Default New Guild Wars $100,000 Tournament

This was just posted on the GW main site:

http://www.guildwars.com/competitive...ompetitive.php

Lots of details there and a long read. Also Izzy just told us on IRC that the k-values for daily tournaments would be 25 and for montly it would be 50, so that should start getting more spread in the ladder.

This sounds great. Aside from all the focus on Hero Battles, I can't find a single thing in that article that I'm unhappy about.

Very Nice.

My intial reaction to the 32 guild cap was that it would be too small but on second thought, considering how difficult it would be for even an active guild to compete in these on a nightly basis, and the fact that guilds will be spread out over 3 tourneys per day... it should be fine, I think.

Sounds nice, but without extra changes to the game itself, it isn't going to do anything. But anyway, good to finally see the details.

Is it that way? I initially thought the article meant that the pool of X guilds would be broken down into tournament instances of 32. Then the automated 5 swiss round schedule would go to work and people would play a max of 8 matches (for 1/2 place.)

I read it as Sentao did.

You have an 'unlimited' amount of Automated Tournaments running at the same time, but people are divided in groups of 32.

What I wonder about though, assuming those 32 are grouped together based on ladder rank. Does the winner of the tournament for guilds rank 1-32 get the same points as the winner of the tournament for guilds rank 3000-3032?
Cause I wouldn't be suprised if people would make sure they get a low ladder ranking just to get the monthly qualifier points required..

I think the idea is good. I think the fact that 1v1 tournaments are on our regular gvg schedule is pretty damned annoying.

But it sure as hell is one way to force hero battles down someones throats and make them play an atrocious, only really played serious by like 10 people form of pvp. I mean seriously... 4v4 tournaments over this in my opinion. Not like it will change, it's just a shame that Anet convinced themselves HvH doesn't completely blow.

Spirits don't really work that well, as half of HvH is simply running. If you have a character or 2 that can beat a BoA sin solo, you basically beat every spirit + defense build there is out there, as you can simply run your heros around the map while you trail the sin around to prevent him from capping.

Hero Battles LOL.

This explains why GVG balance sucks - because they were wasting time doing hero battles.

Paying so much attention to Hero Battles is what really makes me lose a lot of faith in this game's ability to deliver. I just don't see why it should be such a deserving arena when you're basically cutting out the elements that defined Guild Wars PvP from the beginning. Apparently people, or the developers, are more interested in playing solo than the team-based game I enjoy.
