Are YOU serious? Are we playing the same game here?? have a ranger throw a few distracting shots on obsidian spikes and that wil hurt them for a while. usualy without everyone spiking that build is worthless.

Umm why is your infuser getting spiked? I mean it's not like he has to be standing beside who he is healing.

have the infuser stand back, as far back as possible and if they have to push through you to get to him they are going to get punished as they move.

Flame sentinels are not THAT tough, they are a pain if you are not equipped to deal with them tho

Most teams are able to handle spike teams, either a ranger with distracting or a mesmer with Cry of Fustration. And with enough pressure you should be forcing the necros into a heal or die scenario and then their spike relaly goes down the drain.

you guys are just looking at this all wrong. You are trying to argue against facts. So please read this and understand, then form your opinions, with full knowledge of the facts.

FACT:Guild the Zaishen runs a 7 Necro blood spike and a E/mo runner, their guild hall is the fire island
FACT: Zaishen(Rnub) is currently ranked 28th in the world (page 2) They are 35-5. That is the LOWEST ammount of wins on that page of the ladder and the second lowest losses.
FACT: I have personally watched them beat igi ranked 8 at the time and evo ranked in the 30's at the time, both on the fire map(both under 10 minutes but it doesnt matter)

on their map they win against higher ranked guilds, some very high ranked guilds. They are playing the best and beating them on fire island. These facts are undeniable so all this nonsense about intterupts and infusing is just that nonsense. There is VERY little that can be done to deal with them. They have gone against infusers and they have gone against intterupts and are winning.

Now im not here to talk up the zaishen i'm just giving you an example of how a good spike can be very nearly unbeatable at the fire island guild hall. They may get pwned in the face at every other guild hall but on fire island there is very little you can do.

You're being stupid.

Tons of teams ran spike many months ago and many were on the fire map. Guess what: the best teams ran anti-spike and owned their faces. The fact is nobody good is going to run a lot of anti-spike d because the good teams are all running warriors and mesmers and those teams and builds are the threat in the playoffs, not some mediocre players running spike that will just get specced against and raped (EP got #2 with almost purely spike and guess what they got owned by iQ since iQ specced against them).

If you want a more recent example I saw iQ beating the zaishen on the fire map a couple days ago by going through the flame sentinels and iQ is playing godawful lately compared to their performance a couple months ago.

iQ isnt playing god awful the game got WAY more competitive and thier rank isnt as high as it used to be. But a lot of top teams are runing forms of spike, reno is doing some adrenaline spiking, rifts fast air spike, iGi does a partial ranger partial adrenaline spike. and these teams arent a joke and everyone knows what they are running.

The people that are being stupid are the poeple that say YOU JUST INFUSE IT. BRING A DISTRACTING SHOt AND YOU WONT DIE FROM THEIR SPIKE. JSUT KILL SENTINELS AND WIN. its way easier said than done. And this is evident by the fact that zaishen is doing well on the ladder.

then in the playoffs when people know the matchups the guilds get to play the game of well they could be spike so we go anti spike but they know we will do that so we go ant-anti-anti spike but they know we know they know......blah blah blah

spik teams in the playoffs can have a huge advantage in the psycholoigical pre match planning war.

I've seen two types of "balanced" builds succeed against good spikes on the fire map.

Massive interrupt/damage builds that jump on the spikers and just hope to god they have a good infuser + GREAT interrupters. Of course this has a little bit of a problem against necro spike and certain types of defensive minded mixed spike. If they can survive long enough to get off a few success spikes (your infuser/interrupters miss one) you are in trouble.

Splitting seems to be the tactic of choice for higher end guilds. However, it takes a lot of skill to split properly and I've only seen a few guilds do it properly. Way too many split groups are too rash and get way too close to the spike group... forgetting that they usually have speed boosts + snares. Also you have to pick the right type of split to pull off against that certain team. If you just use 1-2 guys to try the old base gank... a decent flag runner should be able to hold you off. 3~ guys.. a monk and the flag runner can hold you off while the spikers finish you at your base.

If you are going to split at all vs a spike... make up your mind at the beginning.. especially on the fire map. At any time, you will want to either be threatening their base or holding the flag stand. If they attack your defensive/flagging group your base ganking group better be causing them enough panic to get the heck back. If they are going after your offensive group.. make sure those guys can run away in time and you cap the flag stand.

Either way... its harder said than done. The REAL top 20 seem to pulling it off consistently (depends on map too) while everyone else is having only a decent success rate it seems.

If you know your facing a spike team (which generally is the case on the fire map anyhow), you can start the game off with your whole team killing the first sentinel before you start going towards the flag. This way you can easily send 2-3 people to their base. You naturally do need prot spirit though

Most better spikes tend to push right into your base when you do this, but you can just turtle at your lord until they start sending people back, which they will be forced to do...

The Blood spike is bit noobish and very easy to infuse/interrupt, but observe some games of Soldiers Of Thunderstorm, their flawless ranger spike is hard/impossible to infuse. Also Scarled Coloures Vampire is running decent pressure with very high damage rb-spike build in. It is hell-like thing to face. I faced them 4th time in gvg, knew what was coming and got 3 first spikes infused, we splitted and what they did??? send 1 monk to lord LOL. Then when they spotted me using infuse, they just run trought my whole team and spiekd me (like 4 times), then they spiked my fleeing team. After our resurrect i found myself on res point and PP on me , soon after it came the end of story.
