Default Same skill, different effect

From reading elsewhere in the forums (Im too lazy to reference my sources sry :P ) it seems to me that Anet are heading towards splitting skills up between PvE/PvP. Either they are introducing more skills that will be either PvE or PvP or we are going to get different skill descriptions and mechanics on the same skills for each type of game.

I'm not sure what to think about this. It has its good points and its bad. The first thing that springs to mind is the widening of the gap between pve and pvp players. A lot of people like to dabble in both and it may be very confusing to this type of player who uses a skill in one game that has different effects in the other.

On the other hand, it would allow Izzy et al to focus on PvP skill balancing without having to compromise with the PvE players ( the soul reaping nerf seems to be exactly this I think, they didn't want to upset the MMs of the PvE world by having no energy gain from spirits/undead ). This would lead to a more balanced and therefore a more diverse pvp arena.

Would this also be the start of a seperate game? Will we see Guild Wars - Competitive Editions in the shops?

There's a huge population of pve only players that want nothing more than pve and pvp to be split up balance-wise. I don't think as of this moment Anet has provided any indication they're planning on that, and I hope they don't. The only thing they're doing in that regard is coming out with some random new PvE only skills. These PvE only skills *might* be unerfed copies of skills that were rebalanced for PvP, but I doubt it.

Seperating PvP from E is only half the story. The other half is that these skills will probably scale with rank in some title, so PvE can have its precious grind.

I don't think it's that bad. I'd rather have them please the PvE crowd in a way that DOESN'T affect PvP, and PvE-only skills do that. PvP players in general don't want tons more skills added anyway as we all saw where that leads. And if they're skills you can level via ranks in X, well good for PvErs that will now feel they can 'level' past 20.

The only annoying things is that PvErs getting into PvP will all be like 'oh if only i could use that you'd be pwned!!!'. But meh, i can live with that.

They SHOULD split it up. It'd make everyone happier to have people that will specifically work on skills and balance (map balance!) keeping things together without thinking "Oh I hope this doesn't nerf this farming spot too much" "Oh the poor necros in Shing Jea Monestary will be might upset!"

If this means a seperate game. So be it.

If this means we have to pay monthly. So be it.

GvG is a GEM. No other game has anything remotely close. And ANet doesn't seem to realize it, and they don't seem to want to foster it.

Plz ANet let us bring Lightbringer's Signet in PvP! Please! Just make PvP char have rank 3 Lightbringer to make it fair for them too, if they want it higher they just have to level a PvE char like i do, they shouldn't have everything free!!!

You know it's coming.

I personally would have to go down the route of, just deal? There are two different aspects of the game that are tied together with the skill sets handed before us. Plenty of players play both portions of the game. I know annoying as it may be, one of your PvP skills may get nerfed due to someone farming some remote area of the game consistently. Well, only thing I could really think of doing at that point in time, is just get to know all the classes and be involved in more balanced builds. So when you lose your rank because of one skill being nerfed...you should really only blame yourself for not properly prepping? I think the dev's goals were probably to shoot for balance vs balance HA's and GvG's, and hopefully not skill exploitation, which is quote, unquote your fotm gimmicks. Although they are fun at times to run >
