I recommend a paragon with some defensive shouts, and wild throw ;p way better that wild blow.

I'm slowly creating a set of tactics that can consistantly win even if you're a total noob. Basically it is all about know the priorities on each map and realizing when taking a death or 3 isn't that big of a deal. The death penalty is so laughable that slow developing strategies stand a chance against front loaded stragies resulting in quick deaths.

As with everything in guildwars, you can win by controlling the game, gaining small advantages and easily closing with those advantages. The best feeling in HvH is having an opponent with more points, but zero shrines realize that they might as well resign because you'll burn them regardless of what more they make.

I'm sure there are easier ways to play with uber builds, but I always prefer a beautiful tactical move which has the opponent wondering what happened.

Sometimes, its even more fun to let your opponent get all the cap points, and still destroy them.

So far i've had about 12 wins and only 1 loss.. So i'm liking the hero battles
Things i've noticed is that Jin works very nicely as a trapper.. although you won't notice this until some poor bugger tries to kite and then gets a face full of flame/dust/spiked trap, Olias is amazing as a tainted flesh necro with some wells (Well of suffering is nice, AI doesn't detect it as AoE damage and just stands there spamming heals)..

The only thing i lack is a decent monk build.. anyone got any ideas?
Dunkoro doesn't seem to understand the concept of energy management.

Why play these hero battles when you can do the same thing in HA, while getting more faction AND fame for it?

Help me anet, I'm confused.

I can not seem to find the Hero Battles Arena. It does not show up on my map in the PVP area at all. Any suggestions?

Hero battles can be found by talking to a guy in the Temple of Balth.

Hero battles are fun in and of themselves and are a more interesting game type than most of Tombs. Think of HvH as a scaled down alliance battle where movement and multiple control points are a factor. Tombs only has two interesting maps, the relic runs, which focus something other than single point control. You can't be consistantly successful at HvH if you have a single control point or kill first mentality. HvH allows me to force splits, create mismatches and put people in lose-lose positions just like QQ or WM can does in GvG. I've hardly reached the point of being good let alone great, but I win most matches and enjoy many more interesting matches.

I'm a complete Johnny-- I enjoy building a complicate web which ends and a climatic moment where the opponent realizes that /resign is his best option. How you build that web varies from match to match and opponent, which is the fun of it. I never thought I'd enjoy 1v1 action, but the maps are fun enough to make up for the stupidity of NPCs and the legions of inexperienced players. Real PvP would be loads of fun on those maps. Some people pooh-pooh the side altars, but these people must forget the lengths GvG groups go through to get a "mere" 10% morale boost or to kill a few archers.

I have to agree. I enjoy useing strategy to force splits by the other players. Sending one hero to the shrine like a toucher, and keeping 2 high defense heros( memser and monk) and a good offense one(rampager thumper works well) at the center has won my alot of games. knwoing what shrine is most important on each map and which one can be ingored is also good.

certian teams benifit more from certian henchies and shirnes. the necromamcer mercenary adds just that little bit too much to deal with when you have a degen team. The mending shrines alow you to use your vamp mods freely.

I always put mantra of recall on them, if they forget to keep it up, u can do it yourself with one simple click. Too bad its an elite. I don't know if channeling helps there, i never played HvH so I can't tell if it's crowded all the time. Power drain is also quite OK, it's an interrupt at the same time. Inspired hex is also your best friend...

The basis for my prot. monk consists of these skills:
Reversal of Fortune
Prot. spirit
Inspired hex
Mantra of recall {E}
Mend condition
Power Drain

I put Inspiration magic on 7 or 8 and i use a prot. headpiece+sup. rune and a minor divine favor rune
As for the rest, i don't know the HvH arenas, but with those 6 skills u have quite an energy efficient, easy to use monk already.

I was having the same problems. I managed to solve it by creating a PvP character, and when I then talked to a Priest of Balthazar at the Great Temple of Balthazar, Hero Battle Arena was unlocked.

Oh, that would make sense. I don't have any PVP only characters. Thanks, I'll try that.

I've got a build I estimate I've played with about 50 times, with 2 losses. It does well against a variety of builds, including minion masters, 2Mo/2Rampage thumpers, 3 Searing Flames, degen and all sorts of mixes. Would you guys be interested in a video/build?

Argh that's stupid. I have unlocked all the heroes in PvE and realized after it didn't unlock the hero Battles. I did talk to all the priest of the temple: nothing. And I really don't feel like buying an extra-slot just to be able to create a PvP char and hopefully unlock it.

ANET, help!

Out of boredem, I tried IWAY + 1 para the other day, and it was pretty amazing.

Not sure whether I was amazed by how bad most of the players are or how IWAY are so ridiculously easy and efficient to farm faction with.

Anyway, the only time I lost was against some guy who actually spread blind like crazy and aegis spam on the monk (yea, aegis spam, wtf?). After that I put in 2 disrupt chop.

I am wondering why I continue to play this mode. Yes, it's more fun and less frustrating than RA for a quick match-up. Yes, I win nearly every time (which aint that fun really) and so have built up a lot of easy balth faction.

But where's the bloody reward? Where's the matchmaking? Even the stinky RA has Glad points to shoot for.

The PvEites know they are getting 'leet missions and other crud in a couple of months. Can we expect an update to HvH at that time? I fear I'll be bored silly of it by then.

Drekmonger, beginning to feel the same way. Tired of pwning noobs which makes a huge percentage of maps. It would really be nice to have a matching system or mini-ladder so I'm playing more good games even though it means losing more games.
