nerf on smite = thumbs up. its a cheap trick that are exploited by some. of course, smite users are defensive and its natural.

anyhow, how about capping attack speed to 25%? frenzy, flurry and lightning reflexes next?

overall i dont care bout the update. the game goes on. ADAPT OR CRY.

Why use 2 skills to do what 1 does better?

Some of the changes I like, but I can say one thing for sure....

I am really going to start to hate Aspenwood now with spammers and prots being nerfed.

Though one thing I think is that we might have new skills coming out in Nightfall that would make some of the current builds too powerful. I guess we have to wait and see.

Yay now that boon has been "nerfed" per-say, i have a reason to bring HH when i go to HoH!!!!!!! /sarcasm

But in all seriousness.. wtf its not that big a deal, on my monk i ran 13 divine prayers anyways, its not going to effect me the slightest bit, i'ma just have to get a major divine prayer rune, as for eviscrate.. uuhm make a good skill less effective but still making it damn powerful.. kind a weird "fix"

"Spam" is a bad term, You wouldnt get more than 3 off before Exhaustion WTFPWNT your usage of it.

The Boon nerf opens some stuff up..If a mesmer can Shatter the Boon as it is put up your team has a good ~8 secs left to spike someone out.

Boon is still very playable. It takes two enchantment removals to take it down for 8 seconds - and if you haven't noticed, a lot of the best boonprots in the game take their boon down somewhat regularly. If you think losing 10 off the heal is going to make the skill unplayable, you're playing a different game than I am.

Ritualists are a lot different now. Ritual Lord guy is dead. However, Channeling / Communing hybrids have some very nice things going for them now.

Smiting is even more fragile now. I personally wouldn't play it, but with Dervishes coming in a month and change that's probably for the better. Extinguish, meh. The change is largely cosmetic - they didn't like the skill outclassing or matching up with Martyr on casting time and recharge, respectively. It's still a solid enough skill to warrant a place on your bar.

Oh, and Shadow of Haste is really, really sexy now.

Peace,
-CxE

Alright. My semi-clueless take on the highlights from the lengthy list of changes.

Shadow of Haste: decreased Energy cost to 5, increased the duration to 30..60, and decreased the movement speed by 15%.

AoD-lite? Interesting on both primary and secondary, worth a try with a switch stance. In an ideal world, it'd have less than 30s recharge, I guess.

Dash: decreased recharge time to 8 seconds.

Pretty tasty. Dash + SoH on a Monk could be nice.

Repeating Strike: increased damage to 10..30.

Nice DPS if you don't miss. I'd guess it'd have to be on a R/A as before.

Temple Strike: decreased recharge time to 20 seconds, and increased duration to 1..10 seconds.

Temple Strike was awesome when you actually land it. Now, would it be worth sacrificing AoD? Probably not but it's more tempting.

Siphon Speed: increased movement speed reduction to 33%, and this spell now has half range.

This was already pretty good but in a fairly weak attr line. Now looks very nice - maybe tempting on a W/A, even.

Black Lotus Strike: reduced recharge time to 20 seconds.

Very nice start to the combo.

Unsuspecting Strike: increased conditional damage to 15..75.

Pointy. That's going to hurt. There was a distinct lack of a really nasty lead attack - hence everyone doing their level best not to run one, instead using Shock -> Falling Spider.

Balthazar's Aura: decreased duration to 8 seconds.
Zealot's Fire: increased recharge time to 45 seconds.

So long, Smiting.

Tiger's Fury/Bestial Fury: decreased the attack speed to 25%.
Irresistible Blow: increased recharge time to 6 seconds, decreased damage to 5..20.

A bit of thumper nerfage. Does 25% on Tiger's mean you miss the deep wound on Hammer Bash -> Crushing Blow? I don't think so but I'm not 100% sure.

Eviscerate: decreased damage to 1..31.

Still seems like the best axe elite.

Ritualist stuff - well, wow. A lot of changes. But mostly:

Shelter: increased Energy cost to 25, increased damage taken to 75..45, decreased recharge time to 45 seconds.

A very significant nerf to the best defensive Ritualist skill. Together with all the spirit recharge buffs, it's looking like the effective-but-deathly-dull defensive Ritual Lord build can be put away for a while. The new Channeling skills and damage spirits sound a lot better but I'm not sure they'll be good enough for actual PvP use. I'll have to try it.

Broad Head Arrow: decreased Energy cost to 15.

Last time I did a TA run we had a ranger wrecking casters with this, even with the increased cost. I'll be interested to see what he does with it now...

Extinguish: increased cast time to 1 second, increased recharge time to 12 seconds.

At last now you can try to land an interrupt - and especially, Distracting Shot. Serious help for condition pressure builds - I'm expecting to see significantly more Tainted Flesh.

Ether Prodigy: increased damage per Energy to 3.

Strange but true. Not sure why this really makes any difference - seems like a "well, we couldn't come up with a real fix so this will be better than nothing in the meantime".

Divine Boon: increased recharge time to 10 seconds, decreased amount healed to 15..60.

Boon was really, really good. Now it's not quite as good but it still seems playable.

And there you have it. The biggest changes, obviously, to Assassin and Ritualist mean there's a ton of experimentation room in there to find out some new workable builds.

I have to agree.

After the initial knee-jerk reaction to the nerf and RA-ing with a few experimental builds, I decided to GvG. Was asked to run a Boon Prot, I thought fine, whatever. Surprisingly it wasn't too bad. To quote what I said in another thread:

Quote:
Actually I ran a Boon Prot in a few GvGs today. I could feel the slightly lessened power, but it was still pretty solid. Even against a team with heavy Mesmer hate on me, it didn't feel much more painfull than it used to.

I actually disagree with the smite nerf. Though I'll always be heal/prot, I know people who want to smite.

@Anet: stop dangling a carrot under smite monks noses. Either nerf it into oblivioun or buff it enough to make a viable build from the skills.

Nope. You can do it without the fury. The whole idea of the fury was to speed up the regular attacks as well as build up adren faster.

the skill you're looking for is probably "shadow of haste", not "heart of shadow". it's a viable alternative to return now, but it's recharge of 30 seconds is a bit restrictive.

also, if you reapply it, will it set your current location as the set point, or will it return you to your old set point?
HoS, SoH, sorry, posted it at @ 2am and was sleepy . Put it this way, for running it you get a constant 15% speed buff, the ability to return at any time under any circumstance (knock down, etc.) exceot blackout. To me the slightly longer recharge is worth it.

It refreshes the return point, but presumably you could just kite somewhat back to place it every time.
