Default Holding Build

Not sure if anyone noticed a group holding halls this evening but they held for about 2 or 3 hours during prime time.

This was a build that consisted of 6 Monks (not smiting), 1 heal party ele and 1 Fertile/Symbosis spammer (natures renewal/eoe hunter). It seemed to offer no offence whatsoever and they just held and held.

The questions are surely, how did they get to and win HOH without any dmg output and what exactly was this build?

hmmm...couple of possibilities I can think of off the top of my head.

I'm assuming they were monk primaries.

Firstly - they could have been running a 6 man spike as mo/me, mo/n, mo/e.
Would be enough spike power there.

Secondly - they could have just timed a halls skip, and capped the alter after the holding teams ghost died.

Well thats true, there were 6 monks all with ele secondarys but they weren't dishing out any damage. I wonder if they had an obsidian flame or something tucked away in their skill bar.

They basically just kited around making sure the ghost was almost invincible and ensured the ranger was able to spam his fertile/symbosis.

Yeah more offensive holding builds would be 3 healers, 1 e/mo heal party spammer, 1 shut down mesmer, and 3 of whatever.

I faced a team like this that had 5 monk primary obsidian spikers, one air spiker, one spirit spammer, and one infuser. I'm guessing it's a similar concept.

If it was Noble Savage's team, it was 6x Mo/E, 1x E/Mo, and 1x R/ ??, the monks spiking with Obsidian flame.

Too bad the only interrupt that build has is probably a savage shot.

These holding builds are becoming a bit ridiculous now, especially with that insidious blood spike going about.

I just make sure we have plenty of interrupts spread around so we don't lose to these types of groups on the journey.

But getting them off the alter is tough, and you really need the 3rd side to actually help you out - which as we know, is a 50% chance of being dumb iway.
