takes (Min: 8 - Max: 64) damage. Wastrel's Worry ends prematurely if that foe uses a skill.

It now only lasts 1.5 seconds and makes this spell very effective.

Almost as effective as the warriors ability to change helmets untill the mesmer with Wastrels is dead.

True, but what do you want to bet that most warriors will shrug it off and ignore it, or even better consider the risk of a full length faintheartedness or like spell, and decide they're better off without and hope that a monk will heal them if things get out of hand. If it can force the opponent to make that trade off, Wastrel's maybe just the thing to speed up unprepared team's demise.

*AHEM*

I brought this up in HEROES ASCENT catagory for a reason...

there are not a substantial number of people with anti hex helms in HoH

I was trying to encrouage people to play something other than IWAY because similarly to IWAY degen can be easy to play when it is all set up and people know what to do

but thank you luddendorf for stupidly and inncorrectly assuming i don't GVG much, wild and baseless assumptions are always, ALWAYS, a breat of fresh air
