Default Considering PVP play

I've been playing exclusively PVE since the release day of the game. I enjoy PVE still, but I'm considering adding in some PVP gameplay as well. I just have a few questions:

1. I dont use TS or Vent, will it be a problem for me to find a team?

2. Is there a set pattern for killing which opponent 1st, 2nd, etc, or can I simply use the beloved "T" key to attack the called target and do fine?

3. I have no rank at all, will any groups take a player with no PVP rank?

Just so that we're on the same page, I am not a new player. I have lots of experience leading groups in all the PVE maps in the game, and I dont have a problem following directions when I'm not leading a team. I just dont know anything about the PVP community. Any input would be appreciated.

First, go to the practice areas outside of Temple of Balthazar. Then talk to the Master of Paths and try the training missions where you fight AI "players". You'll get used to the basic game types and the flow of PvP arena matches.

Then I'd start with random and team arenas. Rank and TS/Vent are rarely important there. Once you get the hang of things, you can move up to Hero's Ascent, but Rank may be an issue with joining some groups.

There is no set pattern on who to attack first. Usually monks will be targetted first, often mesmers or necros will. It just depends. Usually if someone calls a target, just hit T and follow along, unless you are designed to target a particular class (like caster or warrior shutdown), in which case you do what you do best to help the team.

I think if you give it a chance, you'll enjoy PvP. It can be much more challenging playing against real players with their own builds than monsters with set builds that have exploitable AI. Be warned, though, that you will probably die/lose a lot until you get the hang of it. A lot of PvE players I know that tried PvP quit after two games, saying "F**K this, it's too hard!". I myself started playing PvE only and lost a lot, but I was hooked from the first, so I kept playing and now I'm pretty decent at it.

TS and Vent are free downloads, and there's really no reason not to have them. I don't even have a mic, but I still use one or the other in every 8 v 8 group I join. I remember one group where everyone was on TS except one ele- we'd just been eoe'd down by IWAY, and the ele was the only one alive. Everyone on TS was shouting don't rez the monks, rez chain rez chain- and he rezzes a monk (me, in fact, with no rez of any kind on my bar). What could have been turned around into a win was lost, just because the team couldn't communicate with him.

Who targets who in a 8 v 8 is extremely dynamic, depending on what you're running and who you're facing. There's no set order that will apply to all builds, all the time. If you don't understand what's going on around you, just follow calls. This is the sort of thing that you only really learn through experience.

Ignore rank for a while, it's more important to be a solid player. Random arena is a good place to get your bearings, but will not teach you much about any other form of pvp in the game- after all, it's the only place where you have no idea who your team is til you get them. This means you have to play more self sufficient characters...and always carry a rez sig.
Team Arena is a better place to spend time, if you're trying to learn the game.
Observer mode is probably the best way to learn positioning, watch GvGs. Stick to one player, and take note of where they are in relation to the enemy team and their own team. The best defense is being too far away to be hit, while still being where you need to be to help your team. The best offense is hitting those targets who cannot be helped by their team. Movement is super important in pvp.

Finally, don't overspecialize. Learn to play anything- it's easier to beat something you know how to play, and it makes it a hell of a lot easier to get a group when you're not just a one trick pony.

Good luck! My IGN is Reap the Wind, if you'd like to ask any more questions.

most of PUG will look in you the following requirement with following priority

1) vent / ts , mostly all group require that , if you dont have it probably they will left you out

2) rank,

3) your ability to adapt in the team and change your setup(this mean is a lot better if you have a pvp char)

abount rank you probably cant do nothing now ...

most groups today are r3+, only guild groups and spiking group require vent/ts (or maybe another build)

Nope, most teams don't even know what TS or Vent is. I've only seen People from the same Guild use it just to make everything more efficient.

Depends on whose the caller. If you are, then you gota press Ctrl+Left Click(Default) to call a certain target. If your not, then just press T

Rank is almost the same as 15k or Fow armor. It's just a prove of how long you've been playing the game. But most people won't ask you to show it, they just ask, and you could just lie to them and say " Yep, im R3". The quickest way of earning fame is by doing Iway. Since your new in PvP, I would reconmend you do a search on that topic.

Anyways, enjoy PvP .

like others have said play random then team arena if you like someone your playing with ask to friends list each other( this will make the rank issue none existent later on in HA) if your not already in a guild join one with some like minded people, if your in a guild that is strictly pve and you don't want to leave focus allot of attention on your friends list. i know i've had way more success with my rank 1-5 friends than i ever did with even a rank 9 PUG

Ranked groups normally ask for the emote.

1. Yes, if you want to be competitive at all, you need these. Mic is nice to have, but in the beginning you can make it without one.

2. Depends what you are playing, if you have a precise strategy for this etc. But normally following the called target is fine if you're a dmg dealer.

3. Well, easiest way to get some fame is to IWAY it, but this is considered stupid, gay, noob and it ruins it for everyone else. Forming your own unranked PUG is a more respectable way of getting fame, but you'll need a decent team build and without a mic you can't really lead as well.

I wouldn't try forming an unranked PUG as someone new to HA. You run a very good chance of spending an hour and a half getting the right 8 class combos (with people leaving periodically from impatience), going into the tombs, getting pounded into the dirt by IWAY...and losing half your team to ragequit. Rinse and repeat, if you've got the patience.
