Easy ways to stop spiking, SB/infuse for instance. Rocks(Terrian) or an ele using blidning flash stops physical spikes, and SpellBreaker for caster types.(usually saves 1 person tho, because the spikers can easily switch targets :/ )

Did you even read the thread properly? This is particualrly about necro spike/spikes with a nasty followup.

SB/Infuse is great if you're running tombs but not in gvg and even in tombs, that stops a whole 1 spike. woop de doo, necros can spike every 8 seconds. blinding flash and terrain do nothing against just about every bit fo a caster spike, minus say lightning orb.

the +health idea works against most spikes, but unfortunately the very nature of shadow strike will cut straight through it; more health = more >50health hits= more mess for the Monk to clear up. that said, it gives the infuser some more time for most spikes

Clearing up is the easy part for the monk: Problem in a spike (thats why its called like that...) is that there is no cleaning up, only bodies. If you dont have a body after 1 spike you won 50% of the battle. If there isnt a body after the 2nd spike you won the match....So running with a high hp might just give you a survival against a spike....

Split them up, multiple COFS, spike is dead.

Like for every other types of one-way spiking, get in their faces hard with your interrupt/shutdown skills. You will take a few deaths probably while doing that, but if you keep the constant pressure on them, you will eventually make them fall apart. Although high health could help against a mesmer or necro spike, you should base your defense on interrupting the key skills of the spike. A few well timed diversions, so that they land right before the skill activate, can ruin any spike build out there.

Power Spike with the new recharge is a very good option against spike teams.

Now that Blood Spike basically gets 2 SSs, it could result to this(a bit energy heavy):
Cast SS
Target gets healed
Cast Lifebane Strike
Target dies or is left with extremely low health, while the enemy can't infuse anymore because the infuser is at 50% health(or the Infuse is weak at least)
Vamp Gaze to finish off

The problem is of course, like with any spike, if they do get a few spikes through on your mesmers/rangers/warriors your damage goes to crap and all of a sudden they are able to get off clean spikes. Doing good damage on the other team (and pressuring monks) while still interrupting spikes is pretty difficult. Although I do believe you really dont have too much of a choice. Splitting is a great delaying tactic on some maps but at the end of the day you have to take them down 8v8 for the most part. I suppose you still need godly monks because a few effective spikes will always slip through (I don't mean clean spikes, those are unstoppable. no monk can react ).

I guess multiple interrupts like power drain, power spike, cry, knockdowns spread across multiple characters while still maintaining a high DPS pressure is still the best solution.

And in response sir lockt, the reason why I mentioned these two spikes together is that they are spikes that actually put out a lot of pressure on the monks. DPS might not as huge as a good warrior based build but its considerable. Against their type of damage, you have to really only have a certain number of useful skills on the average prot or healer skillbar. Part of the problem, as I mentioned earlier, is that Boon prots just don't seem very well equiped to combat these types of damage. Also, the value of a cost effective heal like heal parties on secondary character certainly decreases when compared to its value against regular balanced builds.

Summary: DPS considerable. Not as high as warrior builds but due to nature of the heals you are forced to use.... lots of pressure on monks.

If your team can't get your infuser back up to full health in 8 seconds, you deserve to lose. Infuse has a recharge well under 8 seconds. And infuse should be fundamental on a healer in GvG- it's one of the most useful skills a healer can pack.

And blood spike is a weak choice for GvG in the first place, regardless of what follow-up you can dish out. A fundamental part of blood spike is frozen soil, which is almost useless in GvG. Unless its a very well practiced spike, something in the league of VoR, an infuse won't even be necessary. A WoH or heal other can probably stop the spike if interrupts don't.

I agree with the other post-ers who have argued agaisnt spiking. A CoF ruins your whole day, warrior pressure forces you to heal, and any and all other interrupts just add to the mess.

Default Blood Spike

I dont much care for true "spike" builds in that they have counters.

I have played a Blood Spiker SB/Infuser in GvG and its quite effective. Demonic Flesh helps the infuser more then people realize. Infusion is a great monk support allowing you to stand up a boon prot monk against an enemy spike team or when they are getting e-denied/kd. Freeing the other monk to keep on the party.

Most of the time simply keeping your monks on the initial spike up is enough to stop a spike group. As the spiker you deal nice damage. Soul Reaping keeps your energy high.

Shadow Strike, Vamp Gaze, Dark Pact (or barb signet), Demonic Flesh, Spell breaker, Infuse, Healing Touch (faster cast) or Orison of Healing, Rez Signet

Just some thoughts to incorpate into your GvG. Plus to get your health back up after infusion you can spike it with vamp gaze which is really a wicked thing to infuse press c and vamp gaze it feels very necro.

The amount of spike builds currently running around is the reason I prefer not to use 2 boon prot, our monks just dont have the skill to deal well with blood spike without an infuser so we run 1 boon prot and the following heal monk.

(Heal Party is there because the build this was originally maade for uses EW.)

Monk/Warrior:
Healing Prayers (16)
Divine Favor (12),
Blessed Light [E],
Healing Touch,
Heal Other/Healing Seed
Infuse Health,
Orison of Healing,
Holy Veil
Balanced Stance,
Heal Party.

Stopping spikes is only partially the job of your monks. Two Boon Prots can heal through Blood Spike just fine, if your team is doing a half decent job of disrupting it.

Yeah I realise that JR I just prefer to have along the heal monk instead of the dual boon prot combination, I was actually refering to the fastcast air spike/ranger spike where it is most usefull.

Additionally its pretty important for a build without much spike disruption to have an infuser.

its pretty important for a build without much spike disruption to.... get some spike disruption- fast!

and my point about bloodspike was that the initial few spikes arent so much to kill, but to wear down the monks (especially if they have to throw rof at it for the divine favour/boon bonus), why do you think bloodspike teams carry eoe?
