Shield bash is to shutdown the attack skill of an attacker. Who cares about damage.

Precisely. As junior said, shield bash is in strength. If you're only running 10 tactics for balanced stance, running shield bash isn't as efficient to your attribute scaling as riposte is.

As for the 10 tact thing, I was referring to a build someone posted previously that had 10 points in tactics (which is overdoing it, but at least you get to use a max shield).

Restore Condition and Zealous Benediction is the way to go here.

Yeah, it always bothered me too. I'm no kind of monk at all really, but on the rare occasions I monked during ladder locks and such I never had any problems running PD at all, maybe its because I've played mesmer and interrupt ranger alot, idk. Necros and eles are really easy bait for this, as they have long cast times and stand around waving their arms around for ages while casting.

I think that you're best option will be a prophecies only RC Prot...
with something like this:

14 Protection Prayers
11 Divine Favour
8 Inspiration Magic

Reversal of Fortune
Guardian
Protective Spirit
Drain Enchantment
Inspire Hex
Restore Conditions{E}
Contemplation of Purity
Res Sig(or some sort of hard res if you insist)

You miss the fact that it's gift of health that makes those prot bars work (using a non-energy management elite).

The only monk bars you can consider 'runnable' in a 2-monk backline GvG these days with only owning prophecies is some sort of old school boon prot or a heal monk.

Options are severely limited as a Prophecies only Monk...

Boon Prots aren't as viable anymore due to all the nerfs to that build. WoH is rarely seen a skillbar as there are many elites better than it, like ZB or LoD. RC isn't the best idea as there is no real heal on that bar, as Gift of Health is Factions...

If you really want to be competitive, this leaves you with 2 choices really:
1) Get all the guildies together and buy that Monk Factions and/or Nightfall
2) Say sorry and grab another Monk

There's still a few brave Offering of Blood Boon Prots doing the rounds - I've seen one (whose name I've forgotten) guesting fairly frequently in GvG matches and doing OK, though I'll confess I haven't seen him since Avatar of Grenth got as big as it has.

...It's certainly still viable* for TA or even HA, I'd say. Ironically it'd be worse in RA since everyone there's conditioned to do nothing but train the monk.
