The main difference is the E/Mo doesn't have the healing output that monks do while the D/Mo can match the Mo primary and even exceed it (especially BL prots). As for survivability, no one has played the D/Mo enough to make that call as we know how things were when BL prots became known and how it was written off as inferior to running boon prots.

Let me see the D/Mo has a higher or at minimum equal (depending on the set / circumstances) armor to monks. D/Mo has a higher base health. Its healing output slightly exceeds that of BL prots. In terms of handling hexes and conditions, thats why monking duties are also spread out across to utility roles like the expel hexes mesmer, draw conditions guy who is in better position to perform them.

I'd like someone to run the numbers and explain how the D/Mo is inferior in survivability to they typical Mo/Me.

It can't kite as well because for every heal it makes it has to cast an enchantment. 1.75 seconds to .75 seconds, on top of another 1 second cast signet makes things messy. Get a warrior in your face and all of a sudden you're in trouble. You also have pretty gay cast time on your healing, and a dshot/dchop w or r is going to make your life hell.

Boon prots have mostly .25 second casts, BL's have higher heal/time efficancy.

The cast time of a D/Mo is 1/4 second for the elite enchantment + aftercast time + 1 second signet time.... thats still less time and more energy efficient than the 2 second signet of devotion cast.

I don't think the D/Mo healer is that good. You spend a lot of time putting up Pious Renewal and taking it down again, which gives some energy and enchants for Signet of Piety but doesn't have any practical effect. Imbue Health is nice, no question, but the Protection stuff really isn't that hot. You already need to spec Earth Prayers and Mysticism to make this guy work, Mysticism very highly - you basically get 9-10 ranks in Protection, without any Divine Favor. RoF and Mend are ok without Divine, but they aren't exactly hot skills. RoF is nice in that you can cast it on yourself for free, but besides that it's really not that good. Imbue Health is nice, and really the attractive part of this character. The Signet of Piety part is really fragile, too, if you get hit by an enchant removal you lose the Signet, which is basically your entire build.

I think people will run it in PvE as an alternative healer, but I think it'll prove to be weak. While he will sit there spamming indefinitely, his skills really aren't all that sweet.

Peace,
-CxE

Zealous Benediction is my biggest pick for changing the metagame. I foresee monk backlines with a BL Prot and a ZB Prot all over the place one Nightfall is out.

It's the most efficient heal monks have and it is in the best monk attribute. It helps cover the biggest problem pure prot monks have, which is the lack of bulk heals. Factions forced prot monks to spec into healing for Gift of Health. You don't need to do that any longer. Just go pure prot, get a better Reversal, a better Guardian, a more efficient Spirit Bond and Dismiss Condition and while you're at it grab this amazing spike and pressure heal. (High-spec Reversal -> This = excellent anti-spike.) And it shines the most when playing pressure teams like KGYUway where you can frequently use it for free and save people from the brink of death. It's like having the best of all worlds.

I didn't get a chance to test it out myself this weekend but from what I've been told it works just as well in practice as it does in theory. Tell your monks to prepare. Boon Prot is on the way out, ZB Prot is on the way in. ZB Prot and BL Prot -- the future metagame.
