Please. Spec'ing SR to 9 or 10 is common for the energy bonuses alone. Debate the elite itself all you wish, but don't pretend that three strong attribute lines aren't viable if they include Soul Reaping.

In HA maybe, there's certainly enough death going on there. Certainly in PvE as well. In GvG? The breakpoint for me to put 9-10 into soul reaping would have to be on average one death every 30s. That's a pip of regen, not that much. If you have a build that can reliably put out one death every 30s then why aren't you top of the ladder?

With 15 second recharge it seems this skill can be spammed with high enough Soul Reaping. However to be able to spam it in the first place you'd need to put lots of points into Soul Reaping which, in itself could prove to be a bad thing. On the plus side however, I can't wait to use this on interrupt rangers.

I don't think we can rule out the possibility of Soul Reaping becoming a valid attribute for something other than energy as well. I know there's some Faction skill lists out there (one in this thread), but in total I wonder how many skills are going to be present in the Soul Reaping attribute line.

Even if that's the only one I can still see a Blood Spiker, or Anti-War Necro bringing it along. You can very easily spec between Blood, Curses, and Soul Reaping and still get your -3 health degen hexes, or go complete Blood and Soul Reaping and work as a blood spiker.

The energy issue would be there, but it would be worth it in my opinion if by casting it you saved an otherwise doomed teamate from death. I guess only time will tell. Because we really can't know it's impact or the impact Factions has on Warriors in general if we don't know what other skills warrior gets and what counters they may have. (Such as the signet that adds +dmg for a certain number of hits, which could easily help in boosting Warrior damage to get by the skill)

It's not only about your invented premise for having that amount of Soul Reaping... if you have two strong lines supporting most of your chosen skills (say Death and Blood), you can put the rest in SR for its bonus.

Spirits die... and there will be more in Factions. Pets die. Minions die. NPCs like archers die. And, yes sometimes actual players die. Whenever this happens on either side, you get energy. Nothing amazing, but it helps considering you aren't forced to use a skill slot for +mana.

Edit... just watched two matches in observer mode. R44 and R27 teams had a Necro or two. Both had exactly 9 Soul Reaping based on the energy bonus numbers that popped up when something died. Like I said, its useful.

Soul Reaping isn't really useful as base energy management because it's not reliable. You can't be absolutely sure that you're going to get that energy, so your build needs to be able to do okay without it.

Soul Reaping is quite useful as secondary energy management. If your build is such that you have enough energy to use your skills whenever they're charged then it's not that great, but if you're running the sort of build where you want to spam fast-recharge high-cost skills every single time they're available, Soul Reaping can pwn face as an extra boost.

Yep, useful for the energy bonus as I originally said.
