it's the 'noobs' that gave the unranked players a bad name. the problem is that there are more idiots out there than good people willing to learn.

to me 'noob' is a player that has played this game for a while yet he didn't adapt or learn anything. the 'noob' is the typical antisocial player that does not cooperate and has the D2 mentallity that he is the SOLO HERO pwning everything. since there many of those around, their behaviour is just out there and decent players get put in the same boat with them. don't hate the rank, hate the 'noob'.

for argument's sake, if the rank gets resetted, the same thing will happen all over again at a faster pace. the ex-ranked players will just play with their ex-ranked guildies or friends. the unranked mass will still have the same problems they're facing today.

look at the guild rank reset. notice that most of the old good ranking guilds are still maintaining a good rank after the reset and the bad guilds still suck. and plz stop with the /signed unless u have some believable arguments for ur opinions. it's the ppl that yell nerf this and that or /sign shit like this without thinking in perspective that bitch and complain if Anet changes anything.

*wishes Anet could improve the AI of pugs*

Or perhaps they can make it so only rank 0-3 players can play other 0-3 ranked players...a simple system is all they needs

If rank reset i might as well quit the game, getting R9 wasnt too hard but there are too many hours logged on to just one day not have any fame agian, and loosing fame when when you loose wouldnt be fair to most people, i wouldnt mind it but when people are low ranked like 6 and below its not logical because there are groups out there like the gay MATH guild and all the other gay IWAY's, or actualy good people who have played more then you making you do nothing but loose fame.

first this will not be helping new players at all with finding pugs, this will alienate unranked-rank 5 players even further. I seen plenty of high ranked players put together a pug with no rank requirment how many people are going to do that now when they have something to lose? Even if you give the double fame if you have 2 unranked players in your party those are 2 people that havent seen the maps and probably don't know what to do. Second if rank means nothing as many people like to yell in HA 20 times an hour why does this sugestion put it on such a high pedesital? Do people actually believe players are going to test new builds in HA now that they gonna lose something? Unless you guys come from some amazing guild that always gets builds right the first time i don't see this happening. My guild makes a build, we lose go again and lose, see what is wrong tweak and try again. With this i would be bumped down to rank 3 in no time.

Also a reward for winning halls? Last time i won halls a chest opened up and i got some good stuff came out for people. Halls has it's own rewards and with chapter 2 coming up I can see the price of sigils going up.

and if it means anything i'm R5 with 900 fame should hit R6 sometime this week (i hope) im not high rank and won't be r9 anytime soon i'm just someone that has gone did tombs found players that i can play with, join awful and great pugs, been called a noob a ridiculous amount of times all to get were i am in my current rank. If i can go through all that then new players can to

I think it would be way too unfair on the people that have earnt and deserve there rank to have it reset. However I for one will not bother parting with my hard earnt cash if it remains the same. Plus for longetivity of the game you need something to aim for. As it is currently it will only get worse imgine how hard it will be for a new comer in 12 months time.

So here are some possible suggestions i thought up.

Rank from 0-3 remains the same you gain rank for wins and cannot lose it. Once you reach rank 3 however you lose 1 fame point for each loss. Making it harder to get to rank 6 and above. (I have seen too many arguments from people stating that rank means experience not skill.) This should then make rank 3 a measure of exp and rank 6 a better measure of skill. (you can still farm fame a little bit as long as you win twice for each loss. Thus netting 2 fame but if you can win twice each time u enter then u deserve some fame.)

There also needs to be rewards for winning and holding halls. So why not make it that if you win halls for the next 24 hours you are unable to lose fame. Quite the incentive to win for the fame farmers among us and will give people the freedom to experiment and try new builds without being punished. For holding halls you could just get a huge chunk of fame ??

This still leaves people under rank 3 out in the cold. To counter this you need to give higher ranked more skillful players incentive to play with the new comers. Maybe give rank 6 and beyond players double fame for winning matches with at least 2 unranked players in there group. Imagine how much more welcoming it would be for an unranked player to come to Heroes ascent and see "rank 9 group looking for 2 unranked players with ts/venty to finish group."

You may think my ideas are good or bad. So feel free to flame them if u wish i have a thick skin.
I think this will be even worse for HoH or PuG.
Why? I've fought hard and long for my 705 fame i dont want to lose it cuz of some PUG. I don't know if there any other players whit the same attitude as me. But i will respond like this:
1. Friend Only Groups
2. Guild Group only
3. NO MORE PUGS FOR ME
for point 3 i see so many battles lost now cuz 1 screws up then we miss damage or a lot of healing because they arent experienced enough.

I'm with JR on this.

This would cap 95% of the IWAY teams in Tombs at rank 3. And, of course, bring those elitist right-wingers down to earth and out of their bubble of 'awesomeness' *rolls eyes* (like this ) -->

I never suggested fame should be reset i dont think it can possibly be taken away now as people have worked long and hard for it. Im just wondering how anet plan to attract new players to the game and keep them in the game when they will find it near impossible to find a decent group that can notch up a few wins.

Grinding to rank3 ? Isnt guild wars supposed to be against this behaviour.

As for losing fame you are only ever going to lose fame if you lose your first fight. If you win your first and lose your second you will gain one from th ewin then lose one for the loss. Overall result same amount of fame as you started with.

They cannot possibly make a level for unranked players as you learn from playing against and losing to better players not by beating worse teams.

I never really liked my idea much just thought id throw it in there to see how other people thought about the current grouping system. The people at anet are a lot smarter than me anyway im sure they will think of something.

Stupid question maybe.

Chapter 2 will be a standalone game. Do you have to fill in your current account to activate chapter 2 when bought in the store? Or do you get a new account? If so, what happens with your current rank? Or will your new account be linked to the account from chapter 1 transfering the info from chapter 1 into chapter 2?

I dont' think rank mean nothing, I don't want rank reseted, but I've already beated (and massacred too) rank9+ team and 100- guild build (running Their usual build).
I'm rank 4, I've do it with half PUG half friends, rank it's not all, my rank means only that I don't like play HoH (I play there ONLY when a friend ask me) I just play GvG.

People must learn that the better way to have a good group it's talk before starting to play, you always understand if that guy will listen or not (ask skill, discuss them, make strategy, ...), and not just ask the the rank.

This proposal i really dont agree because it will eliminate the good guilds to try out new builds and new strategies for heroes ascent because of the fear of losing fame. Another thing is that fame loss is quite ridiculous in my opinion because there are so many ganks that happens in courtyard and hall of heroes. Not only do you get gank, but you also get penalize and get fame reduction. This kind of changing in the ranking system will only result into more people quitting the game. And, I doubt Arenanet is gonna do that kind of change. If I remember correctly, didnt they say they are gonna make finding groups for heroes ascent a lot easier. /notsigned :P

if ppl do lose rank when they lose then the low ranks have even less chance of playing with ranked players.

o something else that came up why that idea sucks is:
1. When parents force someone to stop
2. err no 7 ive seen a lot of matches end in a loss cuz someone dropped and we either lost atk power or healing.

This would be really unfair cuz you couldnt do anything cuz some1 dropped.

well, i am "new" to guild wars.
i played pve nearly all the time(~320 hours)

at this pvp-factions-weekend, i tried pvp and ha first time.
i created a random party for ha, and we won our first battle.
that was how i gained my first fame point.
i wanted to have more of them and searched for a group...
and searched...
and searched...
and finally gave up...

i think it is really hard for a newbie (or better: non-ranked)
to find a group, even if he might be better than some high-ranked people...

and how can this newbie grow up in rank?
no rank-> no group->no rank-> no group...

i think there should be changed something, to make it easier for newbies to find a good team and maybe guild to play with...

Just find a PvP guild, that's the only good advice I know to give to newbs at pvp. Just go to the Guild thread, it's at the very bottom, put maybe you will be recruited.

The idea of a dynamic rank ladder is a great one, but the OP's method doesn't work so well. The goal is for people to eventually end up where their skill puts them with more skilled players higher.

Currently the more you win, the more fame you get per win. I was a little unclear as to whether the OP intended this to stay the same, or to have a flat 1-fame-per-win system. But here's how it plays out either way:
Wins.....Current Fame.....OP Fame 1....OP Fame 2
0...................0................-1................-1
1...................1.................0........... ......0
2...................3.................1........... ......2
3...................6.................2........... ......5
4...................10................3........... .....9
5...................16................4........... .....15
6...................24................5........... .....24
...
(I'm assuming those are wins followed by a loss so add 1 to the last columns if you quit between rounds)
You can see you'd get the same result by just changing the fame rewards schedule. The only people it would truly affect are those who routinely lose the first round.

For a true ladder you'd need the penalties for losing early to balance with the rewards for winning a lot. Then you'd have Rank based on percentiles instead of on absolute fame score (for instance the top 10% of players would be Rank 10, the next 10% would be Rank 9, etc). But you'd also want to increase the rewards/penalties for winning/losing to teams which were widely different from your team's average skill. Something similar the current Guild Ladder only give each team member an individual score.

I agree that a change would be nice and that Rank ought to mean something more related to "player skill" and less related to "time logged". But given that a true ladder would be such a complete re-tooling of the current Rank system and that a large number people would just piss their panties if ANet wiped the current system, you'd pretty much have to add the ladder system along side the current one. Eventually people would realize that a ladder standing means way more than a glowing wolf/tiger/vin diesel.

I have an idea.. They could just not have rank at all! That would solve everyones problems. If Arena-Net would have never had rank, then everybody could play with each other without arguing about how much fame they have.

Yes, I know this would make some people angry because of all they have 'worked' for, (is this really work?) but really rank doesn't matter. My guild which is in the top 100 right now doesn't require some certain rank for you to join, as long as you are experienced. Rank doesn't mean you are good - it only means you play in Heroe's Ascent alot.

as far as i know:

1. If you link ur Factions game to your current accnt (Prophecies), you will have your current rank/fame/faction points/characters/items and 1 additional char slot in chapter 2. It will be like an upgrade to your current accnt.

2. If you install Factions as a standalone game, you will have NO rank/fame/faction points/characters/items from ur current accnt. it will be just an empty account with 5 (they confirmed an additional slot) empty char slots. You will have nothing on it from your old accnt.

so it's ur choice to link Factions to ur current accnt or not. i suggest you upgrade ur current accnt if you already have good rank/chars/items on it.

as for the rank system, it's good as it is. i don't understand ppl that still complain about it. i'm not gonna post another long comment on it and this will be my last piece of advice on rank.

if ur UNRANKED, just go to Heros Ascent with GUILDIES. stop trying to make pug teams, u'll get nowere.
if your guild does not pvp or does not do Heros Ascent, guess what? CHANGE ur damn guild! there are plenty of unranked PVP only guilds.

Though from what I know of regarding faction and its dilution of meaning, due to the way the metagame has evolved, and simply that time and grinding plays a huge factor in being able to earn a lot, and I understand the merits of this suggestion...

I must also warn of a possible shift of HA builds if people feared the loss of rank/fame; Defence.

With the new Ritualist spirits having very useful defensive effects, teams may opt to pack defence heavy and go for attrition/pressure victories.
Fertile Season, Union, Shelter, Displacement, protective/healing weapons and of course, classical monk skills.
Fortification could become very appealing to teams as it is.

Though, trying to predict the way the metagame would evolve, short of definite broken skills, is like trying to figure out where a handful of sand will scatter when thrown into the air.
