The only advice I give to new pvpers is not to limit yourself. As frowned upon as W/Mos are, they a re great on a random team, if they know what they're doing. Mending is, however, not an option unless you are bringing enough for the whole class.

Don't limit yourself. After you've played all the W/Mo possibilities you want to, try W/E. W/Me, W/N, etc. After you've "mastered" the warrior, try monking, try ele. Back in the day, being able to play almost any build given to you would get you into the best HA teams and the best guilds. Unfortunately, HA is filled with vim and smite trash, and GVG is filled with...smite trash. It really depends on how "clean" you want your reputation to be. If you want to iway all your fame, enjoy being hated by the good players. Spike is looked down upon, but it's a good way for new players to learn placement stretagies, especially in gvg.

Practice, practice, practice. You won't get good overnight. The more you play a build, the better you get at it.

Even though it sounds like this specific person has decided to not go into PVP I would like to give a plug for my guild (after all several people have suggested it already)

XoO is a great guild that will teach new players the ins and outs of GvG. I have learned quite a bit from them myself. The best way to describe the guild is that we expect excellence out of our members and understand we all make mistakes. This means when you make a mistake in a match people (usually the officers) will tell you what you should have done. This will improve your game play by understanding what the right play is. But at the same time you will not be ridiculed for making a mistake, we all do it and we all need to learn from them. I would suggest OoX to anyone who finds themselves in the same situation as this poster. OoX is a division of XoO that is called boot camp, or just ox. This division exists to teach new members how to GVG.

However, I would like to state up front PVE toons are not allowed in GVG. There are exceptions to this rule but they are rare to say the least. The toon given in this post, for example, would not be allowed into a GVG match. If you are unwilling to create a PVP character it is with great disappointment that I have to suggest you find a different guild.

I just don't like pvp. I enjoy pve, and that's good enough for me. One day I might take interes in pvp, but probably not.

hey Xoo sounds like an awsoem guild. i recently left a guild, need to get around to removing it from my profile here. but my charactor name remains the same

hate to sound like a begger but i really have been looking for a large guild that will let me play in PvP without me being able to flash a wolf.

i started playing guild wars about 3 months ago
got vent/ts and a mic (a must for some guilds )
would be tight if you can manage an invite my way or link me to the sign up site.

what sort of PvE character class would be most easy to get going for PvP?

I would think monk. as they are always needed. or perhaps ritualist?

the cool thing about monks are that almost all their armors rock... i dont know...

Mo/A sounds interesting... with dabbling in healing and dagger mastery. could be a funny combo.

pve monks are actually very difficult to incorporate into any high level pvp, because equiping a pve monk for pvp is the most expensive. 2x superior vigor, 2x armor sets, +5 energy sword, -5 energy sword, 2x +30 sword pommel, and other assorted stuff. the final price tag for a basic setup is over 200 platinums.

just go with pvp chars for now.

I was asking Lawnmower if he's seen it, since he seems to be blowing off half the posts here.

I've speant more than 200k equipping a pvp warrior, I'd say warriors are more expensive if you are doing 2 armor sets. If you are going to have the three weapon sets of zealous/vampiric/elemental of fortitude. The ones you can get as greens are on average 20k, you have to buy zealous and elemental swords of fortitude and the the fortitude hilts alone are about 50k last time I checked. Weapons alone will come to more than the monk set up.

Ok so I have 6 char slots and 4 are used for PvP. Just easier to keep a char I use alot rolled up, Like a CG Ranger, a Boon Prot, and an Assassin, but anyway, I play a Ranger 95% of the time in PvE, and about 50% of the time in PvP, I roll a PvP most of the time in PvP even though my PvE ranger is loased up with lots of stuff, including every elite skill.

Yes, RA is a cluster and you dont win much, bah so what, Its a GREAT place to test builds, roll a PvP Warrior and take him there, see what skills, armors and weapons combos work best. Test a build, re-roll, test, reroll, find out what works best for your task on the team. You wanna be a KD Warrior, roll one up, test it in RA, BEFORE you buy evrything you THINK you need and put it on your PvE guy, you can avoid expensive mistakes that way. Thats what I did. I love playin with my main Ranger too, but hes not set up for EVERY PvP build, and to do so would be expensive and take up lots of storage space.

I've never been in XoO, but I have PvPed with them, AB, TA and HA, good peoples there, voice chat is a must, you can learn more faster that way, they have channels, they form starter groups, they do things well there from what I hear.

Bottom line, PvP is not a fashion show, nor is it a "mine sword is green yours is not" playground show and tell contest. Its about winning. If you just wanna be a Warrior, learn alot of builds for him. People are not always looking for Wammos, the need Shock warriors, KD warriors, freaking IWAY's, whatever, ect. yes its sometime a grind to RA for 2 hours, but sometimes it can be fun to play and different proff in an odd build just to see waht it can do. Practice is the key.

Hey I'm rank2 and have 2 glad points, and LOVE to PvP, ya I dont win alot but I have fun. I think i'm the king of 8 or 9 wins in a row then loose.

I was under the impression that XoO was a European guild. Is it possible, or worthwhile, for Americans to join?

If you don't like RA or get mad at it, don't think you're the only one. I stopped going there because of the number of dumbasses who can't go after called targets. Once in a match my wammo went after a Monk using Shield of Judgement in front of this guy, and used Smite and Spear of Light, even Bane Signet, and the dumbass continues to attack despite the knockdowns from SoJ. Some people are just plain stupid. It's rare to get on a smart team. Even TA with "organized" PUGS they suck more than a good RA team.

If you have Factions, go to Fort Aspenwood. That's always fun and good for new PvPers.

XoO has divisions that cover every time zone (multiple us teams, one euro team, and one pacific team) and every interest (pve, hoh, gvg, and mixed). XoO is a great guild and a great organization and I strongly recommend it to anyone -- beginner or not, XoO is not just a training guild, but rather it is a friendly, laid back guild that is open to anyone and focused on getting better and playing at the highest level they can.

Equipping a PvE char for PvP is going to be expensive if you're serious about it. And if you want to do it while still looking good (ie. 15k armors, rare skinned weapons, etc.) you can easily run yourself into the millions for just one character. Consider a warrior: you need at least 3 of every weapon type and multiple perfect shields. Assume you pay an average of 100k per weapon+mods, which costs you a total of 900k. Shields can run you anywhere from 20k for a basic 5/30 exalted, or 200k+ for specialized shields like +30hp, +10 armor vs. X.

XoO is a good place to start, but expect to have alliance/guild chat off most of the time - being open to anyone has its advantages and disadvantages.

Buy high req weapons or greens. I got a 15^50 marble hammer to finish my hammer set, req 12 - 2k. Vampiric sword? Get Victos blade, it's very cheap now. Hell, even a req 13 Chaos Axe, 15^50 can be nabbed for under 30k. On a PvP character, you'll never notice the high req since you never drop your weapon mastery below 13, and thats only when you swap to a minor.

THe thread seems to have changed a bit. I am in a fairly high ranked guild atm(h200s and clibming) and I see no problem with running major vigors adn 29 hps mods; 14 over 50s are fine by me as well. Thats a lot of saved money for little benefit. Furthermore, the weapon/armor swaps that are nearly optimal grant more benefit in my opinion than running a pvp char. Also, if it makes you happy, you will likely learn more. This is all not even mentioning that new players are not really anywhere near a situation where the benefits of such extensive gear will even be needed or used properly. A slow build is always nice on teh gear as I find you appreciate and learn its benefits better.
