You're right. Inspired Hex and Drain Enchantment are very occasional in TA/RA, and it's quite common to face a team without Hexes or Enchantments.

Guess I'll switch to Holy Veil for TA/RA, since it heals too, it's very effective.

Too bad Power Drain is so hard to run. If it wasn't, it'd be enough for your entire Energy Management, making it possible to run an Elite skill of your choice. Might try to run this again, just to see how it turns out ^^

What an incredibly well thought out post...

Though seriously, Energy drain has many negatives to it as to why it isn't as good as Recall in certain situations.

Off the top of my head

You can't maintain lines with it - to use it, you have to get in range of an enemy character, which can mean a few things - you're extremely vulnerable to a warrior spike, you're in range of enemy mesmers to just have that energy you got drained again.

The target you drain may be low on energy, in which case your energy management is poor.

Next of all the amount of energy per second you get with Drain does not compare to that of Mantra of Recall...

The only flaws I really see with Recall is that it's interrupt bait, then again, so is energy drain. and second of all, Domination mesmers can really hurt you by draining it at unwanted times. giving you 40'ish seconds without any energy gain.

.. alright maybe this is not the case in RA/TA where lines are next to non-existant... but I feel in gvg you could be punished if you aren't careful with your use of edrain - i personaly run recall... so can't say first hand - but I know from playing warrior that monks using energy drain make nice targets

Well my guild has been in the top 200 for the last 40 games and I have been trying out various combinations of skills between two monks.

The way I see it is top guilds will punish you for getting out of position to use energy drain. Dont drain hammer warriors bacuase you dont always get your energy.

Mantra of recall has excellent synergy with Contemplation of Purity even though it does have a 10 sec recharge now.

I dont recomend energy drain.

Of course if the team you are fighting doesnt spot monks out of position then go energy drain but as you and your guild get better along with the opposition go mantra of recall.

i have a question about MoR.
uhm sometimes when garboks do recharge MoR faster (40%) do you cast it right away, so u have like 2 MoR's on you? Or does it not stack..and you wait for MoR to give the energy then cast again

No it is better to cop off the mor and recast. You Only gain slightly by doing this but sometimes you can gain quite a lot = heal/clean youself etc...

If you cast Mantra of recall while Mantra is still active Mantra didnt end and You do not get the energy.

Hope this helps.

CoP'ing MoR in Boon Prot is a waste, just don't take the recharge items (unless you'd be using other Inspiration Magic skills). CoP + recasting Boon is 10 Energy, your Energy gain from MoR is only 13 Energy with 10 Inspiration Magic, then you make it 3 Energy instead, but of course, because your MoR cicle is halved, your Energy gain is doubled, making it 6 Energy. With a normal MoR you still gain 13 Energy, making this far superior.

I'm not too sure about what items to take. I really like the +30 Health boosts, but the recharge on Protection Prayers can work out nicely, since it might avoid forcing you to cast something you don't feel like casting (like Guardian instead of RoF). Increased casting time on Protection Prayers helps with Guardian and Mend Condition, but isn't required for Prot Spirit, RoF and CoP. Increased casting time on Inspiration Magic seemed nice at first, but I'm not too sure about this either. And my +5 Energy / +30 Health Katana looks so much nicer then any Wand too! Anyone got suggestions on what items to take?

And what Armor do you guys prefer? Sheperd's and Ascetic's are both so nice, but I've got the feeling I'm overdoing this whole Health thing. Already running around with 590 Health with Ascetic's set, and Sheperd's would make that 625, that's just too much, right? It's funny though, Warriors really don't seem to get this.. Especially Hammer Warriors get frustrated with this, they usually run to some other target instead I guess I'll just leave my Ascetic's on, 54 Energy is great!

Both. Switch to Sheperd's against spike with a large armor ignoring component, wanderers against spike with large Elemental component, Judges against spike with a large Physical component.

Ascetics has it's uses. Some people like using it when running MoR, for the larger energy pool to avoid waste. Against degen it has it has an advantage, especially when you may need a larger energy pool to pump out emergency Heal Parties.

PvE chars ftw.
