Default Hammer Warrior - Backbreaker or Earthshaker?

I've been observing the tournament, and Backbreaker is everywhere. I think that Earthshaker has some potential, though (lower cost, all foes knocked down instead of one). Which do you use, and why?

Well that thing is earthshaker doesn't add damage to the spikes. And I believe it knocks down for less time.

Backbreaker = 4s KD. Stoneskin gaunts don't affect the knockdown length of knockdowns 3s or longer.

None of the above. I use Dev. Hammer with the gauntlets. Backbreaker just takes forever to charge. I know it's only 3 strikes of adrenaline, but it always seems like more to me. Plus, weakness and availability of combo with heavy blow... def. Dev. Hammer.

Most people who use dev combo it with Hammer Bash anyway. Relying on weakness is weak (giggle), and if you manage to kill someone with just Dev-crushing, what do you do?

I use backbreaker, mainly because hammer warrior's bars are so full as it is, what with the nessisary Rush, healsig/Endure, Frenzy, Crushing Blow, ressig. And imo Irresisable Blow is pretty much a must have hammer skill. That's 7 slots with backbreake. If I take it,there isn't need for a second KD, so that slot is freed up for a utility skill like sheilds up, plauge touch, or bulls strike.

I'm a big fan of Backbreaker, but Earthshaker can be worked into a team build. If you want to see a good example go watch Bloodlight Eyes on EviL in game 1 against Char while it is still posted. He uses it well in conjunction with the rest of the team.

I have been using backbreaker for a long time now, and never liked dev hammer (my last hammer elite that I unlock).

Earth Shaker is more for your team mate than yourself, get a build going and this would rock.

Yup, frankly the main decision is devastating (frequent KD power) or backbreaker (one second longer duration and extra damage) to me. If you decide to go the dev hammer route, then there can be a choice whether you want dev. or are willing to spend an extra hit to build up earthshaker for the possibility for a few extra AoE KDs.

I think it depends largely on your build. For example I tend to use Backbreaker in builds that focus very heavily on spike damage; killing a target before it has the chance to get back up. In more of a pressure/attrition based build I would probably use Dev/Earthshaker.

Our guild uses Backbreaker for Adrenaline + Orb spikes. I've seen The Last Pride [EvIL] use Earthshaker well. They don't seem to spike though...or maybe it's just me. Devastating in a GvG isn't that good. There is always the chance of condition removal. Also, like DieInBasra said, I've had many times where I killed and still had Heavy Blow on my bar. After that I changed to Backbreaker and Hammer Bash, with Crushing Blow in between (Deep Wound FTW).

Devastating hammer is perfectly fine in GvG. You just have to know why you're using it. The "enemy suffers from weakness" clause might as well not even be there, the skill is for using frequent 3 second knockdowns followed by crushing blows, that also can be chained to hammer bash if you have room on your bar.

In Guild battles, it would be more logical, IMO, to take backbreaker. Reasons? Of course:

-Many teams are packing a 2-monk backline. Whats worse, these are likely 2 boon-prots, which means they are already stressed out. The power of putting half of their real healing power on his/her back for 4 whole seconds shouldn't be ignored.
-There is no better snare that I can think of (undeniable pwnge of flag runners).
-Slight damage enhancement.
-It is unconditional and requires no subsequent chain to be justified.

And, in my experience, that 10 adrenaline comes back faster than you would think.

I say Backbreaker. The charge time isn't that bad, and a caster you hit with it never gets back up if you're good.

Earthshaker seems very enticing though, outside 4v4. 1 adrenaline more than Devastating but can potentially KD more than 1 person. And as already said, Devastating's weakness bonus is quite insignificant.

So I would pick either Backbreaker or Earthshaker depending on my mood

In a series of words: No, absolutely not, what kind of nonsense is that?

I have heard that female warriors get a substantial attack bonus once a month, resulting in a constant spamming of Frenzy and "Fear Me!" I would suggest staying away from a female warrior when you see this happening. If she stops attacking to ask you questions, and I mean anything, dodge the answer as if your life depended on it.

actually, female warriors look a bit screwey with a hammer. the attacks themselves go through just as quickly and just as smoothly as with a male warrior, but the animations don't coincide properly

This is the same with female rangers with a hammer, i.e. bunny thumpers. The animations do not match up with the actual attack, so it can mess up your chain if you are doing a KD attack chain. It gets pretty annoying, and is the main reason I made a male PvE warrior.
