I love the useful premade builds now, but I do miss the spellslasher...I never got around to playing it.

I have a few minor issues with some of the warrior skills (no bull's strike, or protector's strike, makes me sad) and someone needs to tell johnny that he needs 14 expertise to be good on that ranger, but all in all, I was very pleased with the new builds.

I hate the new premades.

The reason for this sentiment is because the old premades were filters of sort. If you saw a boon protter in RA, then you could be reasonable sure he knew what he was doing. Now, anyone can boon prot, making reliance on them somewhat iffy (boon protters are not exactly an easy role to fill). Also, it's harder to distinguish good players and...inexperienced players while looking for a team in say, RA. A W/E would probably be better than a W/Mo in TA. It's a bit general, but it basically applied to most players before the new premades.

Oh well.

Suppose Joe wants to play a monk in RA and that he hasn't monked before. Suppose Joe is going to end up on your team. Now before he would have taken one of the old pre-builds and you would have lost (this is a little pesemistic). Now Joe can take one of the new pre-builds and you'll still lose. Either way, if Joe ends up on your team you lose. You couldn't rely on him then, you can't rely on him now. So you really aren't any worse of than you were before. It just takes a moment before you know if the man/woman behind the boon prot mask is inexperienced or not.

The new premades won't necessarily drastically improve your average RA team as people still have to figure out how to play them effectively. But at least now they're learning to play quality builds that they can grow into which are also a great time saver from having to roll up a version of roughly the same thing from scratch everytime.

That said I've played with a number of wammo's in RA since the changes. Which means they actually went out of their way to put those skills on their bar. A scary thought. The next project is deprogramming wammos trained for months by the old pre-builds. Perhaps EW can open up a free clinic for dealing with mending withdrawl symtoms.
