Default Qualities you Look for In a Member/Recruit?

Might be a little bit off topic, but I was discussing this with a few friends and this is what we came up with. I'm assuming a competitive PvP Guild. I mean things aside from being a good <insert class>. Probably a lot more we missed.

(Remember I'm referring to a member and not an officer/leader. The list for that is quite different)

Qualities to look for:

1. Plays with The Guild When Asked
2. Active
3. Doesn't Rage Quit - Leave After One Run/Game
4. Makes Good Decisions on the Fly (You should know what I mean. In every game... unexpected things happen. Some players panic and have to be told what to do... some can naturally adapt)
5. Open to Criticism + Admits His/Her Mistakes
6. No Out of Control Ego - These Guys Destroy the Guild Reputation Fast (Quite A Few Famous Ones Out There)
7. Not a Trash Talker - See Above
8. Good Internet Connection - Kinda Obvious.. but.. some people forget this
9. No Issues with Family/Friends Interfering During Matches - See Above
10. Friendly and Communicative on Vent
11. Capable of Learning - Some players keep making same mistakes... again... and again... and again... and again... I mean even lab rats.....
12. Loyalty to Guild

Of course every guild needs the one "SuPAH FRIENDLEH PveEE nOublet" who doesn't even PvP much but can run everywhere, can pricecheck anything, and knows how to farm everything. These guys rock! Get one today! Love em.

And I don't care what you say... Soul Wedding is the perfect Guild member. Who cares if I can't even communicate with him. Even if he didn't have any of the qualities listed above, he is still PERFECTION. ABSOLUTE PERFECTION! HE IS BETTER, FASTER, STRONGER, AND BETTER LOOKING THAN YOU! HE DOESN'T EVEN PLAY WARRIOR AND YET HE IS STILL A BETTER WARRIOR THAN YOU ARE!

heh. j/k. Hell of a monk though.

Soul Wedding fetish pl0x? Heh.

But anyways I don't think it's so much as being capable of learning as a want to learn. You know, how some players actually ask questions and research stuff because they actually want to learn to be better, rather than having to be watched and told what they are doing wrong.

I think flexibility is a big thing too. I mean if someone can play a good blood spiker that's all well and dandy but he needs to be able to play other things too, because there's just not going to be a blood spiker in every build.

ideal people are best described by dispositions or virtues(virtues doesnt really apply here)

1. wants to compete at a high level (this entails being active, wanting to learn, a deep and growing knowledge of the game..etc...)

2. Knows how to communicate (in game on vent, such as when to talk and when to shut up, how to take criticism and how to give it, when to instruct and lead when to be uinstructed and follow)

3. reliable (good connection, no parent spikes, no raging, knows how to play a build)

4.Fit in with guild (def right vindexus)

also loyalty to guild is a stupid thing IMO. More often than not people will limit themselves by playing with stupid players cuz "its their guild" your loyalty should be to your friends and you having fun, its a game

I am rank 0. i have never gone any further then past the first npc's. rank means jack to me.
what i look for:
1)MATURITY. <--i hate whiners
2)willingness to learn. if one of us gives you advice, take it and say thankyou. dont call yourself l337 and uber. i dont care.
3)activeness. nothing like a bunch of inactives to kill a guild
4)helpful, friendly. its the base of my guild. on the other hand, i discourage handouts. helping people is ok, even runs. but giving someone gold and holding their hand is not a way to become a self-sufficient person.
5)having a monk is a huge plus to us all

The one thing I want when I recruit or get recruited (currently looking for a guild..) is a guild that types proper english.

Caps Lock and one too many acronym gets me running away screaming (or just using the lovely KICK option )

Of course, maturety is important. I do not want people begging or whining in my guild.
Being helpful is of couse important.. but being active is more important.
Depending on the guild I'm in, I do or do not want the guild to grow large. I have been in a guild that kicked those absent for a week and a guild that kicked those absent for a month..
A reliable connection is important if I'm going to play with that person, and why would I not want to play with a guildie? I would not kick a person for his/her connection right away though.

For those without great knowledge and experience, I want them to be willing and able to learn. - I can teach a lot.

If i was drawing up a recruiting thread I would look for

1) mature, calm, patient attitude. Team player
2) Good communicator, not shy over voice, headset required
3) experienced GvG player that had played alot in the top half of the ladder and knew and understood maps, field tactics and different kinds of builds.
4) Full prophesies unlocks and an intention to quickly unlock factions
5) Active during our core hours pretty much every day
6) Able to play a range of builds as required

Such people looking for guilds are sadly pretty rare :/ Generally when you are publically recruiting, unless you are a top 20 side, you have to recruit and then train arena monkeys, which is a time consuming process. or HA monkeys which while less time consuming is often more difficult and frustrating as such players often think they know it all

In general terms I would recommend recruiting people that have guested for you in the past rather than openly recruiting. In this way you can bring in people that know and understand your team and the tactics you typically employ which makes life alot easier, and you know first hand whether or not they are the kind of player you want. For me, open recruitment is a last resort when everyone's friends list has been exhausted of potential recruits

1) Calm demeanor <--#1 without a doubt. No Rage Allowed means exactly that.
2) Reasonably competent player who can listen and learn as well as pinpoint areas of need, both for himself and other players on the team.
3) Vocal. We may not rage, but I don't want players who "suffer in silence". I can't help resolve issues unless I know they are issues.
4) Dedication. We schedule our time for GvG due to the fact that we have real lives outside GW. When we log on, I want all 8 of my players present and ready to play the build we've decided to run for the night. We have forums for a reason. Get your build and make it before it's time to GvG.
5) Stable machine with a solid, high-speed internet connection. You can't climb very far or very fast if you play 50% of your matches with 7 players because of err7.
