Another thing you can do to show your good besides rank: Be versatile. Its a known fact that rankless players who can consistently run any build from over 6 classes and can see how any build they are given was intended to be used, is far far better then some rank 6 who can only run SF.

I suggest new players not going into the International Districts, as they're the place where high ranked groups are forming.
You can easily find groups not requiring any rank in your American/European districts. Those groups are unfortunately of very low quality and they usually disband after first loss.
That's why the best way to really get into HA is to play with a group of friends or get into a guild that does it regularly.

This is a load of crap. We all start at rank zero with a non-existant friends list and probably not in a PvP guild. If you really enjoy HA you will find groups and gain that shiny new bambi sooner than you think.

You need a low rank to get to a middle rank, and a middle rank to get to a high rank.

and NO rank to get to low rank...

to the OP:
Just start to play with PUGs, they are still there and even if they demand ranking you can often join if you ask nicely (dont try the high ranked but with r3+ it should be doable)

what is important that you are skilled in some way. Experience is important for rank, but not that important for skill. Dont take team leading positions, but first learn to play the maps, Search forums for "safe" builds and request if they need some specific skills in the team (so basically let the team make your build first)

The only real way to learn is to play HA... and dont be down if it doesnt work out. But be realistic...

a guild would be the best option ofc

gl!

Versatility is great at the beginning because you can fill many different roles, but at some point (around rank 5-6) you should begin to specialize. Say you specialize in warrior, and the group needs a warrior. If they have 3 people on their friends list who are "versatile" in everything, but they know you're a specialized front-liner, they're more likely to whisper you to join. Of course, you still need versatility in builds, but a combination of both specialty and versatility will be helpful in the long run.

To be honest, I'd probably be considered "versatile" since I can play monk, mesmer, necro, ele, ranger, sin, rit, warrior, and very loosely, a paragon. But the matter of the fact is, if someone is looking to fill a ranger or mesmer role (my 2nd and 3rd best classes), they're probably not going to ask me, but if they need a monk, they'll be much more likely to ask me to join.

I wish the PvE titles had emoticons... ¬_¬

That is the only reason why I'd even considered HA myself.
I absolutely hate PvP ..... but being the shallow-minded guy I am, I want the flashy animal emoticons... The mere "Kind of a Big Deal" title I got yesterday is nothing... -_-;

But then I'm not kidding myself into thinking I'd be able to manage in HA very well. At best it would be a perpetual PuG-grind.

... It IS PvP remember.
If you have a spare Char-slot... you can roll up a PvP character on the fly for it... delete and replace as you wish...
... And the fame ranking is per account, not per character... ^_~

That's HA for you. It takes half an hour to get a PuG together which disbands after getting Flawlessed in the Underworld.

Usually with the worst players screaming at everyone for being noobs. Better on vent with the 11 year old kids screaming.

WHERE WERE MY HEALS WITH I SPLIT OFF FROM THE PARTY AND RAN HALF AN AGGRO CIRCLE OUT OF HEALING RANGE WITHOUT TELLING ANYONE~!!!

I find it best not to pug as a monk or warrior. If stuff does not die, people blame the melee. If you die it is always the monk faults. Only rarely do other classes get yelled at for losses. At least from what I seen. The exception of course was IWAY builds, where warriors could do whatever, and you blamed the necros.

Yeah this is a pretty good idea. Main problem is that I love playing monk, so meh.

Also if you want, you might try one of those fame farming services. Not saying you should use it, but trying it at least for a few fame gets you the hang of how experienced players lead groups and how they play and what builds they use. Alternatively, you can purchase HA lessons, but no one really provides those...=P

If I'm ever on at primetime and feel like making a group, feel free to pm me and see if I have a spot open. No guarantees though, especially since I haven't led a group for half a year and I've only made about 3 groups in the past 2 months

well it might be a bad advice, but i think most of the people (me included) started HA with doing gimmicky stuff (like bspiking, or similar). playing this way wont make u good on average, but its actually good in order to get used to the maps, objectives on maps, and general positioning, threat assessment and so on.

later on you can always switch to more balanced builds.

feel free to pm me if I can help in some way, Ive been away for some time, but feel very decent playing monk ^^

Yes that is bad advice. Gimmicks are boring and it's the PvPers equivalent of farming. Farming sucks, since a game like GW is best enjoyed when played for fun, not for fame or gold.

Retarded thread, sorry but it is... Someone asks for builds, he gets told to use the search function and what not - thread closed.

Someone asks a question which is in the instruction manuel and it goes on forever?

Look, if someone asks for rank in HA - maybe they mean the rank you get from winning HA. Not say GVG rank, or hero battle rank, or how about an exploration title?

It is pretty obvious and self explinatory...

The thread title itself.

Quote:
OMG It's unbelievble
A lot of people who play have had the game 24months and more. So your thread title is a lie, but okey.

Quote:
How do you obtain those ranks?
Wow, just wow.

Quote:
Why do they all use Vent and not TS?
Who cares? Anyways - they don't ''all'' use vent.

Quote:
Meeting point is that always in International District?
Travel to your european or american district. Do you really need to post and ask? Honestly?

Quote:
Thanks for the quick reply
Í´ll do my best to get a good team, but it´s way to hard
You don't need a good team to win halls.

Quote:
3: Any strategy for obtaining those ranks?
Win and not lose. Surprisingly.

Liar. Someone who's got rank6 from purely running SF is more likely to be a better ele given any build than a player who says 'I can play anything'.

Sure there's being versatile - you could have all skills unlocked, but still if it is the choice between a rank6 and a rank0 who bought the PVP edition, it is better to chose the rank6. Not because rank6 garuntees success but simply because it raises the odds of him being better; in addition, he is more likely to know the maps, bit more about positioning maybe, etc etc... I'm talking general here.

Typical mentality of a monk. Red bars go up =P.

Totally disagree, plus you won't be thinking so much for yourself unless you're the caller. You won't learn why you should move, you'll only learn that you should move. If I see some IWAY'er try to join my group, I kick him - I know other that do this. Well, why screw yourself up later on in the game.

You can say it about any sport - you should realise that some do play for the fame or gold; however, I don't think that the builds he mentioned are best for that and they don't teach you much .

That's why most r3 monks suck

The right mentality should be: Red bars don't go down ^_^

Anyone who claims they can play a prot monk but play with the "red bars go up" mentality is going to be crying for energy as they spam sb on the same target 5 times in 15 seconds hoping to make the target's health go up

<3 the rest of your post though.
