Ah, it took me two days to realize how to use my build and got my first gladiator point (i got 11 now btw), the best way is to play with a cool head, watch how others play and react to it. when you lose, do a replay in your head and think about your skills in hand, and jump in again.

When you are able to control your eager to kill your opponent and think, I think you will be ready to get consecutive win streak.

Take the Blessed Light Monk premade and replace Protective Spirit with Guardian. That's also an easy win.

WTF is with random arena anyways? I thought this game was about SKILL, not RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOing being "lucky" enough to get a group of people who know what they are doing and have a large enough attention span to actually stay it out for five wins...

All I want to do is try HA for the weekend event, but I can't even make it through RA... Not because of my build, not because I lack UB3R SK1LLZ, but mostly because teams fall apart just as quickly as they are thrown together...

I've been up to three flawless vitories in a row, things are looking great, then bam monk leaves... Ok new team, doing well again, oh wait another quitter.

Think of the people you're screwing over every time you quit on your team! Oh and I'm sure I'll be flammed and called every form of a "noob" there is, but I know I'm doing my job and I know I'm running a decent build. Random Arena is utter bullshit, and goes against everything this game is supposed to be about.
Post your Skills and Attributes.

Default Former noob confessions

Until very ercently I was a noob.

Part of what sent me down the road to noobdom is the current selection of premade builds. I know I know, they are good. But from my experience at the time I never would have known it.

The first one I tried was the shock axe warrior. This is considered the template of current warrior builds. The standard by which every other warrior build is measured. And I lost horribly with it every time. One fight I remember vivdly an enemy mesmer who didnt want to be bothered with me put imagined burden on me. One little hex and I was useless. Of course in every match there were people waiting with stances and riposte, blind, something called spiteful spirit, weakness, and all manner of other things they could do to make me totally worthless.

As bad as that was there were a number of mysterious things that the enemy could do to themselves like wards against melee and dark bonds and protective spirits and lifebonds that made my attacks seem like so many mosquito bites. So I came to the conclusion that seemed logical after a couple of frustrationg hours.

Whoever made up that gimped build was high or a noob and the build was absolute hogwash I don't care how many supposed 'experts' claimed otherwise.

I thought a necro might be more to my style of play and so I chose the tainted ally for a while. What??? How do I do damage with this thing? How come every time I try to ressurect someone it gets interrupted? What kind of trash build is this?

So after a few hours of trying these builds i'm convinced that two entire classes are useless. After all if the 'tainted meatball' is the best necro build anyone can come up with why bother with it? If there are 50,000 ways to make a warrior useless and you have to slog away at enemies for minutes building up adreniline for a big attack that gets cancelled by reversal of fortune while they are unloading their best attacks at will from the start what good is that?

Eventually i found guildwiki and the builds there. Wow! I was in heaven! All manner of quirky spikes, builds that could do 'everything'... Who needs a crummy blindbot with extinghish and ether prodigy when youi could run a build with 7 spike damage spells and a res sig? Or better yet an earth elemental with kinetic armor AND armor of earth that can spam stone daggers at hapless foes!

My beginning of understanding came after playing my latest warrior build idea. the perfect warrior. A mix of adrenalin skills and energy skills, a decent spike, a hex removal skill, condition removal skill, and speed increase. I had it all and this time i was going to go in and show people what a REAL warrior could do.

While i was casting my condition removal to get unblinded the enemy was running away. no problem thats why i have sprint. Hah i catch up and..ugh blind again. later on up comes empathy. No problem, I cast remove hex. while I'm casting it 2 other hexes are applied. I end up removing imagined burden instead.

SO after that I was convinced for a couple of weeks that melee classes were simply underpowered noob garbage and classes like mesmer and elementalists and especially those doggone healing monks were simply out of balance. what's a warrior to do after all faced with all of that? but in the back of my mind something was nagging at me. finally i realized its simple.

I can't do it all.

Sure i can take a hex removing skill with my warrior and condition removal too. but i cant do it better than a teammate with a monk could, or that blindbot with extinguish can. I certainly cant keep myself free of powerful hexes better than a ranger targetting that mesmer or necro with a combination of interrups and debilitating shot could.

It all fell into place then. The reason the shock axe has no counters vs a simple hex or blindness is becuase there is no really good way for him or her to counter those things anyhow. So the build focuses on doing what it can do and relies on the rest of the team to provide for what it can't.

They say when the student is ready the teacher will appear and shortly after that I found this post: http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10028434 and the wonderful builds there. Builds that do a lot without trying to do too much, do what they do extremely well, and builds that can kick some serious tail in team situations. Unlocking what is needed for those exact builds is a great place to start for Passing the RA. I've had good streaks with the assassin, ranger, and mesmer builds there and I even plan to go back and try the shock axe again soon and see how it goes.

Anyhow I don't know if that helps any but it sounds like maybe you were getting to the same place i was of being frustrated with the premade builds and the ones you'll see reccomended over and over in forums like this.

Good luck with the RA!
