I still enjoy the game after 25 months and over 5600 hours played.

Will I buy GW2?

If I like the BETA, definately, and even then, I might give the Final version a shot, seeing as it took me a few weeks/months before I really started to play GW1 after I bought it.

PvP support used to be pretty good, and GvG was a blast until Nightfall. When Nightfall arrived, well, you all know what happend.

GW:EN didn't change GvG much at all so no comment there really.

If the support for this game (PvP part) gets better, and improves even more for GW2 like people have said, I am sure alot of people who long time ago quit cause of the lack of support will come back to Guild Wars.

Until then you have alot to prove ANet.

I'm definitely less likely personally.

I really liked this game for a long time, but i think i'm through with it now. I stopped playing since a while, and i just lost interest when nothing came to take care of all the ridiculous rampant gimmicks running over every part of the game.

I liked GvG a lot when you mostly had balanced fights, but now you fight some sort of gimmick nearly every game and there's some pretty retarded stuff like Melandrus that make 100 skills unreliable for melee defense (including about every interesting Weakness causing GW:EN skill that are all risky cause they can't affect Melandrus and you fight those all the time). I hate the current HA meta. Even RA/TA are horrible with stuff like A/Mos.

There hasn't really been skill balances lately. The last big one is what, a month and half ago? There wasn't even a skill balance with GW:EN's release and none since and it's been a month.

The last change to stop leaving/leeching in RA/FA/AB is actually a great one, but it came SO late in the game, after every1 asked for it for over a year. And with the gimmicks still there, those areas aren't much more fun to play in.

The game used to be really good, but slowly turned into a button-mashing one (at least the templates are button mashing if not the team strategy) mostly with NF, and with more and more focus made on PvE.

And GW2 sounds like it will be even MORE PvE focused, so why should you expect PvP support to be better than it is in GW? And then you have world PvP, which sounds about as interesting as PvP in WoW with people never actually being on an even ground for combat because of level/gear.

So no, with SC2 coming out, i can't really see myself going back for GW2. Don't really see what could bring me back in GW1, and i doubt anything added in GW2 would work.

At least in those days the devs responded to concerns and we got weeklyish patches. Then the embargo began, starting with the complete ignoring of the competitive community and failure to balance the game for an extended period.

PvP was mismanaged in the eyes of the pvp community, and the more we got ignored the angrier people got. Now that other options are here that promise not to make those mistakes, why not take them over the company that ignored us and even insulted us for 18+ months?

I have no doubt GW2 will be a solid, free version of wow pve. But I have serious doubts as if the pvp community in GW1 will be back or if anet can manage a competitive game and community. I doubt I will be back, unless fury, warhammer, potbs, hellgate, and SC2 all manage to disappoint me more than anet did.
Pretty much the same here.

I don't know what PvP games you guys are talking about that are imminent that will have such high quality pvp.

Fury is complete and utter garbage. Yes I know, it sounded great, like GW without the PvE, but try it out for yourself, and you will see what a festering pile of shit that game is.

Warhammer Online I'm sure will be a fine game, and I'm looking forward to it, but competitive PvP on the order of classical Guild Wars it won't be. It is just another mmorpg, a generation after WoW, that will fix some mistakes, plus a bit of DAoC thrown in. It looks like a great casual pvp game, but not a competitive one.

Age of Conan too will be a fine game, but apart from guild politics on the PvP servers (fighting over battlekeeps), as opposed to the faction vs faction combat of WAR or WoW, it too is nothing different. In all other respects it will be just like every other mmorpg ever made.

Btw, hi Zui!

Age of Conan will be utter grindfest. I've read stuff what one developer said, he was so glorifying grind that I almost puked.

Actually, I think Pirates of the Burning Sea is going to be great.

There's open beta test in a few days I think.

Of course, it's not entirely the same game as GW if you know what I mean, but that doesn't matter. As long as it's fun - cool.

I bought GW:EN purely for PvE reasons. Serious competitive PvP is something i don't do anymore. Too much stress, too much hassle, and too much powercreep made the game less strategic, less intelligent, less rewarding for casual play (you heard me) and less fun. Balance issues were a big flop as far as I'm concerned. They put little effort into it (a handful of programmers getting run into the ground is not a lot of effort in my estimation) and the renewed surge here in the forums (even the report system and dishonor system for low level PvP) is too little too late. HA was fun and rewarding once, no matter the complaints about imbalances. Now its garbage; due more to the way it has been redesigned than anything else. GvG was challenging and interesting a year ago. Its just not fun now.

PvE has become their focus and I applaud the strides they've made to keep it interesting and rewarding for casual and hard core gamers (yes, I mean the grind. its not too much, but its not too little). But PvP is a dead horse. the World PvP sounds too much like NCSofts City of Heroes/Villains for me to take it seriously, with an AB/Arborstone twist for people who can't get a full group.

Maybe GW2 is Anets attempt to fix PvP. Maybe its their attempt to move away from it and become a WoW clone. Time will tell. All i know is, the game types weren't really broke until Anet started fixing them. People who didn't like them, didn't play them. When they tried to cater to these people, they created a game that those who did play didn't like...and the people they catered to still didn't like it. In the end, no one plays. Not the people who wanted changes, not the people who once enjoyed it. The ladders stagnant pace proves this. The number of players in ID of HoH screams this.

If my next comments offend, I apologize, but I want no ambiguity in what I am about to say. Sorry, but I've heard enough of this. I don't want any more innuendo from your company about GW2, I want results in GW1. ATs were supposed to increase the number of balances we saw in a year, not drop them to zilch. You want to improve the next game, get serious about PvP instead of putting it in the back seat. Advertise, make tournaments worth playing for the hassle involved, and balance skills on a regular basis so we don't face the same junk every darn match week in week out day after day! You broke the freakin ladder to do that, now DO IT!

Step up or shut up for GW1 and don't pull the "we're too busy on GW2" card on us again. I can't play that game, I can play this one. Thats the flaw you have GOT to focus on if you want customer loyalty. Your legacy here will dictate who moves to the next game or who will already have forgotten Anet when it comes out. Or, to be a blunt as i possibly can: why should I waste my time in a community Anet never cared about?

You say you do. You need to show me too.

Players have been searching for a dule ass meta for a while now. Every nerf has been to guide the game back to the old propherices meta were teams would fight under 3 wards, hide behind 2 blindbots, and 2 guardian, protective spirit, reversal of fortune spamming boon/prots. In the old days r1000 guilds would stalemate r500 even sometimes r100 guilds till VoD. Granted vod was 30 minutes back then. Anet would have save it self and alot of time by just making the new professions, assassins, rits, dervs, and paragons pve only. New skills pve only (searing heat, reapers mark, ect), and just left pvp alone 2 years ago. It would have died in a year, but at least its "balanced" ^_^. And hell pve'ers would get a butt load of "pve only" stuff to make them feel special. Honestly when pve'ers(and they are VERY annoying by the way) are less annoying then pvp'ers...you know pvp is dead.

right now if anet is focused a majority of its time of GW2 and GW1 pve I wouldn't be surprised.

It's posts like these that are just a complete and general, although small thought process from most of your community. If it's easy for people to say they will move on to a different company, game, etc. You really lost alot of respect within. I still haven't gotten a PM btw and great posts by numerous people.

Hate to say it but you got pocket 2's with a flush on the table.

Yes, not going to even beta test GW2.

PvP balance team is pretty non existant and incompetent.

GW was fun while it lasted though, thanks ANet for that, but milking the cash cow like you did with GW will hurt GW2 in one way or the other.
You lost your reputation over time IMHO.

I have utterly no faith in the competency of the Arena Net PVP team, ranging from the management to community representation and right down to balance. Consequently I won't be wasting any more time on an Arena Net PVP related game - ie. GW:EN or GW2.

Andrew, your company failed as far as I'm concerned. Nothing short of completely fixing Guild Wars currently will change that attitude.

Just a quick note to contrast Anet to other companies.

I have been an emeritus member/guest on XoO's private forums for a long time. During the week or so, members of the development teams of three upcoming MMOs (Fury, Pirates of the Burning Sea, and Dawn of Fantasy) have personally stopped by our private forums to answer questions and hype the game. In each instance, they have given out information on betas, the game, and gone out of their way to ask for our business and take any input we have. Not precanned spam, actual posts and Q&A.

The PotBS dev went well beyond that. The PotBS PvP balancer personally responded to a lot of my questions about high end PvP, then got on our vent and talked to me about PvP philosophy and plans for future pvp depth for about four hours....twice. Not only that, a week or two later HE PMED ME and asked me if I had any thoughts or feedback I would like to share.

We didn't ask any of those people to come, they came to promote their product and get the community interested. They were certainly welcome to come, but the point is they took the steps to solicit advice and feedback, and they were the proactive ones. They responded instantly, gave straight answers (even if we might have disagreed), or honestly told us if there was a technical reason why something couldn't be done. Not only that, they appeared willing to listen and implement suggestions.

Contrast that to Anet, where we beg for months for fixes and get no response, or worse, get insulted by the devs. Anet can talk about how great of a job they will do in GW2, but GW showed me otherwise. And now other companies are showing me a willingness to reach out to the PvP community and genuinely listen and communicate. Anet showed me disdain for the PvP community and a flat refusal to communicate.

Guess which will get my business?

PotBS has been in development for years; idk how close it is to launch. But truthfully, I'm not worried about it. PotBS won me over simply by the dev community and their understanding and dedicated approach to high end pvp. I decided to buy the game before I ever saw it, just because I can tell they understand high end pvp and want PotBS to be that kind of a game. Even if they fail, I am willing to reward the effort.

BTW, I've gotten several PMs from people asking me for info on PotBS. I'm not a dev of PotBS or anything and can't give official word. All I am is a dedicated pvper who they won over. The game is still in betas, I know. But I am very confident if I passed the word on to their dev team that members of the GW PvP community wanted to learn more they would respond. If you want me to pass it on, lmk.

For all your info about PotBS. As far as I know the game is currently scheduled to release this winter. Only bad thing I can find about it is that there are some things that aren't going to make the release but are planned to be added later. But their communication is an example of how it should be.

Lets finish the PotBS part there. If you got specific question about it, or want to discuss it more, create another thread.

Thanks
