Default Hero Battles

With the release of Night Fall, came a new type of PvP. It is 2 teams, with 1 human player on each side, with 3 AI teammates. You can customize your AI buddies as much as you can customize yourself.

I personally am loving this type of PvP. It's a whole new strategy in itself. Spiking is the way to go in this type of PvP, as you just want to rack up as many kills as possible (20).

I can't wait till they add a title for this. Currently, it's a faction farming PvP type... and a time killer. But it's fun. I think this will add towards the Gladiator Title track, once they give it a title tracking.

I hope I'm not the only one who likes this type of PvP.

It is certainly much better than RA and is actually pretty fun and nice faction farming (300 for each win at the moment IIRC)

As you say, a really nice time killer

You don't gain gladiator points for every 10 wins or something there? I don't have NF, so I can't test myself.

Controlling 4 characters at once just sounds like way too much for me.

After I had unlocked 2 heros in PvE, I talked to the balth's faction guy in Temple of Balthazaar and he gave me a third and opened up the Hero Arena on the Battle Isles.

Loving it. im working on 6k balth faction for a third ranger so i can go tri touch ranger.
right now im running dual bullscharge sword warriors inturpt ranger and boon prot. works well except agaisnt SS or any mass hexing ranger, b/c my monk gets overpressured. alot of players are runnign dual monk builds
this cool thing about it is you can still spike one monk down by switching targets right before its time for an e-drain. or if the monkhas no real e manegment its easy to spike through defenses.

thsi is gonna be awsome cool oncei unlock a few more heros. I hope they add a ladder for this game type. would definantly play it.

its a bit over-rated, anything new is fun at first, lets see what it become sin the future, in my opinion..it lacks the adrenaline pump that HA and GvG provide, or even TA and RA.

From what I've played, it's one giant interrupt-fest. Bots do this extremely well. If you give your monk Power Drain and Leech Signet, he'll use both of them perfectly every time, gaining tons of free energy and doing a few interrupts. I played versus a team with 2 monk heroes, both with these two abilities, and it was extremely difficult to cast anything. These skills might be somewhat balanced with human players, because it takes concentration and attention to pull off, but with bots who can perfectly cast it on any enemy at any time, it's a little bit broken.

But other than that... pretty interesting. Ordering your heroes around and capping points is pretty cool, and I love how I get to control everything about my team without having to round up a bunch of other players.

I haven't tried it out yet, but this new arena does sound like a lot of fun.

I was hoping that, as per the rumors that were flying around a while back, that this new arena would be simply 1v1, but this does sound a lot more interesting. There seems to be a lot more strategy involved in choosing your heroes and their respective builds and I'm looking forward to it.

Can be quite fun when the other person knows what they are doing, and you have to make tactical splits, commanding your heroes to capture points etc. Unfortunately the average skill level seems to be fairly low (a lot of players just bring in their pve builds), and typically ends up being an ai slugfest which gets old fast. The constant rage quitting and gimped rewards means its not even a good place to earn faction - it is possible to win and get 0 faction.

After playing this type of battle for a while, I have to say its less about fighting and more about surviving until you cap all the check points.

Makes for really tedious and unrewarding gameplay. I don't really have any interest in tag. If they change the cap rewards I will play them again.

Is Hero Battle more fun than Heroway in Heroes Ascent?

This battle require alot of critical moment decision making.

After awhile though, I can feel this is just faction farming.

What one would face in these battles:

Fundamental understanding of how builds work together, and what/why/how is it a good build.
Fast and accurate analyse of opponent build.
Observation of surrounding (entire map).
Decision making of when where what to split.
Above with all by yourself.

I don't think spike is very good here. Pressure > spike, interrupt ftw. Dual monk also suffer quite alot here in my opinion (then again, this depend on the build against each other). I have quite a few really tough battle, where neither of us know who will win until the last point.

sounds like bragging but not really: I have played it over 50 (about 35k faction gain, though quite a few times opponent quit before 20 points) times over the course of few hours a day. I have lost 5 times.

2 times when I just start. (as a newb)
1 time out of wrong decision making.
1 time missed out a critical movement observation on my opponent.
1 time with huge build disadvantage.

I see most people try to use dual monks, but it was always the 1 monk team that gave me trouble.

Most people think there is only 1 or 2 critical cap point, which is compeltely wrong. The strategy/tactic at the moment of start plays a critical role.

Most people don't know to sneak off a split in mid battle to cap some critical points.

Most people simply do not use their hero to their potential.

Some people think it is all about capping. Not true. It is all about movement of the battle (interception course, guarding position, moment and place of the battle). Then it will come down to builds.

Some people think having alot of pets will help. We know where this is going.
-------------

I hope the above help some newer players.

One of the fundamental truths of 4v4 imo

The strongest 4v4 teams only ever have one monk.

I think it probably lacks the humiliation factor of heroway HA, where some poor high ranked group gets owned by bots, but is, imo, a little more interesting strategically than the old "interrupt the ghost" game

Once a proper meta develops and players start to understand the mechanics of hero manipulation and the importance of shrines it might become pretty interesting indeed, albeit never more than an entertaining time filler

I think Hero Battles definately have the potential for some great strategy. But, if it is to ever become more than a glorified random arena, they need to make it more competitive in nature. They should either make it tournament style like HA with an end goal. Or they should somehow make a title system for it. Right now it is fun, but pointless at the same time.

There is no strategy. Roll a shove sin, take two monk heroes and a thumper hero. Then, attack the enemy monk.

Two monk teams are pretty bad. They lack damage you need in a 4on4. I can safely say that I haven't lost to a 2 monk team yet. In fact, it's really hard to lose if you've had any PvP experience at all. Most players are probably PvE players who bring in the worst possible skills and have never seen an adrenal "spike" (I am loathed to call my hero adrenal spike a true spike). Their idea of a Warrior is a bunch of stances with dolyak sig and healing hands.

Right now, Hero battles have the best faction rates. 500 per win, every 5-7 minutes. Even GvGs can't top that. This is what I do now when I'm not GvGing or making progress in the campaign. It's better than RA because of the increased faction and the amount of control of your heroes.
