While I'll probably still buy GW2, it is in no way because of the way that ANet has handled the PvP community. In fact because of the way that it has been handled, I do indeed feel less inclined to buy it, and probably won't even play GW2 for very long if it isn't handled properly in the PvP department.

PvP areas affected by that imfamous hex are such a nuisance that I'd hate to waste my money on a game made by the same people that created that nuisance. I'd much rather buy a different MMORPG. Also, I thought GW was supposedly promoting skill and not grinding? What's this I hear about GW2 having higher levels for players? Feel free to elaborate on that.

Depends. If they implement a real rank system and not the crap rank system we have today ( Real rank system meaning one where you lose points for losing a match. Not the crap underworld farmcake system we have now )

Bad players care about rank.

OT: Yes it has, but I'll still probably give it a try.

Off-Topic: Most of my PvP background comes from FPS shooters and strat games run on private servers. PKers (for us, leechers) Botters and griefers have a tendency to get banned from such servers for much less idiotic behavior than GW lets people get away with here. So dishonorable is not a bad idea imo, just a poorly implemented one with holes that need filling. It also came too late. Some people have gotten so used to being unsupervised that it seems they thought it was their right to be an artard to PuG oriented arenas; Anets slow response to the issues of poor sportsmanship in these gametypes were a contributing factor to my disenfranchisement of the company, but the fact that we have an in-game solution is not.

I don't like the idea of infinite levels either. One hopes that the old level 20 cap affects skills and attributes in the old game and that continued leveling beyond 20 will be nothing more than a number--proof of time spent in-game. The fact that Anet has sztated they were looking at a "no level cap" as a possibility tends to confirm this impression. With luck, they won't break the game for the sake of balance, so a level 20 with phat lewts and UAS will still be just as good as a level 2,009...the 2,009 just has too much time on his hands.

Their handling of PvP isn't the reason I wont purchase GW2. The problem with me is that it looks as if the "skill, not time" method isn't going to apply to it.

Will I buy GW2? I doubt it from the way anet has been since NF. I could have lived with factions, I really could, but since NF everything has gone backwards.

Now that Izzy isn't going to nerf deadly paradox, its just so sad to see what GW has become.

Unless they fix the way the ladder is handled (i.e. make it the way it was before; I dont understand why they needed to fix something that wasn't broken) in GW2, I'm gonna pass.

I've been keeping an eye on this thread and finally decided to add my views to the discussion.

At the moment I would say I would not buy GW2 simply because from what is being said, its gonna be a grinding WoW clone. I hate grind. I do however like competitive team based games. Its not what I bought Guild Wars for originally, but after discovering RA and TA then HA and finally GvG its the only thing keeping me coming back for more. There is no mention of competitive play at all regarding GW2 and so I am very unlikely to buy it.

What *would* make me buy GW2 would be:

Team based PvP formats.

No grinding required to be competitive. Grinding titles is ok, but having to grind for skills and equipmentautomatically puts beginners off even trying pvp.

A much better team up system than what currently is on offer in GW1

Much more support for PvP from the developer.

A better targeting system. I want to bind oponents numbers to my keyboard pls, and perhaps a ally/pet/minion/spirit filter that you can switch on and off at will. erm - thats if GW2 is going to use similar mechanics and interfaces...

GW was, and still is, a great game. It just could have been so much more if skill balances had come a little quicker and advice from top players such as Ensign, JR et al was taken on board.

I think this is one key thing that needs to change in order for me to take GW2 seriously. If Izzy isn't bsing about the way ANet works then something to do with how they go about skill balancing needs to change so that the appropriate changes can be made in order to balance the game.

If Izzy is talking bs then he needs to go and ANet needs to hire one or more top players to balance the game because Izzy is clearly almost no better than your average poster on here at skill balancing.

I don't think many people blindly accept the 'Izzy is drowning in red tape' story quite so much, after reading his direct comments on game balance on the wiki. I don't doubt that he doesn't have as much time as he'd like for GW1 skill updates, but he's clearly not even as competent as many of the players would be at balancing GW as a competitive game.

Also his reasoning/excuses for certain things don't even work very well. Like the story about why he doesn't balance very often: putting through a skill update in the middle of a Korean tournament during beta, and making one of the top teams quit the game. Well, it's not hard to balance before or after random tournaments (if any still get put on these days). Not to mention, how many top teams have now quit the game because of poor balance, months of degenerate gameplay, etc.? I imagine it's much more.

As for no random maps, he likes to see map-specific strategies like WM's vinebridge bodyblocks. Seriously, how many interesting map innovations have happened recently? For the most part, there's a just a huge push to run super strong 8v8 builds on jade, burning, and nomads, and extremely focused splits on the other maps in ATs. There is very little interesting adaptability using balanced builds, because those are at a disadvantage when you just heavily spec for a map.

The skill system in GW is genius. The mechanics are something that no other game has, which is what's kept me playing this long, through three campaigns and one expansion.

But GW2 looks to be following the rest of the market. More grind, more focus on gear, more random pvp with random retards, sorry, that's not for me.

The way A.net's bungled PvP support doesn't help either. Seriously, how much effort does it take to do regular, timely balances? Compared to the endless stream of PvE fixes and content fixes (which require way more testing and programmer time), PvP is a drop in the bucket.

Nightfall was released in October. We got a skill update in February. That's just...unacceptable. Now we're back on a two month update cycle. What happened to monthly balances after ATs? What's the excuse there?

It's just really disappointing and it doesn't make me inclined to buy GW2.

Yeah, Guild Wars may have numerous flaws, but the actual mechanic behind the game is genius. Everything pales in comparison. Just look at Fury lol ... I wasn't even done with the tutorial that I knew the game was just a button mashing fest.

i would not buy guild wars 2 unless a beta, reviews, or word of mouth proved to show that they have not repeated many fundamental flaws that are in guild wars 1. the cons outweigh the pros in guild wars 1.

pro: the unique game mechanics that is reminiscent of diablo 2.
con: there is more flaming in guild wars than youtube. what would be the point of playing if some jerk always bothers you every half an hour? in other mmo communities with less funding or are free, i am actually able to mind my own business most of the time without somebody being a turdburglar.

pro: the game is being updated consistently. with a few great additions. such as the automated tournament system, template system, and titles.
con: most of the old flaws present since prophecies are not fixed, but more broken content is added. not only that, but to keep up with the meta, almost all the expansions need to be purchased.

pro: the unique trader system. so i don't have to spam for black dye or a rune.
con: the trader system needs to either be expanded, or an auction house than any old mmo with 8 bit graphics is able to have. so it doesn't take everyone a whole day hopping around many towns trying to buy or sell certain items.

pro: the website. looks good, with unique content that other mmos don't have.
con: other mmos actually have the gonads to run their own forum instead of relying on fansites. they also don't steal the ideas of other fansites that make them unique, such as a wiki or ladder page.

finally: even though i don't care too much for built in voice com since i always use vent and ts, many games out there have built in voicecom without lagging the servers.
