Yes. Their direction is pve, and thats because the money is there, sucks, but hey cant blame em. They are a business.

Well yea...I haven't bought Gw:en and its VERY unlikely I'm buying GW2. This is coming from a guy who has prophecies, factions, and nightfall collectors editions. I used to support Anet but the direction they have gone and actions they have taken over time are just sickening on so many levels.

Destroying the gvg without having the tournaments ready is what did it for me, skill imbalance was annoying as hell, but what was more annoying was going from getting champ points last november.. to grinding the ladder for 2 points while all my friends quit this game :P

I guess the change of tombs to 6v6 might've been the equiv. for tombs players.. I HATED those changes more than skill imbalance (tho that did get REALLY bad with each subsequent chapter..)

I dunno, maybe it's just me. Then again I haven't been pvping seriously much since NF came out Have a bit dont get me wrong, but it just was never the same... I think games get stale though, and they didn't really know how to fix the problems once it hit the fan, so c'est la vie.

I didn't get gwen, and I won't get GW 2 unless it has comparable pvp, which from what i hear it doesn't.. so, heh. I'm just not really into pve anymore.

Didn't buy Gwen either.

It's not just about PvP... I bought the game for both PvE and PvP. I admit, they got me with "skill over time" advertisement. Grind in PvE increased drastically. And please spare me "you don't have to grind".. of course I don't have to, but then I miss a lot of game content so what exactly did I pay for, a demo version?

PvP on the other hand... leechers taking more than a year to deal with, and it's really a simple thing if there's a will. Heroes plaguing PvP. Almost non-existent skill balances (when a skill hasn't been used for 2yrs in any arena including PvE, and it still isn't buffed/tweaked, then yeah, that's not a balance) which means most of the skills are just dead weight to fill the quota of new chapter. Bad profession design, such as Paragon who has 80% of skills which can't be countered (shouts, chants, echos) and a primary attribute which contradicts game design.. and above all, no rewards for casual PvPers (no armor/weapon skins, fun items, etc.. nothing). Note: casual PvPers: 99,999 of PvP playerbase.

Absolutely nothing seen in these two years convinces me that suddenly GW2 will solve these problems. As a matter of fact, it seems to be WoW-clone.

Most probably not buying either. To me, GW:EN means "We are going to PvE direction, GTFO PvP". I like to do some PvE too but there are other MMOs which are better at PvE than GW. But really what Im looking from online games is PvP.

Big fat no. Sad from me, who has spent over 300$ in Guild Wars (all 3 campaigns, expansion, character slots, buying the game for friends...). If anything, I'd still be playing GW1 until they shut the servers down. Frequent, timely skill balances would have solved many problems and kept a lot of top players. Instead they wiat, wait, wait until all these people ragequit the game then throw out a few limp nerfs. I don't even enjoy PVE much anymore. One you've beaten the missions and stuff, all that's left is farming for the sake of farming (for me anyway). It was my way of mindlessly passing time and enjoying the game. Even many of the greatest farming builds got nerfed. Anet drained the life and soul, the fun out of their game, and they must be paid back where it hurts the most, financially.

I think the difference will be that a lot of people bought or continued playing GW because Anet continued to say that they would fix the problems a lot of people had with GW PvP. Now though, everyone knows that they are very slow at dealing with these problems, if they deal with them at all. Everyone also knows that a lot of the solutions they have come up have been terribly designed and implemented.

If GW2 has great pvp then people will obviously buy it, the difference will be that no one in their right mind would buy it until the pvp in terms of balance and fun is very good. I guess if there are other games that have pvp like what guild wars could have had you might be more inclined to play them over gw2. Basically Anet had an opportunity to make and set a high standard for a new genre and haven't really succeeded so it will be a lot harder to get GW2 pvp doing well than it would have been for GW.

I'll likely buy it. Despite the total mismangement of the pvp aspect of this game - in which they took a promising competative game and ran it into the ground - I simply enjoy the format. I like GvG's I like the skill system, and if they take all the good things as a core and improve on two years of experience it could be quite good. To be honest I haven't seen any other games that replicate the kind of PvP format that GW has, and that is one of the main reasons I'll probably give it a try. I may look into Fury and see how it goes. Not certain.

Judging game balance by how long terribly-designed abilities stay useless isn't a very good measure. And they have been digging skills out of the trash heap, they even dug out Otyugh's Cry, but some skills can't really be viable and not hurt the game because the design is moronic. Discord is a great example of what happens when forcing skills into viability becomes the objective.

That's why I said *redesign* aka *tweak* those skills. I know exactly what you mean, but I don't think you got my point either I said that ANet made numerous skills which were never meant to be played from the beginning. Then I said that those skills should at least be changed so they do something worthwhile taking, since buffing/nerfing them won't do anything but cause problems. Something like Nature's Renewal.. you just have to tweak the skill, you can't nerf it a lil bit.

So, yes, I agree with you that some skills are moronic in design. Take a look at Lyssa's Aura. Was that skill really designed to be used?


btw I didn't judge 'game balance' with this, but 'game balancing'. If you know what I mean

Yes, but I'm still going to be getting GW2. No other PvP games come close to the being as good as the system in GW.

My thoughts as well. They have the foundation for a great competative which they've happened to mismanage. I've never seen anything that is as appealing in other games.

GW2 is a chance for a fresh start, and I don't really know that some other game is going to be managed any better. Even with the screw ups and mismanagement I'm still here now playing the thing and having some fun, and in the past loads of fun, which to me is a testament to quality of the basic concept of how the game functions.

This is me as well. They talked a bit talk and had great ideas, but they utterly failed at the end. I didn't buy GWEN because I won't give Anet any more money. It will take some more efforts to win me back. In the mean time, I am playing PotBS and will probably get warhammer also.
