The maps thing is absolutely true. Eversince AT's started and they made the maps public, was it at season 2 counting in AT's? I wondered why in hell, because that just allows the thing that you can run something shit builds directly designed to certain map. In my opinion, they should state the map pool, but the map would be random, that would force to it to builds like balanced. But mostly I meant the normal ladder games. Ofcourse, it's true that normal ladder means very little, especially as it is very poorly designed, no hibernations etc.

Overally maybe best option ever would be that you buy guildhall, you could design it as you want. But there would be certain halls where you play, and that would be random where you would meet your opponent.

Haven't checked Hero Battles, is it still Assassin vs Assassin?
o yeah im kind of an observer miself ,and it is still assassin vs assassin, sometimes it is assassin vs mo/me or mo/a

This is from the other thread "General Balance Thoughts", few words about observer mode and game design differences between Guild Wars and Warcraft III.

- Look at Warcraft III observer mode (viewing replay) and you see a world of difference in way a game that was build bottom up to be PvP handles spectators. Observer mode in GW has afterplanned and it shows.

For Warcraft III replays compared to GW observer mode:
#1 you can save it on your computer for later date.
#2 ability to watch any position in map, not just unit concentrations.
#3 ability to turn fog of war on and off for different learning purposes.
#4 ability to view what the player was viewing during the game.
#5 ability to see chat comments what observers and players wrote.
#6 ability to pause and alter replay speed to skip boring parts.
#7 many commands like ALT for unit health works in replay too.
#8 summary of the game after it has been finished, resources gathered, units lost etc.

Compare to what we have in Guild Wars. Players copying builds by writing skills they see players use on notepad, no way to see full skillbars with recharges. No way to see what hexes players have, what energy levels they have. Replays for your own guild games are lost as soon as you play another match or scrimmage.

GW goes to the direction where devs are struggling to balance game between PvP and PvE, inter- and intraprofession balance, balance between different PvP modes and still pressure to write on the box of new expansion: "150 new skills!"

So what did Blizzard do to get Frozen Throne expansion sold? New story-driven campaign. A few new units and heroes for special purposes, not meant to be "more powerful" like Guild Wars skills. It shows a level of maturity and thoughtfulness in development team you won't find in GW. Most of the PvP updates come from new maps (which, by the way, are symmetrical for 100% balanced game). New things like different tileset that don't change any core mechanics in gameplay. And it was totally enough!

Players keep releasing their own campaigns, scenarios like DoTA and Tower Defense and peer review ensures quality. Nothing like that on GW. Why? We come to the forums day after day to demand attention from the already exhausted development resources. When ANET does something, it's a huge maintenance hell to sort constructive feedback from endless flood of irrelevant, exaggerated, general-level complaining. The system will not work -- it didn't work like that. Among million(s) of players there's many capable personalities who would like to work to make their favorite game better, but they're ignored and belittled.

Guild Wars has some strong points like inter-class viability, but it went to crisis trying to validate both PvP and PvE worlds while increasing the amount of things that would need to be balanced. This results, sadly, to class B PvP game.

What happened to Necro Raiders? I loved watching their obscure builds tearing apart the typical 'wiki-builds'. A N/W with Disrupting Chop and "Charge!" was so useful and unexpected and it made great, refreshing entertainment. Their performances were best served with Popcorn.
