While it is painful to read posts by Ms. Gaile which do a great job of filling the white box but convey next to nothing, I am fully aware of the requirements that the PR position must satisfy. What is unnecessary though are the smilies that she arrogantly peppers each reply with, as if the mood is just bells and sunshine. Gaile is very pro at what she does--she ignores critical posts and replies with smilies to any post that could be in her defense. This includes replying to posts that do nothing more but thank her for posting and thank her for continuing to grace the PR position line on the staff list.

I frankly don't care about the PvE aspect of the game (except cool looking armor) and thus I refrain from posting there. I DO care about the Heroes' Ascent area...which is why I find smilies ridiculous from PR. Akin to spitting on our faces.

"Oh, I know you guys are all down, but here, have a smiley because we're thinking about changes! "

"Oh I'm so sorry to hear about these flamers, but I guess we have to do what we have to do! "

"Yes, I have conveyed my thoughts to the development team, but we ended up going back to discussing the finer differences between silver and white dye! "
I am naturally a cheerful person, and in order to make sure that readers of my posts understand that many things I say are said with a smile, such a teasing a poster in this very forum in what I hope was clearly a friendly way (and yes, I'm allowed to do that by all that's right and holy) I do use smilies.

I learned to do that long ago, when I was moderator and administrator for a very large (the largest in the world at the time) fansite network. I found that if you posted straight text, the difficulty of discerning tone in the text made it challenging to get across just the right message. I learned, too, that I post often at length, and the visuals break up the text. I learned, finally, that to post without some sort of "indication of mood" was akin to speaking roboticly, or in a monotone. Such are the gifts of veterancy, and acquiring forum savvy, and having the confidence to do my own thing, even whilst knowing that somewhere, on some forum, there's a person petty enough to post about my use of emoticons, and small-minded enough to try to imply that my professionalism is to be questioned because of the cheerful use of a bloomin' or or .

You can trivialize what I bring to this forum, but if you do, you are extremly short-sighted and incredibly unwise. ArenaNet relies upon me, as they have for nearly six years, in manifold and meaningful ways. I, in turn, give the company and the team more than is expected, and oftentimes more than I should. For example, my taking the time to answer your insulting post is truly above and beyond.

Ooops, I seem to have used a few smilies. But why the heck not? I am smiling as I type, and use the emoticon to convey my, in fact, literal presentation of this post seems entirely appropriate.

Now, before you tell me what I am, and how I do my job, learn what my job is, and what it is not. First, check the staff list to which you so astutely (but incorrectly) point. Secondly, pull my recent chat history, and tell me if I have not responded much more often to the critical posts than kudos. Which, when you think about it, is a shame, that those who are positive get less interaction and those who are negative get more. Come to think of it, that's something that I should be more mindful of, for we run the risk of Screaming Child Syndrome, which is not good for society (or forum society in this case). Now, lastly, do the forum members a favour and stop attacking the person who is here to do her best to interact, listen, respond, relay, and generally help in the many ways that she is able to do so. Because with enough of the nonsense that you're dishing out, even more of the dev team is going to stop reading this forum.

Be grateful for what you have, and considerate of what you are getting. But first of all, educate yourself before you take potshots, because buddy, you're aim is worse than anything I've seen from any Level 1.

A definite gg no re pwnage move by PR, yes. I'm level 1 too? What does that mean?

I got owned, of course. However, I have been owned by ANet many times before--biggest "ownage" occured when 8v8 was removed, heroes were instituted to fill the slots of those dissatisfied and a lever was added to scarred earth to account for exciting new map changes promised.

Ms. Gaile is right!

I should not have posted insulting material with regard to Ms. Gaile's use of forum emoticons.

I should not have made blatant, sudden and uninformed generalizations about Ms. Gaile's job position or of her level of involvement in matters of the Guild Wars community.

I should not have given her so many opportunities to make justifiable claims about my lack of education with regard to all matters I'm even trying to comment on.

To use a retort coined by the great William Hung, I have no regrets at all! Why would I even bother to do research about Ms. Gaile's job description, her PERSONAL work history (past and present) and of every chat log recorded?

Why would I bother to educate myself about a person who refuses to educate themselves about the state of the Heroes' Ascent?

If I were uneducated, if I had no interest in learning, discussing, and sharing with players and with the other devs about HA, would I be sitting here reading the forums --amidst them your flames and the flames of others (some strangely making a reappearance!) -- at Midnight on a Saturday night?

I assure you I do have a life. And I assure you that some part of that life is dedicated to Guild Wars and all facets of the game and all parts of the community of players. It's insulting to try, and find that by making the effort, one is condemned for... not trying?

We could be any other game company and let you guys talk all you want and never respond and never give a flying leap what you have to say: Good, bad, or indifferent. We could keep a stately distance from those who play. But we're not. And we don't. And I most provably do not.

I was playing Heroes' Ascent when it was Tombs. I was playing Tombs before you had even heard of Guild Wars, before it was, in fact, even called Tombs. Why not stop the assumptions, for they surely were regretably inaccurate in the earlier post. How about you cut me some slack? Even better, how about you give some credit for effort, persistance, dedication, communication and obvious caring?

I am disappointed in how folks are treating Gaile here, because honestly it is a rare thing in the software world where a member of the company bothers to spend as much time talking to users on forums and trying to address questions as much as Gaile does. I am embarassed by how we must look to Gaile and other members of ANet. GuildWarsGuru is an Elite Fansite and because of that we get this special attention from Gaile and Alex and others on the Dev team. We have venues for people to make suggestions here on the forums. We have venues for people to address concerns. I am going to Anet in three weeks and I plan on bringing up a lot of the more pressing ones at that time.

Believe it or not ANet knows what is going on in HA, probably better than most people posting here. I applaud them for taking the time to really study the problem and come up with a good solution. So many people have short memories in Guild Wars it seems - HA was not perfect before the 6v6 change. You ever consider that maybe they are trying to address multiple issues now to make it even better than it was before? You ever consider that perhaps things that none of us can contemplate are going to be put into play? ANet is probably the most responsive gaming company out there - and yet you spit in their face as they work hard to make things better than they were before, just because you are so stuck in a rut with the way things used to be?

I'm sorry but jumping all over Gaile about something when you have maybe 10% of the overall picture is just pointless and immature. I just hope that Gaile doesn't think everyone on our site is like the 1% who are flaming here.
