On TA Builds
I feel that many TA builds can be split into one of a few categories. Any comments on my groupings? Obviously there's other types of builds in use as well, feel free to post things I haven't mentioned.
A) Direct damage teams. Typically rely on warriors/melee and elementalists to do damage, with little heed given to anti-melee or shutdown. As well, usually this type of team will have no counter to melee shutdown either: little hex removal, no draw conditions. B) Balanced. Typically this team will have 1 or 2 melee, and a melee shutdown -- either blindbot or hexer. Possibly includes a shutdown mesmer or interrupt ranger. The mesmer/necro/ele will often have hex removal/condition removal to counter enemy melee-shutdown. C) Hex/degen. A team with 2 hexers/degen and 1 melee. Typically one of the hexers will be anti-melee with degen, one will be anti-cast with degen. Sometimes the anti-cast hexer will be instead an interrupt ranger using Apply Poison or Melandru's Arrows. I class this as being different from B because the overall effect of the two degen chars is typically constant degen on the entire team, combined with melee/caster shutdown. D) NR/Tranquility. Occasionally you will see teams using Nature's Renewal and Tranquility. Typically these teams will use a Blessed Light monk or a Ritualist along with rangers and optionally warriors. Typically this build will rely on interrupts in order to take advantage of NR. Obviously, NR/Tranq are a very potent counter to any enchant/hex based build. In terms of how these teams match up... Team A should lose by default to any other kind of team simply because they have no counter to shutdown. Teams B & C will be mostly an even matchup against each other. The deciding factor will probably be the skill of the monk and the ability to counter shutdown. I think in general the degen team will have the advantage here, having more pressure and more shutdown. D is a bit of a wildcard. If NR/Tranq can be kept up, they have a big advantage, particularly against hexers/boon prots. But if the spirits are disabled/denied, they are simply a team with a Blessed Light instead of a Boon Prot. |
