Default When to apply Deep Wound

A couple of strategy questions about deep wound:

1) In general should one apply deep wound on a foe as soon as possible?

2) Is there any situation where one should hold off on applying deep wound until the end of an attack chain (such as adrenlaine chain or sin chain)?

Thanks for your advice.

deep wound is normally used for spikes thus why most builds have it in there.

no deepwound shouldnt be held off till the last skill because u have to hit them again to apply the deepwound.

There's 2 reasons to deep wound:
1) healing reduction
2) health reduction

In terms of constant pressure, then "as soon as it recharges" applies, so healing isn't as effective.
In terms of spike, then its "3-2-1", for the sudden hp reduction.

With that said any monkey can spam a skill the second it's recharged.
It takes skill to look for the oppurtune moment, to perhaps lul the target into beleiving this is all the dmg you can do, and then catch them with deep wound when a kill is certain.

In terms of chains, it almost makes sense to make it 2nd to last with the last being a "fast" skill, like critical chop. This way the big dmg suddenly happens at the end, with the deep wound and fast hit coming very close together. Now one could argue that applying it first helps get around monk responses, thru healing reduction, but i dont think it matters at that point where in the chain deep wound is applied because if the monk is going to be able to spot it and react that quickly then chances are good your not taking the target down this time.

Depends on wether the extra damage of the skill (if any) is applied before, or afther the deep wound. I'm not sure, but I think there are moves wich apply deep wound before the extra damage, or after it.

And since deep wound allso reduces healing, I think it's better to apply it early in the spike.

A monk proberly wont worry about someone untill there under 50 (unless there the only person under attack) so below 50% is gd imo ^^

Doesn't applying DW early in the spike chain increase the chance that it is removed before you can finish the spike?

Most adrenaline spikes I've been a part of had 2 sources of deep wound. Axes always apply deep wound first, hammers and swords apply it on their second hit, so the timing on the application will also be off... So if the first one is insta-drawn, another is usually there for backup. Also if the spike is drawn out and becomes a train (i.e. your target is on the brink of dying and he's snared so you frenzy in his face), your deep wound skills will recharge pretty quickly.

IMO, deep wound is the kill shot. Putting on a deep wound to someone you dont intend to kill in the next instant is a waste, (unless you are a dervish and can spam deep wounds about). It will likely get removed very quickly if you dont get a quick kill. As most non-dervish deep wounds are quite difficult/expensive to apply, they need to be put on imo with some care.

The old adrenaline spike used to put on multiple copies of deep wound at different times in the spike to make sure that even if the first one was removed the later one(s) would remain long enough to get the kill in.

Every build, including pressure builds, need some form of spike to kill. it is very difficult to construct a lethal spike without a deep wound, although it can be done of course.

Keep in mind that if you're applying degen along with the DW you don't even have to "trigger" it. The DW will take them to 1 and the degen will kill them instantly.

Most of deep wound logic has been said, but it's also a nice tactical panic button. Someone calls a deep wound and then recieves prot - makes for effective fake spikes or just plain pressure. If you have the luxury of redundant deep wounds, that is.
