It doesn't really do anything to anything. This is one of the most useless balance updates I've ever seen.

I like the changes to WoW as it will give rits more play time and decreases the ability of the E/rt runner build. Ritualist are not a problem. Their bars have been very hard to incorperate into team builds aside from rit spike in HA and the occasional weapon support rit for GvG. Hardly a buff.

I dont understand Spiteful spirit. it goes from 15e down to 10e back to 15e... LOL... Ah ya just have to laugh at anet some times.

The soul reaping Change is a WTF. I like the fact that if your energy is full it doesn't count as your 3 payouts and Its about time they take away SR from spirits that are not your own. I feel minions should be included in that as well.

As for the paragons.... OK anet why not just remove the class. You designed it nerfed it to oblivion made it a WTF for team builds as a single template and then extend almost all the chant times now making them interuptable by a caster. And you expect to see this class played??? I dont know what to say aside from..... YOU FAIL!

The mechanics change to HB is rather lame along with the sin changes.
what is the purpose of 15sec recharge on a skill that only needs a 5 sec window to kill your target at best. Not to mention the minimal change to HaO. Add all this with Not 1 improvment to the AI especially while they are running between flags and the level of stupidity is astounding.
IMO HB will probably still remain a mostly holding BS gimmick where sins can Shine in their own glory as they are somewhat shuned upon in most other facets of competative pvp.

With another botched skill/mechanic balancing ...All those Who feel Anet staff smokes the ganja say " I " .

I also feel like this is an extremely pointless update overall. I mean, there's some fun skill buffs that can fit in a few builds, but it's mostly fun stuff, not top-notch stuff (the only thing i think will seriously enter the metagame is Agonizing Chop. It's incredibly powerful and pretty much a wtf buff. Crit Chop was too good at 5/10 so let's make it 6 adrenal? It'll actually be fun to try a Battle Rage Axe build abusing it at least). A lot of it seems like totally random buff. Elementalist skills buff to skills that will never see use either way. Same for Monk buffs (except MAYBE Empathic Removal on W/Mo).

But NOTHING got fixed. Not a single real issue. Well, maybe Defensive Anthem along with the Power interrupts buffs is now more balanced and the AL stack limit.

Melee hexes? We're monitoring them but, hrm, well that's it.
Searing Flames? We're monitoring it but we like that fire makes things go boom.
Recall? We fixed it... we made it like it was last update.
Rt Spike? Let's see what Soul Reaping nerf will do to it (wtf? Many HA teams don't even include a Necro in there anymore and Monks could easily do it, it's not like they need to heal THAT much with so many stupid spirits being spawned)
SP Sin? Hrm, we'll nerf Expose Defenses to 15s. Because that will help, now they can't SP spike more than every 15s! Ha!

Seriously this is incredibly disappointing and the only realistic explanation i can see is ANet not wanting to annoy PvErs with nerf and so they went into a buff cycle instead of fixing broken stuff. This is quite scary when you think of what PvP in games like WoW is like when they just buff stuff instead of balancing. But the only explanation i can see with this update after all the issues were so clear for so long and NOTHING was done about them is this one. They won't balance for PvP anymore, they'll balance not to annoy PvErs. And so it means buff cycles and not touching popular PvE skills like Searing Flames.

And wuzzman... i'll agree with others, i don't see any point in what you're saying and ignoring you definitely seems like the best option cause i doubt any argument can make a point. Apparently to you ignoring what GvG players ant for balance is a good idea as long as they make more viable options for RA.

off topic question, but wth is 'smurfing'?

in my native tongue a smurf is something like this:

They did that the first time they nerfed soul reaping, probably as some sort of 'compensation' for energy lost. Soon after it became pretty rampant so aNet changed it back (one of the few good things about the patch).

in my native tongue a smurf is something like this:
from wikipedia:

"Smurfing, in the context of online gaming, refers to the practice of a well-known or highly-skilled player creating an unknown character or login, then using it to play against, defeat, and often humiliate low-skilled players.[citation needed] The unknown character/login is necessary to fool the low-skilled players into entering the game, particularly if the high-skilled player is known to have done this before. Often, the player utilizing this "smurfing" technique will intentionally lower their "rank" or "record" by intentionally losing many matches, to further enhance the appearance of his apparent ineptitude to the game in which he/she is playing.[citation needed] The oblivious opponent, seeing their low ranking, will see the match as an "easy win", which often leads to their further humiliation by being beaten by this apparent novice."

in GW smurfing usually happens in ladderplay. good guilds make smurf guilds and play with them gvgs instead with their original guild. so they can a) play without risking to lose rating on their main guild , b) test builds in gvg without being seen on observer, c) have fun rolling (bad) guilds or or or ...

So Izzy doesnt pay attention to the actual game he wants to balance? Thanks for that info as it answers a lot of questions.

How can he or anyone else have not heard any rant from players either in game or on the forums that hexes have been a problem for the past couple months. Was he away in a buddist temple on a pilgrimage or something?

best way to balance paragons:

leadership (that's the primary attribute, right?):
for every non-paragon ally within earshot of your chant and shout, you gain x energy.

then anet can proceed to actually buff their skills slightly, because there will never be more than 2 paragons in a group with this change or risk that their energy dry up extremely quick.

This appears in the wiki link:

Note: After reviewing the comments and feedback we are going to move forward with the allowing guests in Daily Automated Tournaments, but we are going to keep the 14-day restriction on the 4 guild members. Please note these new restrictions are only going to apply in Daily Automated Tournaments, and the older restrictions will still apply for Monthly Tournaments
Trying to think of some meaningful comment to make on this skill update but half of this stuff seems ... kind of random.

Hopefully spamming cripshot will keep me amused to the next patch.

I think its hilarious that they attempt to give good reasons for the changes (most of which are crap), but then when it comes to hexes they just say we aren't changing them...and thats it. No reason, no nothing.

And the buffs to conjure phantasm and signet of humility are hilarious as well.

I like SR changes ( it still should include all spirits but its a move in right direction) , fastcasting signets and buffed interrupts. Defensive anthem nerf is also nice.

Rest is fail as usual. So many balance problems ignored. No suggested improvements to HA and TA. It seems no one in anet has a clue anymore.

They should stop trying and just hire Ensign.

How long till Starcraft 2 again?

I guess Crip Shot buff (or change to how it used to be) is ok.

Buffing hex builds, not touch searing flames, buffing weapon spells (Splinter :\)

... yeah this update really couldn't have been much worse.

They would have done well to go with Ensign's list.

Lol the "nerf" to Expose defense is the most ridiculous change ever. It makes no difference whatsoever!!!

I have to agree, they should hire Ensign and/or fire Izzy.

I'm just very disappointed. I only do GvG nowadays, and my guild feels pressured to run a Aegis/Hexway, SF Spam, or Ritspike...

Every skill that has a duration of considerable effect contributes to dampening the GW experience. It's passive play that, when spammable and unstoppable, frustrates me; very little individual skill, team skill too, is required to win with such builds.

Get your act together Anet! You're losing players by ignoring the bigger balancing issues.

Sometimes I wonder what would have happened if after a few months after the game came out, one of the higher up's at ANet had pm'ed Ensign and said "You know more about the game than any of the developers put together. We want our game to become the premier competitive game on the market. We will mercilessly listen to any suggestions on skill balancing and game improvements if you agree to act as a consultant for us. This will not affect your eligibility for entering future tournaments, however you will not receive any payment for your efforts, only heavy acknowledgment from ourselves and the community."

Would he even respond to such an offer? I like to think he would have. Its far too late to think of what might have happened though.

Failure to listen to the upper tier players is the downfall of almost every game I've ever played.

Btw, most priceless post in the thread:
