Is it possible? For instance on the stairs of HoH or something, is it possible to body-block an assassin from shadow stepping up?

From what I hear, no you can't bodyblock.

I tried it on the Isle of the Nameless a while ago. When you first make a new PvP character, you have to take a quest to get some guards to move out of your way, you can't walk past them but you can shadow step past them.

I know it is impossible to shadow step into the enemy base in GvG (i.e. get in the gate without the Guild Thief). I've never tried body blocking a chokepoint and attempting to shadow step through it. I'll do this experiment if I get a chance.

It seems like, in practice, though, it doesn't matter, because you'd have to block every possible path, as opposed to just the ones adjacent to the enemy sin for a "normal" body block.

Yea, but it could have its (very very limited) uses. It's more a "I wonder if" question than a practical one.

I'm tinkering with a R/A and have successfully shadowstepped in, dropped traps and stepped back out through mobs where blocking might otherwise have been a problem...I've also jumped up paths to higher levels to save running time. There is some great potential here...I'm glad to note...whenever I have tried to go through a closed gate...no luck, but that's a good thing.

I know that it's possible to do when there's ANY clear path to the target. I'm just asking if there is only ONE clear path and that is blocked by actual people.

Never seen an "actual" person in game...they are all virtual as far as I know.

Seriously though...In a Luxon mission, I was trying like hell to get to a monk up a flight of stairs...I could not get to him and there were no appearant alternate routes...only one way up. I used Death Charge and popped in right behind him.

Given my experience I'd have to say the answer is definately possible.
