With the inclusion of PVE-only skills, Anet is at least indirectly admitting that they've finally realized some skills are NOT good for both aspects of the game. Congrats on finding out on their own after more than 2 years of the community telling them so.

I actually am looking forward to the noob fest that World PvP will be in
2009-10 Right now PvP just isn't blanced very well, due mainly to the fact that Anet won't try new things like reworking Soul reaping and other aspects of the way the game works.

also I've seen games that were fairly well balanced and a good balnce will always split the players in half some saying it is enough of a nerf, and some saying its not. In this game after anet passes over a skill players will genrerally agree that the skill has been killed. that are examples of good blance such as shadow prison being upped to 10 energy and searing flames being shortened slightly in fire duration. small things like that can subtly alter how effective a skill is. And in guild wars its rarely one skill that inblanced but a who crew of them that acedently work too well together.

for instance BoA woudn't even be possible without black lotus strike.

Have you read the article?

The PvE only skills are skills such as the "Disarm trap" skill found in Venta cemetary.

That's nothing at all, it's a whiner's conclusion based on thin air.

We don't know anything about GW2's PvP complex other than UaX, less classes, skills and thus potentially better balance. All we can do is hope and do something else on the meanwhile for the release date is faar far away. Let's see if GW1's balance is going to improve. Friday is test day.

You didn't liberate shit btw.

We know that there will be jumping and silly playable races. I think that's enough to call it World of Charrcraft. I'm not judging it's PvP balance because there's no way to judge that for the next couple of years, but the loss of GW's unique style bugs me.

Trying to drive this back on topic: cougheyeofthenorthcough. The skills will more than likely end up just like it did when Nightfall and Factions were released. Like someone said before this, three motnhs of unbalanced meta while Anet says they're "fixing the problem", some skills we'll find in a body bag after getting hit by the nerf bat and some of them we'll speed out of rehab. *Clever metaphor. ftw* I doubt that they will introduce another form of PvP though, in this upcoming expansion. (Correct me if I'm wrong, I've only breezed over most of these articles and haven't even read the one in PC Gamer). At the very least I know that Anet stated that EN is definately an "expansion" to the other existing Guild Wars campaigns, and realistically seems a lot more focused on PvE considering it's supposed to be a transition game *apparently* to Guild Wars 2. (Even though GW2 comes out like, a year afterwards at least). The maps will either be annoying or acceptable, we'll probably just learn to deal with and still see more maps from other campaigns.

Of course this is all imo.

I am still curious about GW:EN PvP additions! Nothing official yet, man! just PvE, PvE, and more PvE in the news, they also added Hard Mode (100% PvE), and will be adding PvE only skills very soon!

This is the answer to the Original question:

5 overpowered skills that will completely change and be the metagame for 3 months. 2 skills that will commonly be used. After the 3 month period, some guy think up some incredibly lame gimmick using 5 more GW:EN skills, destroying HA yet again. All the other skills will have no use at all.

Gunna have to agree with most of the people. As they add a new flood of skills its going to get really lame really fast. Increasing number of gimmicks and maybe a really lame new guild hall map or two.

Its going to be gimmickways for more months :<

Don't think so, actually. For example, RaO changed the whole metagame at one point, but it wasn't gimmicky at all. Same for about all monk elites that came in NF.

The only gimmicky things after the release of NF were spiritway and paragonway. Grenth was just overpowered, but it wasn't a gimmick.

I'll be looking forward to that awesome tunnel map that makes Jade Isle look balanced in comparison.

On a side note, it'd be really cool if they had another map similar to druid's isle...

Well, indeed my original question is about it they actually will add something new in PvP; not just new maps or new skills, but new type of PvP.

We already know GW:EN will have some type of alliance or title for help the azuras, charrs, norns... maybe that could include some type of new alliance battle? or some new PvP merged with PvE like fighting with real people teams in a mission, or adding a new outpost to Battle Isles with a totally new type of PvP.

mm in my opinion Grenth train builds as well as a portion of the RaO meta was gimmicky so I disagree.

New Alliance Halls and rosters would be a pleasant addition... But as far as the official word goes, Almost everything in the expansion is geared for PvE adventurers. people that want high end content to expand their PvE experiences beyond the 3 campaigns.

PvP will get a spattering of new skills for them, but most of the new skills are more for PvE experience in that the association is tied to title tracks and character development. PvP has no such thing other then fame and gladiators.

The only other thing PvP may gain out of the expansion is a few new RA / TA arena maps... There was a rumor of a reworked Battle isle in the works, but that is probably false as I have not found even 1 secondary confirmation on it...

Maybe more RA maps, TA maps, GvG maps and possibly more AB maps? LoL maybe a PvP of 25v25... That would rock, it would remind me of Battlefield 2 for Xbox... God was I addicted to that game...

Yeah I don't know. Maybe this is a way to suprise us by not telling us anything...

I hope they have a great PvP surprise in GW:EN, at least one! (I know auto tournament is coming, no?, but is not related to GW:EN at all, I think!)

By that logic, Shock axe wars are also gimmicks.
