Default Flatbow or Longbow

which is better for pvp? or does it depend on the build?

I would have to say that neither bow sees that much play in PvP, but the longbow is seen much more often than the flatbow. The reason is because of accuracy. The longbow has a medium arc, while the flatbow has a very high arc making it easy for the arrow to miss. The flatbow fires once every two seconds, while the longbow once every 2.5 seconds. The faster refire rate isn't worth it though if your arrows are missing.

The most common type of bow used in PvP is the recurve (composite) bow. It has the lowest arc and hence the best accuracy which is important for interrupting, spreading conditions, and doing damage.

In certain builds that use read the wind or favorable winds, a flatbow may make sense because the arc is reduced by this prep and nature ritual. My recommendation is to use multiple bows of varying range and arc in your 4 different weapon sets -- they do give you 4 options after all -- and switch weapon sets depending upon situations throughout a given battle.

It helps if you test your bows with your build first. I ran into a player last night using a flatbow running apply poison and crippling shot, and my team had no trouble at all strafing the highly arcing green arrows coming down on us. Very amusing indeed.

Agreed. Recurves are very nice for PvP. I still use Longbows on occasion to get in a suprise poison/cripple shot on unsuspecting enemies.

On the terms of Recurve, I suggest Gargash since you get good energy management from it.

Haha, I Figured. It's gonna be hard finding a 15^50 Recurve though with perfect mods.

Gargash because it looks like a Horn/Dead (Can never remember which) Bow but operates like a Recurve. Rotwing Recurve, I hear, has a spiffy unique look.

BTW, you guys do realize that if your making a pvp char, you get to choose through all the perfect mods...if you have them unlocked.

And yes, there are plenty of 15^50 recurve bows...lol

for crip shot flag running: nandet's recurve bow
for oath shot of any kind: rotwing's " " " "

the only time I DON'T use a recurve bow in pvp is when I'm doing ranger spike, then it's 5/1 vamp hornbow, and 20/20 longbow (standard equipment, both 15^50 health +30 of course).

of course, pvp characters always have these stats.

good point. my green suggestions will work just fine though. there's also a green poisonous bow if you want to go that route, but I don't know when you would. just check the wiki for the greens list, and pick what would be best.

Yes, A Sundering mod would be great when facing Warriors due to their evil armor, preferably 20/20.

Sundering is just plain terrible - if you're looking for a good damage-enchancing bowstring, I would select either an elemental mod (due to the nerf on warrior's armor resistance to elemental attacks) or a vampiric mod (due to the armor-ignoring damage). I personally prefer either a zealous bowstring or a crippling bowstring, due to their overall utility in PvP battles.

Vampiric does an extra 5 damage to a warrior on every hit, which equates to much more damage on average than a sundering mod. Or if you're using apply poison, then go with a lengthen poison duration mod and you'll end up doing more damage than any other mod can net you with apply poison.

Bottom line - sundering is crap. Do not waste your mod on it at the PvP character creation screen unless your build does not require you to do damage and no other choice makes sense. Certainly do not waste money buying a sundering mod for a PvE character.
