Default Monks using staffs?

recently i've been seeing that most monks are using staffs.
this doesnt make any sense because imo you can reach better results using rod/focus or sword(or axe)/focus.

for faster cast times its better to use the 20/20 rod and focus.

for energy using the +5e sword nets more energy than a staff.

for extra health using the +30 sword and +45 focus (while enchanted) gives 15 more health than the hale staff of fortitude. (doesnt have a faster cast/recharge mod tho)

for defence using the +5armor sword and +5armor while enchanted focus seems like a better option (even tho it doesnt give the faster cast/recharge also) because the focus also gives additional 45 health.

when im playing the infuser i usually take the +30 health sword and the +45 while enchant focus.
if im the woh im taking the 20/20 rod and focus because sometimes it may save someone and also in case the skill is diverted it has a chance for a faster recharge.
when im the rc/prot i take the +5e sword and the 20/20 focus.

i'd be very grateful if someone could clear this out for me

Plus it's joyful to interrupt trappers successfully.

Valid Arguments :
A) It's easier to buy good gold/green staffs/staves
B) The benefit between staffs/wands + focii isn't that severe.

Personal :
A) I prefer the look of staffs

+5en/+20%enchant sword and 20/20 focii for a Prot monk are an unecessary trouble that people struggle for!

My 20/20 +5en/+20enchant Staff does the EXACT same thing, just 2 less energy!!!

Now if your Prot monk is having THAT much problems where 2 energy would have helped, then you need to learn how to play that build. Brutal, but honest and true.

enjoy

Staff vs Sword + Foci boils down to ...
ranged attack vs 2 extra energy.

I usually pick the 2 extra energy. You could also roll a wand + focii or staff in second slot for ranged attack. Every little bit helps in HA.

Why dont you just take:
[Weapon Slot 1] The +5 Energy Sword, Focus #1
[Weapon Slot 2] The Staff, Focus #2 (Focus is not used with staff equipped, but still held.

This way you can have different sorts of foci and still take a staff for wanding down spirits or interupting trappers.

Energy cover weapons dont need to be customized so you might aswell just keep a set in storage for all your new PvP characters to use.

I agree.

Weapon Set 1
(Main Weapon - Ideally a HoD + Focus (depending on actual build, 20/20 for both attributes isnt that important, maybe +30hp and 20% for your primary role whatever that maybe)

Weapon Set 2
Staff or Wand + Focus

Weapon Set 3
Negative Energy

Weapon Set 4
Emergency Energy Set (15 -1 Wand & Focus)

Its how I play anyway.

EDIT:
Personally here is what I use

RC PROT:
Hand: +5e Sword & 20% Enchant Mod
Focus: 20% Recharge, +30HP

WOH/HP
Hand: Stormray
Focus: Incetol's Focus (40% Casting Speed is just unbeatable!)

INFUSER
Hand: +5e Sword & 30hp Mod
Focus: Incetol's Focus

BOON PROT:
Hand: +5 Sword & +5 Armour Mod
Focus: Divine Symbol (+5armour & +45hp Enchanted)

NEGATIVE ENERGY
Hand: Katana -5 Energy & +5 Armour Mod
Focus: Forgotten Fan

EMERGENCY ENERGY
Hand: +15e -1e regen
Focus:+15e -1e regen

I've never been a fan of +30 sets, always ends badly. I do favor sword/icon over staves because I view the 20 recharge for heal or prot useless. I just item switch to a wand in certain situations (like killing a displacement or building adrenaline...yea for weird monk builds). Here is what I run for HoH sb/infuse and GvG heal monk:

Set 1: vs. high dps
+30 health +5 eng serpents axe
+30 health 20% faster cast incetol's focus

Set 2: neg energy set/adrenaline spike counter
+5 armor -5 energy zodiac axe
+10 armor candy cane shield

Set 3: infuse
+5 eng^50 20% faster cast stormray
+30 health 20% faster cast incetol's focus

Set 4a: SB
5% faster recharge +20% enchant presear crystalline
+30 health 20% faster recharge end game straw effigy

Set 4b: GvG inspiration magic
+5 eng under 50 20% faster recharge
+30 health 20% faster recharge end game straw effigy

The only thing I would want to change from that is the +5 energy over 50 for a +5 energy while enchanted.

I normally use:

Weapon Set 1:

Insightful Something Staff of Enchating/Fortitude
(Or Brohns Staff if I Use my PvE monk)
20/20 *Place Attribute here*

Weapon Set 2:

Sword + 5 Energy of Fortitude/Enchating

Focus + 12 Energy
20/20 *Place Attribute here*

Weapon set 3:

Sword + 5 Energy of Fortitude/Enchating

Focus + 12 Energy
+15 Energy - 1 Energy regen

I use the staff the majority of the time. But when I'm under low e-denial or if I'm a bit low on energy and my energy management is somehow disabled I'll switch to the sword/focus temporaliy to throw out some heals b4 using my energy mangement. And I use Weapon set 3 when I'm under heavy E-denail or if I need to throw out several heals. So basically I focus swap -alot- heh

If you're looking to interrupt trappers, you'd be quite well off with the Nolani wand.

On a monk (typically boon prot and in pvp) I prefer to use:
1. -5energy, +20% enchant axe/sword & -2 while enchanted, +30HP always shield (low energy)

2. 20% recharge inspiration, +5^50 wand & Inspiration +1 (20%), 20% recharge on inspiration focus (for casting MoR or EDrain)

3. +5 energy, +20% enchant sword/axe & Prot +1 20%, recharge on prot (20%) focus

4. Currently don't use it but I would go with a Nolani wand and the above focus.

If you post complete garbage it will be deleted. This is not up for debate.

Because it's the only way to get +60 health with mods that don't suck. By going into a one hand weapon/focus combo you force yourself into 10% recharge, or +5 energy. As for the +45 mod while enchanted, I guess you've never come across a spike team that has multiple shatters in their spike - losing the health in a spike is an easy way to die, variable health mods on fragile conditions seem to be asking for trouble to me.
