Default Pvp... Why?

Just a short look at the gladiators arena can show you in what dissoray the current metagame is in. Anet is erratic with skill changes, putting a factor of "wtf" into the whole thing. I played pvp alot (or atleast tried to) before nf came out, and things were good back then. But now... Whats the point?
Ha-Gimmiky cookie cutter builds, tons of rank induced eliteism. What do you get from it? Rank? faction? Yay you can get a shiny emote and then its pointless. Most of they day halls is "held" by guilds, most of which are european.
Gvg- Not too bad off. If you like it, which i do, and you have the patience and guild resources to make one, its not that bad. But as seen in thisthread, even the best guilds are getting into the ha mindset.
Hvh-Why? This is 1v1, and just because it involves killing another player, does not mean its real pvp. Because its only one person, you have the freedom of any build, and this can lead to alot of gimmik builds.
ra/ta-Fun for a little, too many inexperienced players, mending whammos, ect.
ab/fa/jq-The only reason people play these is to get faction for the grind spots, jade/amber/elite mission scrolls. If you have ever looked in the stupid builds thread, most of them come out of here. Totla randomness with no coordination here.
So... how many of you feel the same way i do? Is pvp worth it now?

Those aren't the best guilds. Those are the guilds that kill PvP.

They are the best guilds, because they aren't scrubs. Scrubs don't run gimmicks and lose.

Those guilds didn't kill PvP, Nightfall did.

I agree with that.

You can't blame players for running gimmicks if those gimmicks work and win. If a well-played balanced setup could own those gimmicks, that's what top guilds would be running because that's what would win. The fact that stuff like paraway work is because of a balance problem. I mean, you can build against it and win (as shown with the Shields Up!/WY!/Defensive Anthem Paragon...), but if you don't know you'll face it it's really hard.

When top guilds (or guilds at the top anyway) are winning with gimmicks, blame the game balance, not the players.

WRRRRRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!???!!!

Yeah, seriously, PvP is become garbage. Anet have failed to keep up in terms of skill balances, they keep changing things that don't need it, they took 5 months for AT's to be put in, and they've been pushing HvH as a valid form of PvP (which it isnt). All the good balance guilds have quit or are quitting, and gimmicks reign supreme, simply because Anet don't do anything to nerf them.

GW:EN will make it worse, as it's a PvE-only expansion, so gg.

Pvp starting to suck isn't entirely the fault of the game. Lots of people are having exams and other stuff, currently.

Nightfall didn't really kill it as much as a massive lack of maintenance since the Nightfall release did.

They said that because of the AT's, they would be able to release a skill update once every few days, or at the latest, once a week. Where are the skill balances now? That's why pvp is being killed.

if factions and nightfalls were both pve-only expansions(new proffessions and skills pve only), then what would that do? Well many people now say that would have been a good decision. But I wonder, how many people will continue playing in the 2 shock warriors, 2 boon/prot, ether prodigy blindbot/warding/hp spammer, pick your extra's, metagame even till now? lol, I'm getting the impression that many pvp'ers hardly don't know what they want. Picking the most idiotic extremes, the meta now is dominated by...gasps balance builds, zomg gimmick builds aren't dominating.

Hmm, "hardly don't know". Double negative. Lern2english.

I'd love to stay in the GWWC Meta, it was heaps of fun. As would lots of others, it was simple, fun, and nicely imba.

The meta is dominated by balance builds? No it isn't. Look at the monthly tourney. Rit Spike came 1st, Paraway came 2nd. Need I say more?

In 1 to 2 weeks, according to the latest gaile chat. Will include major update to mesmer class and new soul reaping mechanics.

Hopefully it's a 'balance', rather than one of the normal 'buff other skills so something new is more imba than the last meta'

isn't the easiest way to win a tourny is to run a build that the other team doesn't expect??? When have any tourny been won by a balance build?

very few times does anet buff a skill to imba status...maybe crip slash as the 1 exception.

In Tourneys when people cared about PvP. GWWC and GWFC. Both had their fair share of gimmicks, but also had a lot of strong balanced guilds. Now it's just gimmick guilds with a few balanced guilds who gimmick to beat gimmicks. Fun times!

How many time did you see EvIL run a gimmick build?

When guilds like EW that can run very strong balance suddenly decide to turn to FoC spike, or Te switching to mass FC Air Eles (that game still makes me cry lol), that's using an element of surprise. When a guild like Cry that ran Paraway nearly all tournament is using Paraway in the final, that's not going for something the other team doesn't expect.

Lamentation
Shadow of Haste
Glyph of Lesser Energy
A lot of Paragon spear attacks (that were buffed and nerfed one month later when Paraway dominated everything)
Spoil Victor

There's a lot of others i'd mention, but it'd be debatable. That's just a few i can think of that were buffed and nerfed afterwards after being proved too good. And they all severly influenced the meta in either HA or GvG.

Although GW had probably one of the best form of PvP in an MMO.

It has become way too Build Wars now. It aint about skill - it's the build and situation you play. Gimmicks and retarded balancing...I have lost interterest in Guild Wars now.

Meh - back to Battlefield 2142 for my PvP action. And waiting 'til Hellgate: London comes out.

I have taken to playing starcraft again in anticipation of sc2. Almost everyone plays money maps now tho /cry.

I will most likely not buy GW:EN and will most likely not buy GW2. Starcraft is balanced, fun to play and from my experience there aren't too many immature asshats to deal with. I would play BF2142, but alas I have a shitty comp /cry.

I mentioned SR and Mesmer changes because they will no doubt effect the PvP game.

I didn't mention the Sunspear skills being added at the same time, although I should have because I'm hoping the existence of PvE only skills will be used as an excuse to nerf skills for competitive play with impunity.

But thanks for your snark.
