It is a good concept, just horrible implementation.

If you didn't have to buy prophecies for the unlocks to work on your PvP characters and the price was toned down just a little then it would be a great system to catch players up. Someone could pick up nightfall and buy the prophecies and factions unlock packs.

....Wait.
Well honestly, If you cant run through either campaign in about 30hrs, thousands of hour JR, arent you in a top guild. I bet you guys waste faction like a MF.

HERE IS THE SECRET!

60% of the skills you will never use, you will just unlock them to say you are 100% unlocked. WHO HAVE EVER USED FEVERED DREAMS? more than once?!?!?!

Beating the game doesn't give you UaS last time I checked. Lets say it takes 30 hours. 30 X 8 =240. Thats 10 straight days of play just to get the basics. Too much IMO even if thats all it did take.

I'm also curious as to how you waste faction.

It has taken me over 1000 hours of GvG to get to about 80% UAX, where I am at with my current account at the moment. A new player starting out without a guild and the ability to GvG regularly will take a LOT longer.

No, you don't need UAX to play competitively, if you know what skills to unlock. However, does a new player necassarily know what skills do unlock?

Me. There was a time when fevered worked quite nicely in conditions degen builds.

Anyway, while you are right to say that alot of the skills dont see much usage, there are still a hell of alot that do, and the meta is always shifting every time there is a balance patch, and sometimes in between. Who would have thought of a use for Glyph of sacrifice for example? Or Soul barbs? Or RI? Time was when hardly anyone touched ether prodigy or blinding flash. only recently balth aura and zealots fire came back into common usage after months on the scrapheap.

Thing is, you need to have all currently used skills, runes and weapon upgrades unlocked, and this is constantly shifting.

but this misses the point entirely.

If I buy Guild Wars to play PVP, then why the hell should I spend even ten minutes never mind 200 hours mucking about in some lame environment that I hate in order to get myself to the point where I can play the game that i bought?

Exactly. GW is two types of games in one. Until now you had to either grind for faction, or play the PvE to unlock skills, even if all you ever wanted or bought the game for was PvP. The amount of time is irrelevant, if a person buys a PvP game, they should be able to sit down and PvP.

If he doesent, then he does not know how to use them either, does he?

It'd save the new player a lot of time/frustration. He'd be able to learn from experienced players more quickly, with UAX. Wheras, with balthazar faction, you're sort of...limited...

I'm pretty close to UAX on my first account, about 9 months old with around 1500 hours played, fortunately I was able to get into a top 30 guild and they were able to tell me what to unlock (what's a good warrior skill I would ask? Eviscerate! K thx, go back to GVG)

but for the AVERAGE player, they'll see crap like life transfer and want to get that asap (I know I capped it with my ranger to get the unlock)

And pray tell how do you expect him to work out how to use it, without it unlocked?

I like the idea of the PVP unlocks. I hope this will help new players have the oppertunity to experiment with builds that may not be FOTM. If this increases the number of different builds in TA, RA, GVG, or HA I think it is well worth it.

I would never waste my money on it, but it was asked for by the Guild Wars community and it is nice to see they respond. People did want it, they have it, it is a good idea and can help people that haven't played from the start.

To me, this is just allowing me to get the skills without spending 100+ hours on it, i can spend 5 hours at work and unlock all the skills and then learn player skill by dedicating in particular fields. Now, for me, id rather do 5 hours of work than grind in RA, TA or HA. Maybe TA but only for gladiator points which require a bit of skill to aquire.

Same thing goes for runes, armour and weapons, If you don't have them you can't deciede which you want to use.

/unsigned.

Maybe some of us hate the dull, mind numbing PvE? PvP, there's always something new, exciting, competetive.

Besides, an average working man could make more than 1000 USD (i think) in over 100 hours. Heck, i dont know, but i think i might buy one just because i dont feel like capping all those skills and listening to master togo's (or should i say Yoda's?) voice all over again. Yes, im getting a new compy, and a new version of Gw, because me and my bro have to take turns.

You whine for UAS, then you whine cuz you have it.

/not signed.

you think it's expensive? don't buy it. I'm not buying anything of the sort and i pretty much strictly PvP.

At least it gives an option for new players, yes i know, it would be expensive too buy all the skills (no way in hell could i afford it, and besides, i'd never use the Warrior skills.), but with the option, they can at least decide if they would rather spend a couple hours and get the faction needed for one or two builds and just play those while they get more faction, or do they want too blow all kinds of cash.

They could double the amount of faction needed too buy skills and the grind in guild wars would still be pretty much nill.

cheerio.

I don't care. In the future, I will ask for /age, faction and pve playage before I know that the UAX in front of me either bought it ( and still might be a noob ) or unlocked it all over time and through faction.

lol - yes this way doesn't take time or skill but - so what? does that matter at al - its not as if they are buying fame etc - just making the game slightly less hostile to people who haven't been playing for a year or so. if you want it - buy it. if not - don't. /not signed

That's kind of sad, UAX is not a measure of anything.
