The major mistake I think, is that many people go in pvp mode directly or to soon. or with wrong builds. Going in a mob is the same ignorance, you are just giving away points with your death. Wammo builds I leave for what they are, anyway these cannot cap as fast as I do, so why bother killing them, unless they are the last man standing.
Amen to that...

I really feel that AB is worse than RA. The w/n life transfer warrior is almost a common sight. Normally i think w/n= plague touch....but aye. The fact remains that if you got a group of 3 good players from your guild, you can just take a pug cuz those 3 will win you the game anyways.

Been a long time since I've done AB, but I do play RA for the laughs I can get at opponents bars. Blowing an entire energy pool on a ranger for rodgort's invocation is just wow. Just a few of my personal favorite amusements from RA:

- Endure pain on an IW mesmer. Yeah, that temporary 90 extra health for all of 7 seconds was really worth the skill slot and is going to save you....

- Armor of earth on an assassin. I've seen this combo more than once I am sad to report. A 30 to 40% movement penalty just makes too much sense on a class whose entire concept is based on mobility.

- Warrior with primal rage, flare, and power attack. 3 of the worst skills in the game packed conveniently into a single bar! Pure pwnage!

- Mo/W with healing hands, mending, healing breeze, bonneti's defense, 3 axe attack skills. Unfortnately, this scrub happened to be on my team and when I saw Mo/W I was hoping for a competent build using the secondary for shield bash or balanced stance or riposte skills. I had a lengthy discussion with this player after our team lost miserably and it was just futile as I tried to explain that his build didn't really do anything. He argued that the build ensured he was the last on his team to die, which wasn't even the case in the one match I was paired with him (he died twice before anyone else on my team did only to be rezzed to die again later). My 20 minutes wasted talking to this player convinces me that Ensign's quote is right:

"Don't argue with idiots. They bring you to their level and beat you with experience."

Players can be every bit as bad in RA, but you are probably right that the percentage of bad players is higher in AB ever since Nightfall came out. Life transfer is the universal "I'm a scrub" elite of choice. I have seen players using every primary class run this elite except for a monk. What are these players thinking? OMG, an elite skill that gives degen and regen at the same time!!! Seriously, PvP would be a lot better if it gave a "You fail." error message if you tried to enter a competitive arena, AB, HA, or GvG with certain skills like mending, life transfer, or mystic regen on your bar.

You dont wanna know what i just met. A w/n using that chillblains/signet of agony/plague touch combo. needless to say he was low on energy in no time.

RA is fun while the ladder is frozen....talking about frozen, i also saw the snowman yesterday (you know, that awfull premade anet made once). W/E with frozenburst...this one was using sword skills tho. And what about the almighty n/e fire elementalist (did he think consume corpse was worth the primary necromancer?)

In RA.... no idea.

In AB it almost makes sense because soul reaping goes nuts.

It was RA. And now im frustrated, cuz i dragged my team consisting of 1 healing burst monk (with etheral light, RoF and PS), 1 r/mo with poison arrow and ressurect, and 1 flare spammer through 8 matches, to see them all leeroy the 9th. SIGH. What selfrespecting monk uses healing burst in the first place?

Don't get me started about monks, PvP monking is one of the hardest things there is, still everyone thinks its easy

maybe thats a better way to put it, but most ppl collapse under stress. I monk myself, but preferable in PvE. I find it quite hard to shake off everything trying to kill me and to keep the team alive at the same time.

As a monk in top50 GvGs, i think i have right of speech. Anyways, i lost again (2 monk team, both got killed 9th match, and 1 mo/e kinetic armor got pwned 7th match), so im giving up RA for now. Ill get that 1 glad point i need tru TA. Sigh. I did spot another noob in the wild: a w/e with immolate....teeeheee!

I love my guilds rit team, we rarely die and constantly cap. Out of 20-30 battles we've lost 1 (which again we were constantly capping, and rarely died). Even had a couple compliments about our build

ABs are fun for me, because it is there that I make the most random builds and use them. Ususally i get pwnt, but I have fun in the process. If you told me my build was a piece of crap, I would most likely agree, because most of the ones I make are. But that is all I use mine for is fun. Ive seen all kinds of warriors using ele or necro skills that they use "when ppl kite", which also makes me lol. But I do have standard builds (ie. barrage, rit lord, aod sin) that I use also.

But I will say this: some ppl have no clue. I hate most monks that AB, because they either have builds they dont know how to use effectively, or they have really really bad builds. When I tell them this, they usually say something along the lines of "Monking is hard stfu." Which i will grant, having monked before, however a bad monk build=dead teammates.

That pic of the ele using res made me lol too, only I woke up my sleeping sister >.<

This whole thread is making me LMAO. On the other hand, there is also some hope. Yesterday I was home all day and I started AB-ing with some guildies. We are seasoned AB players but we met some really tough teams. When we walked out of the gate we met an other team of 4 and engaged it (we wanted the ele shrine and they were in the way). it took us the entire length of the game to take them out with 2 deaths on our side while we mostly just plough through everything. When the last guy finally dropped the kurzick counter hit 500 pts. The fight lasted for 20 minutes :P

Another time in saltspray beach I met a group with an insane trapper and a rit + assassin + domination mesmer. The other luxon teams were capping like crazy and they held the dragon roost, damn they held it good too. 8 players + minions couldn't kick them out of there and we lost due to the large numbers of deaths caused by people trying to beat them. When we left them alone they would just capture the res shrines and crawl back into their shelter.

Before I went to bed I did another game with some veteran GvG players, we worked our arse off to beat a more then decent group and if it wasn't for the excellent monking we would have been owned completely. I was able to get 3 spells off, as for the rest some domination mesmer had me by the nuts in quite a painful manner, couldn't kill him tho, he was too evasive .

Don't think I'm bragging, but I think it's a good proof of the presence of skilled players in AB matches. The longer factions is out the more interesting the matches get anyway, players get better at it too.

the reason kurzicks keep losing is becuase there are more of them. the larger number gives us a lower percentage of good players.

also it seems to me that the kurzicks win in ancestral and kaanai while the luxons win in the other places.

i cant say that monking in AB is very hard. i do it. it takes the luxons a sin, a warrior, and a searing flames ele to bring me down.

Hmm, maybe that explains the insane waining times sometimes as well, on the other hand, we don't loose that often actually

True, but thats the map that makes the difference, not the players. Besides u must be confusing kaanai with frontier, because at kaanai we have a hard time winning most of the time
