Default Dervish and paragon: PvP evolution

Purpose of thread: discussing the use of the new professions in pvp (especially gvg).

BTW: we have a new smiting skill:

Arcane Zeal [elite] (mysticism)
For 10 seconds, whenever you cast a spell, you gain 1 Energy for each enchantment on you (maximum 5...x)
10 energy / 1 cast time / 5 recharge

The Paragon initially strikes me as a more versatile Ritualist. Their variety of shouts can support either backline or midline casters, and their high armor allows them to move pretty freely around the field. They lack the pure defensive power of a rit, but unlike a rit they can split effectively and have a lot of utility outside of pure defense. I think it's a good class and will make a nice addition to the game, though I'm hoping it won't promote defensive builds as much as the rit did.

The Dervish is a bit puzzling, and I haven't found its niche yet. An awful lot of its skills are DDs or conditional self-heals (universally bad in PvP.) The avatars look great until you realize that you can only keep them up 50% of the time, which makes them a pretty crappy basis for a build. Overall, I didn't see any skills in the Dervish tree that make me want to bring them over another character.

I haven't had much chance to test either though, so my opinions may change once I have more unlocks.

Still a bit strange that Shouts and Chants aren't removable.

Or am I missing a game-mechanic (haven't been able to play GW yet).

I think Echos and Shants are unstrippable too. I can undestand it with Shouts, there are shouts since prophecies (warrior like Charge and so on). However the paragon as already mentioned boosts quite a bit of enchantment-quality echo/shants/shouts, which imo would be unbalanced if it stays like this.
could be wrong tho

I played the dervish a bit this morning in the random arenas, The skills seem very fun, and I really like that a strike with the scythe also hits adjacent opponents, But I really feel that the dervish as a primary might be a lot better in pve. There is a lot of enchantment removal in pvp. Not so much in PVE, I cant wait to try the dervish in PVE. I plan to delete the dervish this evening and try the paragon (after work.) it seems like it will be more suited to pvp than pve... The paragon looks fun, The dervish is fun.

The dervish's adjacent attacks and ability to regain mana through enchantments ending is gonna be brutal with the existing smite builds :3

Spearmen were already running R/P spike last night ;D

I'm imagining that earth armor is going to become a lot more common.

Bubye ebon weapons...

EDIT: I'm imagining that AOE might become more fun, considering that teams with paragons need to stay relatively close together.

Not really. Shouts are ward range at present, which isn't really a major positioning issue so long as the Paragon stays on the midline.

As for the Adjacent attacks of the Dervish, it strikes me as a mostly PvE thing. I'm sure you'll occasionally hit multiple characters with a scythe attack, but it won't be so common as to increase pressure all that much.

Most shouts are earshot and are aggro bubble range at present.

As for the new skills, I find the mysticism and command lines very interesting while the others are slacking a bit.

Is scythe AoE "nearby" or "adjacent"? I'm guessing it's the latter, but I've heard a few people claim it's the former.

It seems to be that it hits anyone adjacent to both you and your direct target you're attacking. So it doesn't hit anyone behind you.

Just from swinging a few times at the target dummies, I'm pretty sure it hits enemies adjacent to the dervish, even if they're behind her and not adjacent to the target.

Cruel spear (I think its called that) which adds a deep wound to a moving foe for 7 adrenaline and is non-elite looks like a very tasty skill imho, and I had alot of fun with it last night. Easy deep wounds are always ftw
