yeah, PvP is dying. All the good players are quitting, and now there's barely any left. I imagine that very soon, there will be no good players, just high ranked gimmick teams, or guilds that got lucky from lack of opposition.

Swift Thief, I have no idea who you are, so I'm going to assume someone bad. You obviously don't play GvG much, because it IS dying, and AT's won't fix it.

I wouldn't say dead but it's certainly in very poor shape. By the time GW2 rolls around, I'm wondering if there will be any decent pvp'ers left to care.

RA = Unbalanced skills dominating. It doesn't matter how good your monk is, if you have melee and face a competent curses necro chances are you're RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GOed. They should add to the holy veil description, "good for removing parasitic bond". Pre-veil works great for the first 20 seconds of the match. If the match lasts longer than 20 seconds you're in trouble. In short, hexes overpowered, hex removal underpowered. Don't get me started on rit camping.

TA = Decent, since you can at least counter some of the meta. However since it has no real point (is anyone who pvp's not UAX at this point?), it's not something worth spending a ton of time on.

HvH = Gimmick builds ftw and then there's the 90% of the GW community who just don't give a crap about hero pvp.

HA = Wrecked since NF came out. No good reason for anet to RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO it up to the extent of which they did, but considering the other modes of pvp are equally awful right now, at least they're consistent.

GvG = Maybe the AT's will rock, but with so many guilds having already quit the game, the next play-off run will seem diluted in terms of talent. For the time being, the ladder is pointless and obs mode is a ghost town. Fun.

I think you ment Ha and GvG are dying. and yes this is the case. GvG is nowhere near what it used to be, and HA has been shit for a logn time now, they just stuck a stick in it and stirred the smell, thats all. And yes when your 2 biggest forms of competitive PVP are dying, then PVP in general is dying.

I'm going to keep this simple. In answer to the thread title: yes.

In answer to whether I agree with you: No. I don't.

Build Diversity is fine. It's people's lack (or laziness) of making builds is what is crippling PvP. People are becoming less interested in sorting through over a thousand skills trying to make a good build, and would rather refurbish broken and abused builds to the point of Anet's nerfing. Short summary, it's not the lack of builds or build diversity (because there are LOTS of builds one can play), it's the lack of the community to try, and the notability of particular builds that stress the maximum capabilities of game mechanics to the point of that build becoming imbalanced.

The community has a cesspool for bad behavior. You need only to spend 5 minutes in any PvP area to see just how rude and incompetent people can be. Can't blame that one on Anet.

If all these people are quitting PvP, they sure aren't playing PvE.... cause a lot of cities and outposts, especially in older chapters, are practically empty (even during peak hours) - not that it matters, since the popular trend seems to be "Just hench/hero it"

I don't PvP that much, but I'd agree... it's a rather repetitive affair... much like an Unreal Tournament match. Guild Wars suffers from the same things Magic the Gathering suffers from... lack of creativity in builds... there are certain combos that "work" and certain ones that "don't" ... in many ways PvP rewards tried-and-true methods over creativity, at least from my experience.

either way, I predict that there will be slight boost in popularity with Eye of the North, then a slow descent into stagnation as Guild Wars 2 comes up from the horizon.

I read these posts, and Look at the guilds, and wonder how many of you actually PvP. The guilds you want to watch to see build diversity are the ones that get up to the top and stay there.Check out eF and iQ to name a few, ones that have been at the top for awhile. The other ones are there by running gimmiks and meta. As for HA, the meta changes as people counter and anti-counter.

The good players are frustrated, but they arent quitting. you guys just think they are because they dont usually voice frustration, they just kind of go silently.

ANet is doing the best they can, imagine trying to forsee ALL the possible combinations of skills and balancing them ALL at the same time. Skills like Unyielding Aura, ok, its crap. Other skills just need to have uses found for them. For one, I think Izzy is doing a fine job, and I feel bad for him to have to deal with ungrateful people that post stuff like this on the forums. You dont like it? leave.

Yes it's dead along with the majority of good PvP guilds that used to exist.

The reason it's dying is a one word answer:

Nightfall.

Is PvP and Guild War's PvE really that bad? It seems people here just criticize everything.

I don't think PvP is dying. Sure it may be a bit imbalanced at times, but its still fun. Gimmick builds will always be around as whenever someone comes up with a good easy to play build people are bound to copy something that works.

If we are to talk about guimick, let's put this way: nf promoted guimicks more than other campaigns. As for the old guilds, at least I assume koreans left because of the gaps between the championships, too much open and fun seasons, little competitivity. I guess we still expect the finesse of watching a team and being surprised of how smart they played or chose their build, like before, but the fact the game is already 2 years old won't allow these circunstances so frequently. The old guilds weren't gods as well, but they were certainly entertaining. I'd log at lunch just to watch evil playing, miss those times.

High ranking guilds accept only high ranking members, high ranking members get bored after a bit, they quit, low ranking "newbs", of sorts, arn't accepted because they're not "good" enough thus turning them off of pvp and making them do pve, they beat pve and then quit, thats my reasoning as to why pvp is dead XD

Yes PVP is dying.

For this exact reason among others that PVP will continue to decline. AT's won't save the game nor bring it to a higher standard before they nerfed the current ladder. AT's essentionally will throw current guilds into turmoil if every member isn't from the same time zone. There is a 14day guild rule which also chastises any hope of casual PUG gvg unless said players are truly willing to ditch the competitive scene. Look at obs mode tonight, it's IQ vs every PVE guild, people think PVP isn't dying?...GW has already lost a big sum of the long time gamers and will continue rapidly...A new age of GW is coming, that is, IF the current PVE guilds ever decide to get serious...

Wow i read these posts and laugh....

For one PvP is not dying...Who cares if your old supposedly good guilds are gone. Thats life people wont continue to play a game forever and it certainly doesn't mean that todays current players have less skill

2. PVE dying yeah thats a good one I see more outposts of places then ever...What game are you guys playing?

Of course there are builds which are simply better than anything else. Why bother using anything else if there is one best build for each class combo?

Back to the topic.
For me, AB, RA and Hero Battle are the best pvp in the game. Because you hardly ever depend on other people. So you dont need to feel stressed when you take 30 minutes to form a group and you lose at the first match because your monk doesnt know how to heal properly.
From my point of view, HA and GB are dying, not pvp in general.[/QUOTE]

The only Problem with AB is the fact that its ceased to become what it was meant to be. Its become a place to show off your 1v1 WTFPWNage build, or just to go in and kill people, the capping part is almost non existant most of the time, its almost an after thought when it should be the primary focus of the AB with killing your opponents as just a hold up while on your way to cap the next shrine.

As far as PvP dying, I dont think its dying well AB and RA arent at least (I dont do much GvG HA or TA) AB has been the busiest its ever been since I can remember. And they are fun.

They don't really count as PvP for the purpose of this discussion. Basically, by "PvP is dying", we mean high-end pvp, ie GvG and Heroes Ascent (although HA to a lesser extent).

This basically comes down to GvG, and the lack of 'good' teams playing. This is brought on by the new ladder system, but lack of AT's to back it up (until now), and the fact that there's not been anything worth playing for for the last few months (fun season after fun season).

Im a casual pvper, and i can tell pvp has taken a big hit for some of the following reasons:
1. Anet cant seem to balance things perfectally. its the buff/nerf cycle. They buff a skill then it gets nerfed when it gets abused. Skills like sf that were overpowered have been nerfed, and things like sr that give a huge advantage have been nerfed as well.
2.Newbs. There are too many inexperienced players out there. Just go into places such as ab/ra/ta and the american districs of ha. Youll'e see mendings and flares and "tank lft"'s flying around everywhere.
3.On the other hand, experienced players can pose a problem. thoes r10+ players who are snobs that want you to use a cookie cutter build cna get annoying, and alot of these players go into guilds together. this combined force makes it hard for just regular pugs to do anything in pvp.
4.buildwars. Everything in pvp is based around builds. sf. lod. rc. boa(lol). everybody runs the cookie cutter builds which leads to no diversity. Oh look an ele, it must be a sf fire ele. /bored.
I think anet needs to get their act together. pvp will be dead unless action is taken.

Oh, there are many who thought long ago that the pvp was stale and quit. There are many who still think that but keep playing, partly because of faith that the situation will turn around someday but mostly because they have nothing else better to do. And of course there are those who mostly fine with the current state. In my experience these players are either new to pvp in general, grinding away rank, or vets who like stomping newbies/grinders/people-who-just-suck.
