Oh yeah lol, that was dumb of me. Well I'm not sure then. This is just such a rediculous problem to have; why can't everyone just be honest? x.x

Perhaps you only gain faction if you leave a certain area or something? I dunno.

And yes, people are obviously just sitting there to gain faction, and pressing enter all the time. Because you see the SAME person AFK'ing on different rounds.

Hmm.. well. How about if people have to click on a "Ressurrect yourself" button? So when they die, they have to click on it to go back to the base. This way you need to leave a certain area to get faction when your team makes kills, and if you leave that area you're risking dying. When dead you don't get faction either.
This way people MUST stick around to ressurect themselves, and must put their character out of the initial area.
Of course, if you have to stick around for that much attention, you might as well just play the mission instead of stick around at the computer waiting for yourself to die!

that is a great idea, and i dunno why they dont play, if they win they get considerably more faction, especially now with the new update.

This should be in the game regardless of whether it will effectivley deter this activity or not.

Probably going to be more complicated in a team of 8.
This would be awesome if implemented. Not only from a pvp standpoint but in PvE as well. Afkers who drag out cinimatics, afkers who cause problems for players to respawn at res shrines. Having the only option to restart a cleared area or mission and also find the players that were with you is not a good fix to afkers.

As far as having teams that are heavily screened and teams that stay 4x4 all the way through winning games, for me I like having a rotating team and like that I can party with some better pvpers and actually learn some thing more about the games as their best played.

Last afker actually came up with a reason that his mum had called him away, nice how he happened to be there immediatly to respond, nice that he couldn't have left or just exited the game(sarcasm off).

Another preventable measure may be for guilds to get on board and try to punish the members for this kind of activity, it's down to each guild to decide if they deserve repremanding or not. But if all guilds started doing this maybe we'd have a better player base and less afkers.

just to have my lil bit of rant:

saw so many afk'ers during mission... they jsut join a random team, then hope the remaining teamate finish the mission for them, so they can get 1000 exp + get to the next area....

so at one stage, we completed aurora glade with a 3 man team cuz of that (and leavers)...

i think it's a great idea afk'er (esp in mission/explorable area) shud be kicked in some way or an other...

wow... ive seen some of the most stupidest posts ever in this thread... ya great idea guys lets ban the afkers! NOT! stop bieng buncha nerds and worring bout afkers it is true most of em are FF and leeching but some of us have athing called REAL LIFE i sometimes might have somthing come up and need to leave for 10-15mins AFTER ive already pressed enter battle.
who cares if 1-2 guys are FF and they get 600f oh booo hoo. dont get me wrong i hate FF as much as you do but banning them is next to impossible for the fact that bieng AFK is not agaist any rules and SHOULD NOT BE. and most of them arnt even using bots but rather an ouside external program that is next to imossible to catch and im sure anet has beter things to do other than worry about AFKers

Bots are outside external programs, from ANet's point of view.

Stopping griefing is a big deal. This is griefing, plain and simple.

You call it AFK, I call it griefing.

Like all rule-breaking, having it happen once in a while is fine. Having it happen regularly is unacceptable, and highly detectable and totally catchable.

How about you have to spend, say, 80% of the battle outside your own base to gain any faction at all? And/or maybe if no player input is detected (I know it's easy to fake, but every bit helps) for 60-120 seconds, you are dropped from the arena.
Should probably be topped off with some detection of attacking and usage of skills targeting other players. Far fetched? Ya. But it should help some.

Yes, sometimes things happen in real life that need you to go AFK - it can't be helped. But to use real life as an excuse to go AFK at every start of a mission or battle is lame and pathetic. If you have to go afk because of 'Real Life' things then stop clicking "Enter Battle" (or Mission), stay away until you have sorted out your real life situation...or is it the case that you're unable to do that as well?

Maybe Anet should create a new area where you get faction points for the amount of time you stay there. Faction AFK Farmers can all go there and stand still for their heart's content, and let the rest of us who want to get factions from playing in peace.

Because you can choose your teams, and speak to people before hitting enter, AFKs are not nearly as prolific as Aspenwood.

Report AFKs, please. Nothing will get done if all you do is come here and complain or whisper them to tell them how newbish they are. Take the time to talk to yoru team before hitting enter. Anyone that just spams 'go go go!' needs to be kick kick kicked out. They will not be an effective member of yoru team anyway, so dumpt he little cuss, let him form a bad party, lose oodles, and decide AB is for nubs.

make a firends list of good players. I know many of you do this; I can't tell you how many people blind whisper my monk the second she pops on. Most of them I played with once and I don't even know who they are. Failing that, stick to your guild groups; they have to be good for something.

Well normally when I go into alliance battle it's when the guild is offline, generally that's durring my quiet time as I've finished with alot of pve stuff and want to wind down with a bit of pvp and fun.

I always try and get in successful groups but quite often lately there has been a high percentage of afkers in my games. No there not on my 4 man team but certainly part of the 4-4-4.

As Minus Sign says we have some way of choosing our groups and sure we can go with guild and friends but this while making it easier to avoid afkers does nothing to stop this behaviour.

I want to play a pvp match with an active team. Meaning I want players to be killing and dying, capping and fleeing along side me NOT standing at the base camp.

If it's so easy for these players to get whatever amount of faction from standing there AFK then why shouldn't we be getting a free hand out? I just think they should d/c after 10 mins .. problem solved.

how about you gain all faction like you would with exp. you just have to stand close enough. the range should be fair so monks also get the same amount of faction, tough to be honest when i go duo with someone my monk always gets less exp then the person in front :-(

AFK'ers, leavers; Alliance battles are swamped with these. I remember a few days ago losing 7 battles in a row. Not only was it 7 in a row, but the team never managed over 140 points. Why? Half the team would be AfK, or they'd leave.

Solution? Have ArenaNet introduce code whereby players are kicked from Alliance battles if a) they do move from the starting zone within 3 minutes, or b) they do not move for 3 minutes. The latter is better, so they can't join and then run to the teleporter. I'll take this to sardelac.

Shame it won't solve the problem of people not capturing control points. It's such an easy concept I don't know why it doesn't happen as often as it should. Fight huge mob and a minimal amount of faction and xp, or capture and rake in the factions. hmm.
