Default Blinding Surge

Hey all,

Lately we've been seeing more and more blinding surge eles. Back when I was member of LST, we normally handled this by having a domination mesmer with Diversion who'd divert the blinding surge.
Now that I've started a new guild though, I'd also like to try different builds . So what we use now:

1 cripslash
1 hammer or axe warrior
1 paragon with power return, expel and mirror of disenchantment
1 Burning Arrow
1 Blinding Surge ele
1 RC
1 LoD

We just seem to fail to shut down blinding surge eles with this build. Hexes are quite managable with the many interupts + expel and we have interupts + mirror of disenchantment for Aegis, but blinding surge stops our warriors in their tracks .

I know a domination mesmer isn't needed. By far not everyone in the top 100 is running one, so obviously they shut down enemy blinding surge eles somehow...anyone care to point me in the right direction?

It really depends. If the bsurge is not good, and simply spams the skill, you have little to worry about, just bring double blind reduction and between that and mend touch, the bsurge will not be too much of a threat and will run out of energy. Against a good bsurge, however, it will a pain in the ass without a diversion. Your best bet is probabley to dshot it, but a good bsurge will only use it on a warrior unloading, so try to cordinate between your warriors and ranger, in order to get the ele to bsurge and then catch him with a dshot. If your succesful, you have 20 seconds to push as hard as possible, and then try to catch it again. If not, try again.

P.S. Also, consider bringing dchop on an axe, as it is much easier to time then dshot

Stripping/interrupting Air Attunement works decently against those guys. 10e Blinding Surge isn't cheap. Give your own B-surge a draw and have him in Draw-mode /constantly/. Don't wait for the warriors to call, just pull any condition you see on them, so the blinds come off within seconds of application. If he's spamming it on recharge, have your ranger D-shot it predictively.

If I recall correctly we used to fight blinding surge by a combo of

sig of hum
Diversion

and most important

plain old condition removal.

Most of our builds had a draw implemented (We put it either on the flashbot or the hard res mesmer, so in your build the BS would be nice to have it) and since we relied on the melee frontline for our spikes it was one of my priorities as a monk as well. Since you have a RC... Let monks work for their money :P

Like squid said: never wait with removing blind from wars. You dont need the calls, you see the animation on the melee line. Be quick and decisive with it.

Draw would be perfect. You're matching their 10 energy skill with a 5 energy skill, both on eles. Sounds good to me

draw is all very well but if your draw ele is meant to be assisting spikes with LOrb or whatever your spikes are somewhat neutered and you will find it hard to kill stuff...

Most of the damage your team will inflict, both in the spike and in between spikes, will be dealt by the warriors.

Having them clean is more important, by far imo, than getting your Orb in perfectly timed. Lets say orb does ~130-140 (depending on AL), eviscerate-executioners does just about twice that amount. Assuming your warriors are pressuring properly in between spikes then you will get kills, eventually, with just your warriors converging. if you are relying on caster assisted adrenal spiking as your only means of killing, and your warriors are incapable of ever killing without caster assistance, then it is likely that you are either

a) facing a team that is just better than you
b) Not pressuring properly with your warriors in between spikes

When I face such teams, it is almost always b) that is their undoing. The warriors just use the time in between spikes to build adrenaline pretty randomly, without thought for pressuring properly, scared to use their adrenal skills/frenzy outside the spike, regardless of what opportunities come up to achieve high presure or even kills. Such teams are usually very easy to shut down as the spikes are very easy to predict and prevent.

If you arent using your warriors to pressure properly in between the spikes then, imo, you are better off bringing a pure caster spike. Some teams give the impression of only bringing warriors so they can pretend they are running balanced, when in reality they are just another 3-2-1 team.

LOrb is a 2sec cast... keeping the wars clean and spiking on time seems mathematically impossible to me. please explain.

Draw one second before eviscerate lands (at 2 in the count usually) whether the melee appear to be blinded or not imo, then hit T-orb so it lands fractionally after executioners. Adrenal spikes last for well over a second typically by the time the melee have unloaded their combos (cripslash-gash-final or sun and moon takes nearly 3 seconds), I dont see the need for perfect synch with eviscerate. Get your orb in there or thereabouts and you'll be fine. Fail to draw your melee and you wont be. If they also want you to gale the spike tell them to find another ele :-)

if you use a 40/40 set orb is on a 1 second cast yeye.

Just make your ranger d-shot blinding surge. problem solved.
