i like what was said about the magic cards...i think Anet just needs to retire some skills. They have been in the game too long and are quite boring....pick 10 random skills out of the core professions and delete them....pick 5 out of the other 4 professions and delete them...add in some PVP only skills...and a few PVE only skills of the same profession (attribute line) and insert some renewed intrest in both PVE and PVP

Evil Avatar News: Guild Wars seems to be a pretty hardcore PvP type game.

A few things that I believe will make this game more enjoyable:[list][*]Fix skills ~ So many skills in this game have either been overnerfed by your developers (I've played Izzy, he loves his Steady Stance.. wow), and find the balance between the overnerf and the "why did you guys do this?" nerf, make the skills less powerful, but still useful. You've been doing this for over 2 years, you should've found the balance by now or hired new developers who understand what they need to change to make the game better.[*]Implement districts for those who have certain ranks. I'm Rank 10, I want to play with people who have at least Rank 9, make a district that requires Rank 9 to enter. Make districts that have no requirement, Rank 3 as a requirement, etc., so players can play with those of their rank and skill level, then keep the original International Districts. Skill can come with experience, I can say this for myself, and just being an overall competent player will help anyone improve. Those who can play at the level that will allow them to win will shine above the rest and continue to move up.[*]Give us more for our guilds. The best I've got is "i'm going to my gh to sit with my guildies and do nothing". Make games, events, dungeons, monsters, pet tournaments, anything. You guys have the capability, so do it. I'm not going to grind my way through the game to get the oodles of gold for nice items every second that I'm playing.
Very good points in your original post Fat Emo Kid, but I have a few comments on the above:

1. Signet of Synergy is tied to Motivation, not Leadership. Probably an "early in the morning thing".

2. It's very easy to say that skills need to be un-nerfed or re-nerfed, and that balance is needed. The problem with a competitive environment like GW PvP is that thousands of people are incentivized to find skill combinations that can simply overpower their opponents. With that type of innovation engine working against the developers, hope for "balance" that will eliminate FotM builds (especially spike builds) is simply a pipe dream. Someone comes up with an idea ---> it works ---> posts it on internet ---> FotM build. Balanced builds simply cannot deal with this type of creativity.

3. Although the International District would be the "cure" for this problem, I personally don't like the idea of "you must be at lease Rank XXX to enter" in the local districts. Unless you restricted the higher ranking players from entering the lower districts, you might see the "fame farming" problem become worse, as Rank 10 players like yourself will likely join the lower districts to find some "easy prey". Creating more restrictive districts also thins out the HA population further, and prevents mixed rank guild groups from playing in the local districts.

4. Yes, A-Net could add a few things to the guild halls, but many of the things you are asking for are simply a lack of creativity by your guild. "Make games, events, dungeons, monsters, pet tournaments, anything." Your guild can organize games, events, pet tournaments, etc. It just takes proactivity by your guild leader (or officers) to do so, and many guilds simply don't want to put the energy into doing so. So, you get requests like the one you make above to promote that laziness by "pushing it off to A-Net".

Again, I agree with most of what you said in your OP, but I wanted to address some of the finer points of your suggestions.

probably been already stated but the name, Guild Wars, comes from Game LORE of Tyria history -- ** not player guilds **

and if i recall correctly you are as a player part of the "1013 AE Guild Wars begin" period, right?

so you participate in guild wars which means your game experience is influenced by that no matter if you play pve or pvp.

The Guild Wars are an obvious ret-con (i.e. changed plot background in order to make the game title "Guild Wars" plausible). If you saw the original Alpha trailer, there was a greater emphasis on "guilds."

With respect to PvP...as the majority of players have voted that they prefer PvE with casual PvP, I don't expect many improvements with respect to GvG/HA in the months after GW:EN.

Well written post.

The development of skills in Guild Wars is absolutely terrible, especially considering they have the ability to change skills as needed, and have had over two years sense release to do so.

I would strongly recommend, if at all possible, that ArenaNet tries to obtain balance lessens for their developers from Wizards R&D team for M:tG.

And that's just for the balance issues - they also screwed up hardcore with the skill descriptions as well - and this should be damn easy to fix.

Example:
Life Transfer For 6...11 seconds, target foe suffers Health degeneration of 3...7, which you gain as Health regeneration.
Life Siphon For 12...22 seconds, target suffers - 1...3 health degeneration, and you gain +1...3 health regeneration.

Same effect, different descriptions.

Searing Flames Target foe and all nearby foes are struck with Searing Flames.

Talk about redundancy...

For OP, I don't participate in PvP, but as for the game entirely, it's not "falling apart" just because the aspects in PvP alone.

I think the whole point here is the high-end PvP is dying and something needs to be done or else ANet should just remove HA, TA, and GvG because very few people do it anymore.

WoW skill lists are just not my favour... they repeat the skills but with different lv!!! <3 Howie. After going through all of these posts you guys have made, I have 2 answers.

1. Thanks for not ready 90% of my post, then telling me I'm whining. You're cool.
2. Those who have done minimal or PvP to only a minor degree, you don't understand what I'm talking about. Obviously this post is going to bring a lot of flaming and I don't care, that's fine. At least make a valid point, then back it up, and if you're going to be like someone who tells me why make the post, why are you posting? Why are you on these forums? Why are you using a computer if you feel this is something you have to deal with?

So many people that just make no sense on these forums. ~_~

No GW was never intended on being a PvP only game.It was intended on being a cooperative in PvE missions with real peaple. Then there is the competive side of the game that deal with PvP that is why it is not called a MMO instead COORPG.

Sorry I meant CCORPG multi tasking. That is what I was told in beta and I mostly played in the Hall of Heros during that time and it has never been the same since which is why I gave up on it.There are to many gimick builds that Euros run which America got sick and prefer gvg or ta.It is not just the skills it is the way the builds that are used on the maps in there. There are no clear and define anwers to fix this as those over at The Guild Hall banged their heads on how to try and fix it and came up with nothing.

Ritspike - Good Infuser who knows how to counter Ritspike, knows the sound, knows the way the spike goes. It's not that hard to Infuse if people split up.

Heroway - Mirror of Disenchantment. Overpowered though.

IWAY/Zergway - LOL

I'm sorry, but what rank are you? Exactly.

Ritualist Spike does too much damage, you won't catch it unless it's Ancestor's Rage and you read it. Heroway can't be stopped with just Mirror of Disenchantment.. There's at least 3 other things they do that pressure, do you even HA or just read these posts and think you're right?

IWAY you have no clue, you must run it if that's how you feel about it.

Unless you've got a fame count over 1,000, you really have no say in this, assuming that 1,000 comes from some build that's not retarded or overpowered. Thanks.

i didnt read the comments, sry if any of this was mentioned before.

Nightfall, despite what people usually think, is imo the worst thing that ever happened to GW. let me explain:
- 2 new professions that are completely ridiculous and added nothing to the game. what did paragons bring to the game that wasnt there before? dervishes at least have their forms, but, well, this aint enough.
not to mention the fact that 10 professions are impossible to balance, which causes all the overpowered stuff that u mentioned.
- Heroes. heroes ruined pve by making it a single player game (guild wars is all about team play. thats why im here). now, they ruin tombs. since i dont care about pve, i would like anet to solve the heroway problem by removing all heroes / henchmen from tombs and from GVG. u want heroes, go hb.
- heroes battle. i dont know any other rpg that offers what GW offers pvp-wise. why is that? items and how rich you are simply arent a factor (pvp char- the best thing in GW. simply genious), unlike games like wow and diablo. its all about skill. and, more important, team play and coordiantion. GW= team play. and then comes HB. heroes made pve singleplayer, now they gonna make pvp single player?
- and finally, nf pve sucks. since this thread is about pvp i wont dig into that issue, but nf pve just sucks. partially because its a single player campaign (see heroes).

So, imo NF got a big part in what has come out of gw.

But, NF isnt the cause. it just really helped the process that started long ago.
HA has become a garbage can long before nf came.
- game released, april 2005. ppl run overpowered pet build. immediately nerfed.
- ele spikes with chain lightning. chain lightning gets nerfed after a month or 2.
- ranger spirit spam. gets nerfed after 2~ months.
- smite e/mo teams. lasts longer, gets nerfed after 3~ months.
- august 2005. IWAY.
- several months later, 80% of groups in tombs r IWAY. bspike and rspike join in.
- several months later. everyone runs IWAY and bspike.
- 6v6 tombs - good days of tombs, large variety in builds.
- present. anet switched tombs back to 8v8 because the iway and bspike ppl cried like hell for months. IWAY is still the dominant build in tombs. bspike, (and ritspike, ele spike, same thing) is still run.

u get the msg? anet stopped nerfing, and that caused "flavour of the month" to become "flavour of the 2 years". there will always be overpowered skills. there will always be gimmick fotm builds. but these builds should be balanced after 1-2 months to keep pvp alive. i saw the last GVG monthly tournament, everybody running the same freaking build. that is the reason that gw pvp is dying.

to summarize:
anet gotta make some drastic changes. small things like removing killcount from ha wont solve anything.

- NF and lack of nerfs caused the problem, as explained above.
- most important- bring nerfs back. GET RID OF IWAY FOR GOOD. i suggest- "i will avenge you" will no longer be affected by dead allies (pets), only party members. stop that ritspike party. eliminate that degen heroway build. let fotm run for 1-2, max 3 months, and astalavista.
- remove heroes/henchmen from all pvp (except hb ofc).

i think that the above changes will be a good start of a long process- reviving tombs. future updates can be refreshing tombs completely- new maps, new objectives, stuff like that.

NOTES
- ur suggestion, making rank based districts in tombs, wont help. and im not talking about the fact that ive been into unranked groups that were way better than r8+ ones. iway screwed up rank, it means nothing. even if it did, much more drastic changes are needed. anyway, why do u need a special district to from a r9+ group? cant u do that now?
- i didnt talk about gvg cuz im not doing gvg for a long time now. i have no idea if gvg suffers from the same problem, though as mentioned above, i saw a way-too-popular build in the monthly tournament.

Actually most people call it an MMO due to not even knowing about the great (or used to be great) PvP of the game. The people who actually know about Guild Wars IRL only know about the PvE aspect.

As for not being intended on being a PvP ONLY game...maybe. But nobody has denied my video proof of somebody at Anet saying "the game was built from the ground up to be a pvp game".
