Default Help I am a PvP noob

Okay I bought this game like 2 years ago and didn't play it much because I got stuck on a mission (hah). I really should have gotten into the PvP then, because now everyone is good and I am way confused. I have been doing Random Arena and I have been told that I should stop queueing

Basically, lets say I am a Warrior/Monk. What should I do in a general random arena? I usually try to stay with my group and run up to the enemy first since I am a Warrior, then beat on them with Warrior abilities and throw Healing Breeze out every once in a while.

The thing that really confuses me is the enemy's info isn't laid out in a little window like my team's stuff is. So I have a difficult time keeping track of what classes the other team has and who I should be attacking. How do you keep track of this info?

Also any recommendations for abilities or anything? My abilities are Sever Artery, Pure Strike, Final Thrust, Healing Signet, Healing Breeze, Orison of Healing, Resurrect, Resurrection Signet.

1) Don't ever bring healing skills from the monk line.
2) Warriors shouldn't carry hard res.

A warriors job is to hit things, and hit them hard. Don't try to heal, exept maybe with a heal sig.
Bringing Sever Artery and not bringing Gash is just stupid.
Get an elite skill
Don't ever use a defensive elite on a warrior.

[skill]Mending Touch[/skill]

It's pretty much the only useful monk skill for a warrior to use in RA.

I went into Random Arena with all Warrior abilities and I seemed to do pretty good. After a few teams I got a good one and we got ten consecutive wins which transferred us to Team Arena where we lost horribly twice. I'm probably going to change my secondary profession anyone have any advice?

A warriors job is just to bash things. A good warrior is the best killing machine in guildwars, and a bar so geared towards defensive tanking is essentially a bad one. If you absolutely need a self heal (which is useful in RA), run Healing Signet.
Having the ability to deep wound is essential for a warriors, so I would run gash aswell as sever artery.
The only monk skills that works on a warrior bar is Mending Touch, because getting rid of blind/crippled/weakness is essential if you want to do damage.
Resurrection Signet is really the only valid form of rez in RA, and you should always have a rez sig.
Warriors are so much better at pressuring if they can attack faster, and most warrior bars (except some linebacking ones) generally have a stance that makes you attack faster, though these stances all have some drawbacks so they should be used intelligently.
Warrior bars are also much more effective if they have a running stance. Good players will just run away from you as soon as they see you coming (*remembers the old iQ "how to monk" video*), so a running stance is aswells recommended.
Warriors are also good because they can afford to bring something extra to the team, be it an extra knockdown (bull's strike) or an interupt (disrupting _____) or a snare ("You'are all alone!"), and these skills can usually be used offensively or defensively (to protect your monk or interupt an incoming lightning orb).
There are some really good skills that can be extremely dangerous when used by experienced players, but they are generally wasted skills on a newbie warriors bar (frenzy and bull's strike come to mind).

Just off the top of my head:

Crippling slash - gash - sun and moon sweep (or final thrust) - bull's strike - Frenzy - rush (or sprint) - Mending Touch (or Healing Signet, what you think is suitable) - Resurretion Signet.
Never use frenzy if you can't use rush to cancel it. Learn to observe what is happening around you and use your skills accordingly. If you see an ele turn towards you and cast a lightning orb, cancel you frenzy. Learn to recognize the auras that appear around your foes (aegis is the big blue circles, prot spirit has a unique animation).

Again this all takes practice, and you might find yourself getting pretty frustrated with RA because of all the anti-melee hexes there.
Good luck.

Quick Guide to PvP warrior:
Put 12 point in your weapon, take a weapon headpiece and a weapon rune (minor or sup, your choice.)

Don't even look at your secondary yet, pick either sword, axe, or hammer. Then pick 3 attack skills for your first three slots. Some suggested combos:
Sword: sever, gash, final
Axe (often runs with 2 attacks): Eviscerate, Executioners or Dismember, executioners.
Hammer: Devastating Hammer, Crushing Blow, Fierce (or Mighty) or Dev, Crushing, Heavy Blow

Go to slot 8, put a rez sig in it. When someone on your team dies use your rez sig ASAP. You want to be the first person to burn their rez sig.

Take an increased attack speed skill and a speed buff.
Good speed buffs:
Rush, Sprint, Dash (assassin skill)
Good IAS:
Flail, Frenzy (if someone tries to attack you while in frenzy activate your speed buff to end frenzy and stop taking double damage.)

You should have two slots left (maybe 3), these are your utility slots. Here is where you usually use your secondary. Figure out what you need. Remember, screw healing your teammates. You are a warrior, you stop damage by making the other team dead.

For self-healing:
Healing Signet (screw monk heals.)

Anti-condition:
Mending touch (plague touch is also an option, but mending touch is currently the best self-condition removal.

Extra damage:
Protectors strike, bull's strike

KD power:
Shock (ele), Bull's Strike

Teleporting
Shadow Prison (sin), Death's Charge(sin)

Self-Defense:
Shield Bash, Bonetti's Defense (use them right as an enemy physical starts hitting you, only take one.)

Snares:
Crip slash (can currently double as sever for sever, gash, final), You're all alone, axe rake

interrupts:
Distracting Blow, Disrupting chop, disrupting dagger (sin skill)

Stats:
Weapon: 12+2 or 12+4
Tactics: (if you have tactics skills) 10+1
Strength: Usually everything else 6+1 or 8+1 are good points

Deep wound
Deep wounds rock. Not only do they reduce your opponents max health by 20% (up to a max of 100), they apply that penalty to his current health too (for as long as the deep wound is on him.) When you see that grey chunk pop-up, your deep wound did that much damage.

Ra will let you practice pvp somewhat, but its not going to teach you a whole lot. Almost all serious pvp is about the whole teams skills and tactics working together. This doesn't happen in Ra of course. But if your just starting you can go there for a general idea of what your doing. find a guild that teaches PVP, Xoo is the 1st that comes to mind.

Everything else is a great guide, but after the recent buff to Mighty Blow there is no reason to run Fierce Blow, they now both do the same amount of damage, but Fierce Blow is conditional.

This here is the best advice you could give to a warrior starting PvP.

Awesome video. Amazing how we think it's kind of common knowledge, but 95%+ of the monks out there don't know these basic things :P

The video was pretty revolutionary for the mid to low level monks at the time. As far as I can remember, pre-kiting, pre-veiling, and hiding energy were all new concepts for most non high-end monks back then.
