Default How to defeat IWAY in HA

*Note to Mods: I know this thread has been used before, but it's an old thread (February), and IWAY has changed a good bit since then. It's also no longer an active thread. So please don't close this thread*

So this is a shout out to all you poor suckers (like me), who either refuse to use IWAY on principle, or who simply don't have the time to unlock all the skills. IWAY is a good build, no doubt about it, and it's hard to beat, but IT CAN BE DEFEATED!

So the purpose of this thread is for ALL y'all people who have beaten IWAY consistently to post your team builds, your "IWAY-hater" builds, your "Really good balanced team" builds, etc. etc. If you have a character build that excels at defeating IWAY, throw that in here too.

ME personally, I have never beaten an IWAY team, so I can't say anything beyond conjecture, but I should think a good Spiteful Spirit team could handle an IWAY team fairly handily.

A list of facts:

migraine > martyr trapper
barbed/dust trap > iway warriors
soothing images/sv > spiking ability of the iway warriors
ss > iway warriors
warriors > iway spirits
frozen soil > res
aegis > iway warriors
ward against foe/melee > iway warriors
degen > the skill iway
panic > TF, the skill iway and the spirits
e denial > tainted nec

and so on...

You can beat IWAY with anything, as long as you just kill the spirits first or move away from them. The rest is just killing them off one by one, and unless you have crap Monks you should be able to do it faster than they kill you.

99% of the time finding and killing NR constantly effectively elimanates the rangers from trapping as they become focused on spirits. Which is a great thing. The warder just needs to keep moving forward and the monks and mesmers must stay within the wards. While the 2 shock warriors practice seek and destroy on the spirits and necro's.

Iway is easy to beat. Just make sure pred and nr are down. I never got why iway takes 2 eoe's and only 1 pred. Why isn't it the reverse?

Because edge is the real danger.

Edge makes your teams 3 monk advantage irrelevant as the only useful healing when edge chains are going off is heal party spam, something a necro with soul reaping has a major advantage on.

Very true what those people said above, kill their spirit and iway's power is cut by half. With IWAY, it's not the iway that kills you, in fact I feel that the skill itself, "I will Avenge You" is really only secondary especially now that the attack speed is capped. It's really the EOE and the NR that kills you. so yeah, I always like to dedicate a warrior to go spirit hunting whenever I'm up against IWAY.

The only thing that makes iway strong is fast, high damage output. All you need is a bonder and good healers, and you can sit in one place if you wanted to. Just kill squishies first (casters and rangers) to waste the res sigs (or use frozen), then kill the warriors for the win.
And to correct you, IWAY is only a good build on maps with lots of trappable choke points. IWAY should never win on altars or dark chambers.

Quick points on beating IWAY:

- Your warriors main job (if you dont know him, get it into his head its his only job) is to take out the spirits. In order take out EoE, NR, Pred, unless your running a bonder in which case NR takes priority.

- Warders are IWAY killers. Having played IWAY its so funny to watch crap teams have players not use their wards and absolutley f***ing frustrating when they're entire team is untouchable in them. Also make use of Ward against Foes, personally I run Warrior Cunning over TF so I am able to spike targets when required, as do many other decent players, foes is a nightmare for that. However foes requires more thought on the part of your players to use than melee.

- Bonders are absolutely frustating as IWAY. A Me/N whose on top of his game with corpse control should see to it that IWAY has no chance to get off a well of the profane. Howver I just skimmed another post mentioning some new orders and something about enchants being made redundant (??)

- If you have surgers stick them on the trappers, if your using the wards correctly your biggest danger will come from that avenue.

- Finally the big beauty is SS. Stick them on the pets, not the warriors. Putting SS on a warrior only acts as a shutdown (if you just want that go for it) as he will walk away probably to refresh his spirit or try and chase someone further away from the pack. On the pets SS causes almost guaranteed damage, just make sure they have enough health to maintain ss.

Wards and Aegis chains are your friends. EoE and NR are your enemies. Oh, and don't just camp the wards, stay on the edges and kite through, otherwise you'll get hit hard with one or more of IWAY's nasty AOE's.

Good man for admitting it. If you were to believe most of the people in HA, unranked beginners included, you'd think an IWAY team had never won a match, and that each of them made a point of flawlessing (sp?) MATH several times a day.

After a while we'll need another thread on this topic I think. I've seen many mods in IWAY with the new skills.

Honestly, it is luck and the skill of the iway that your win will be dependent on.
If you've got two heal party's and one aegis, you'd better have a warder. If not, drop a heal party from the non sb infuse healer and run the second aegis.

The wards will really make no difference if your team is inexperienced. Don't think that you are smart balling in wards- in any situation. You must run your foes THROUGH the wards; kite. It is common for 2-3 corpses to pop up at a time, if you are on corpse control, any second you are not doing anything you need to be mashing your consume corpse.

On first arrival to spec them, tab through call the trappers. Watch both trappers for the NR, you had better have some sort of interrupt or chaos may ensue. Camp other ranger after for his NR.

Warrior's number one priority is natures renewal, NOTHING is more important (unless you are in halls with some exception hurting the other team or the like). Kill spirits, if you happen to be seeing someone casting a spirit, especially natures renewal, CALL THE TARGET- the warrior cannot always be primo on this.

Really doesn't take skill, it takes experience and luck to beat Iway. When I see people bragging about beating top 100 guilds or "rank 9-12" groups, it makes me laugh. Very comedic on the other end because all it takes is one corpse or a missed aegis or heal party and its over.

just trow in a ward against melee and against foes, maybe ss. And let the mesmers disable the order and tainter and/or martyr trapper. Thats really all you need against iway. I still love to play against iway because it is free fame

So far so good. I'm getting some good stuff. I think I'm going to try to get a pure IWAY hate team together (because SS pwns the Zaishen too), and totally nerf IWAY teams I go up against!

That would be awesome.

Let's keep up finding good anti-IWAY strategies and posting them here!

Uhh... I am bad at PVP but I don't see as IWAY has ever been hard to beat with a semi decent team :/.

Just use a standard balanced build? :/.

Well a mistake a lot of people make is not going after Warriors. Now... let me explain myself. If there is a necro or a ranger within range... go after them first.. However, they have a tendency to run across the map... through traps... making you overextend.

Most builds.. or decent builds at least.. have the damage output to focus fire and bring down an iway warrior pretty fast. This takes pressure off from your monks and costs them time as they try to res. Even if you fail... it usually forces the warrior to run back to heal up or forces their orders up to heal him.

Damage Dealers:

-Kill Trappers/Necros first if they are within range.
-If trappers/necros are all hiding out in the back... don't try to overextend through traps... out of wards... and into spirits... thats suicide. Target a warrior.
-If it works... great. If not it usually forces warrior to either back off or forces their orders to come to you.

--Some comment on monking... RoF is REALLY shitty against Iway, unless you have energy to spare + other spells recharging. Guardian + Restore Condition Spam + Prot Spirit Spam should keep you occupied and is much better damage control than RoF.

As healer... make sure to use heal party when the opportunity arises. It's a time/cost effective heal when 4~ people are damaged. It doesn't abuse channeling quite as well as small heals... but its the only way to keep up with Iway damage when 4~ people are injured. Just don't try to spam HP if an interrupt warrior on you for obvious reasons.

It seems that almost all anti-IWAY strategies have been posted so far. I haven't seen one that helps a lot, though. If you're a caster, wand the offensive trapper (the R/Me mantra of resolve trapper) CONSTANTLY. This will not only damage him/her (even if it is slightly), but it will also drain their energy extremely fast. That way, you won't have to worry about them as much.

Well Being of no rank and even trying to find a decent balanced build is an impossible task. Everyone wants at least rank 3+. I dont really think Iway is that bad of a build. I had a little better team last night and we got 3-4 consec wins but then lost in Hoh agianst a good team :P I got my first wins in HA with Iway so I wont complain about it, Most everyother Iway build we came accross we destroyed by taking out orders first then the other caster types. I have 13 fame now thanks to iway ;D
