iQ - you've done it again!
almost all highranked gvgs are ending with VoD, so it's just smart to build for it as well. ^^
gg & /congrats

Rock on!

Thanks for all the support guys. After watching WM before in their match against Te we know that we certainly have our work cut out for us. We'll do our best though .

Not to mention, they are playing to win the tournament, not playing to entertain those watching on observer mode or to comform to said peoples 'rules of play'.

Congratz I am glad to see USA team in the finals, it's time for a change. IQ, your VoD Tactics seems very risky, at first in the second match, however seeing that you planneed a gank at first, then waited for the final was luck, but the second time was pure skill, given Evils first win on that map.

Good Luck on the finals!!!!
USA, USA, USA!!!!

P.S. Will we see Lara Valor drunk again, like she was in the second match against Evil?

What on earth was that first morale boost you conceded to WM all about? It could've been something I didn't notice, but in OM it seemed like it shouldn't have happened at all, and imo almost lost you the match after they got all their sigs back and wiped you at the stand after VoD.

If you guys lose the GWFC because of another little slip like that, I swear I'm going to cry.

SPOILERS, If you want to watch it first, CONTAINS INFO ON LAST GAME:

In game 3, it was risky to try Triple Smite Gank, and saddly it didnt work.

What was plain stupid was going for that second gank right after rez knowing what happened the first time....That basically nailed your coffins shut and flushed your chance of winning down the toilet. :\

I really think you coulda Turtled around and picked at WM. it was OBVIOUS that in direct combat yall coulda done something, because look at time after yalls rez - you were picking off those WM members easy.....I don't see much logic in going for that seocnd gank when it didn't work the first time and you were now DP'ed....

That Catapult they got on you added insult to injury

America got to the Finals, good enough for me though.

iQ stole the sweet taste of a hard earn victory from WM.

It was practically a garuntee that iQ knew they wouldn't win, and just threw the towel.

I couldn't ever see TripSmite gank working against one of the world's best. Ever.

IMO, it was just plain stupid. Maybe Ensign or someone else from iQ can give us some insight into the thinking behind it?

The thinking goes something like 'If they run monk/assassins again and if we put a triple smite team in their boat, will they be able to survive long enough to kill us?' The answer is yes, if they don't split and bring three mesmers (which rocked our faces). There wasn't time to work out a complicated plan, so we guessed at some things WM might be vulnerable to and went all-in. Rayne had made a ton of awesome decisions so far in the tournament, this one just didn't work out.

Either way, we knew the match was going to end quickly with a lot of death. It just happened to be us who ate 15 deaths in 2 minutes =p

Peace,
-CxE

I want yall to know, I'm not too negative like you might have gotten from my last post, I'd have loved to see iQ win - America is FTW.

I guess that last match was just rushed on yalls part, You can see where the frustration of your fans comes from :\

It wasn't the most glamorous way for you to go out, so you can see where the rampent rumours of yall just giving up on that one came in.

Can you explain why you made the second gank attempt? The first one had the element of surprise and non-dped characters and it still failed. Why did you think the second would?

Congratulations on getting to the finals though.

Thumbs up

Yeah, that's the thing with the triple smite build, and so many other 'gimmick' builds. In one area, you have a tremendous advantage that, if you can exploit it, gives you a clear (and as you note, short) path to victory. Of course, one thing you didn't want to see was WM bringing serious enchantment stripping capability, which helped lead to the disasterous outcome of Match 3.

As unsavory as that last match was, I will remember other things about this GWWC related to iQ, including your ignoring the flag stand dance in order to play to your strengths, ale drinking, turtling for 29 minutes before rocking EviL, and playing some of the most inspired matches I've seen since we've had obs mode. 'Never say die' comes to mind when I think of you guys. While I'll never understand your selection of tactics - let alone the build - for Match 3, I'm going to keep in mind the incredible gameplay that got you there in the first place, and carried you to the finals. Seeing how you got there is why I still play the game, and why I continue to work to make myself a better player!

Congratulations, and good luck in the next GWWC!

All this talk about iQ throwing that last game reminds me of all the talk of Te throwing the third game in the first GWWC with Fast Cast Air. They made a mistake. It happens.

Triple smite vs 3 mesmer WM backline. iQ gambled and lost, it happens. Yeah the match would have been a bit more interesting if iQ didn't charge in the second time, considering that they dropped one of the body gaurds in the first charge you could see why they wanted to charge in again.

Even if it were an 8v8 battle at the flag stand it wouldn't have mattered, WM chose a splittable map and more importantly they had 3 mesmers to counter triple smite. It was a horrible match up for triple smite from the offset, but hey credit WM for that.

My understanding of the second charge:
-They realized that they had the losing build in that match and would never have won in VoD with that build.
-If they dropped the second bodyguard, they would cut down the AoE damage enough to hold long enough to let the pressure break WM's Mo/A defense.

I personally would have liked to see either a ritualist or a tainted necro in the gank team. That said, WM had 3 fewer matches to prepare for and iQ didn't have a solid build for their 8th match of the tournement. WM was prepared for what iQ had been running to that point, so it wasn't suprising that iQ jumped in a crazy direction.

The second charge into their base was a huge mistake, that came out of desperation because we were so hosed. The 'logic' went something like "they only have one bodyguard left, it will be easier this time!" We really should have sat back and re-evaluated what was going on, and tried to fight them straight up.

We know that the match looked really bad. But that's always going to happen when you gamble and lose. If you slug it out for 30 minutes and lose at VoD people call it a hard fought match even if you didn't have much of a chance, but when you put all the chips in and either win or lose spectacularly, you're either hailed or called a moron.

Consider everything you've seen this tournament, though. Games were rarely won or lost in slugfests, but through tricks around the lord and VoD that teams were not prepared for. We went all in on them putting people into our base, and not having the backline to deal with triple smite in an enclosed space like the lord room. To an extent we were right, but 3 mesmers with double enchant removal rocked our three smiters, and it went downhill from there.

But stop and consider for a moment. If they only had two mesmers, don't you think that we would have gotten both bodyguards in that crazy push? Wouldn't that have seriously changed the nature of the game if they no longer had that big NPC advantage? Moreso, consider what happens if they bring only one mesmer. I still think that between three smiters and three melee, that with only one mesmer, War Machine would have lost right then and there, and the flavor of this conversation would have been completely different.

Did we lose? Yes, we lost spectacularly. But don't immediately turn that into 'you guys are morons'. Knowing we were up against the best adapting team in the world, we put all of our chips in and tried to win big, and it just didn't work out. Oh well. =)

Peace,
-CxE

Well, good try. I got to say that WM can practically tell the future, and I'm not sure entirely how they do it. You might've made a couple tactical errors, btu thsoe 3 mesmers.... wow.

Grats.
