I like how the condition removal is overall terrible, yet Dervishes get the tree, with Wearying and a speed boost no less.

I got to Power Spike AoD though. That made me giggle.

Most fun I've had by myself in a long time. Of course, we'd need maybe 1-2 more builds per char so it doesn't get stale?

picture this: each month anet holds official threads where they crack open skill packs and the community selects 1 build for each profession AND then, they implement the build in-game, for costume brawl. it would honestly be a dream come true.

A format similar to this that was competitve (say not random teams) would be amazing however. Sealed skillbars is great imo, matches would be decided on player skill and tactics.

However, these skillbars fail

I like the idea where the community picks/votes skillbars for the next month.

Would be nice to have less-than-ideal skillbars, but not crap ones. That's something I really like about this event.

Exactly! If this gametype were competitively released, it would be right up along there with GvG in terms of skill requirement and tactics execution eventually, IMO.

I'm not entirely sure if that would be possible. With the community choosing the templates, you could end up with some deep imbalances in the system, since some of the templates delve into one thing too deeply for counters to compensate. Example: players choose to take a Water ele, curses necro, and hex assassin, but the only copy of hex removal available is a single skill on the monk template. You see what I mean? It would be cool to have the community have a say (through having something like a "CB template suggestions thread" or something), but to have the community get direct control over direct balance would eventually turn the gametype into a balance nightmare.

I'm glad for your support, though, guys. 800+ views in less than 24 hours! Let's keep up the good work.

Sin, This bar is win here
Ele, good
Dervish, great

Paragon, the most epic fail paragon bar I have ever seen since starting playing the class, EVERY other class at least has some DPS, this bar just fails, not only the bar, you dont meet the req on your shield either

I played there as every class now, and dervish/ranger/mesmer/rit are the best.

WTF were they thinking with that paragon bar!!!!!! Its firetrucking ridiculous.
And monk, lets spam Healing Breeze and Banish, which are actually the first 2 skills you get in presearing, followed up by bane signet ._.

Mesmer and Dervish are easily the best two. Dervish gets condition immunity among a ton of bars that depend on conditions to work and a powerful self-heal. Mesmer gets abilities to cockblock practically everyone.

Assassins? Shatter AOD, Empathy, spam e-denial, p-spike Shadow Refuge.
Dervish? Empathy, surge, spike/leech Vital Boon.
Warrior? Empathy, Complicate healsig.
Ranger? Surge/Burn/Feast, empathy, spam e-denial, leech Troll.
Monk? Complicate a signet, spam e-denial.
Ele? Shatter attunement, spam e-denial, Complicate GoLE, p-spike and leech Glowing Gaze repeatedly.
Necro? See above.
Paragon? lolwut?
Ritualist? Leech/Complicate the binding rituals.

Thumbs up back to the point

this thread has slightly gone off topic, i agree with drasu costume brawls are a brilliant pvp type for newcomers and veterans, very easy to play, no set up required and a lot of fun, i would play them competitively if implemented and i think a lot of the gw community would as well, whether anet has the time and resources to do this is the real issue.

Yea, after playing them for a while I have to agree that constume brawl is ridiculously fun for some reason, especially in teams full of sins (by far the least skill-intensive good build that still has some depth, AoD exploitation on small maps ftw).

However, I'm not so sure about competitively. If they limited it to one build per class, probably not. If they set up 2-4 builds that you could pick out of, preferably with some choices in some skills (bull's or dblow or ddagger, SoA or SH, etc.) that allowed some changing for personal preference, I might consider it.

However, I'm still not sure about 5v5 and the maps in general (as I said, AoD = win), but I'm assuming that ANet would actually put some effort into designing this.

I'm not sure if that's a good idea. I would prefer if the builds were completely static, because otherwise you would end up with a lot of balancing issues in both creating the bars and making sure that they're balanced (example: Shield of absorbsion might be a better pick than Shielding hands because of the lack of consistent enchantment removal on the other preset bars). A good way to keep the gametype refreshed IMO is just to have a new set of skillbars published every AT season (Or maybe even every other AT season- IMO, the meta could have that longevity before beginning to stagnate). That way, the meta doesn't become too stagnated, and there's always a new horizon of tactics and gameplay for each season, keeping players interested.

A good analogy that a friend gave to me when I explained the competitive potential of Costume Brawl to him was that it would be kind of like a fighting game- you only have a few characters to play with, and your opponent can choose from the same pool of characters that you have, but that doesn't limit the game at all- it only encourages the fact that the players are winning through skill and strategy. That's kind of the same way with the builds in Costume Brawl- you and your opponent have the exact same builds to work with, but through putting them through different combinations, you see a near-limitless amount of different strategies, execution, and mindgames.

Keep in mind, though:Anet balancers have the ability to easily put curbs on what could be considered broken for Costume Brawl by being able to modify the preset skillbars.

I'm glad you agree, and you touch on a good point about whether Anet has the resources right now to do it. I realize that right now Anet has priority on other projects and ideas, but I don't see why this couldn't be put on a to-do list of sorts. If I know that eventually, CB will be released competitively, that's good enough for me.

I think CB is a great idea. I like the interaction that occurs from the skills (such as Shatter Enchantment vs. an AoD sin, Complicate vs. Healing Signet, Shield Bash vs. Pin Down). This allows skill and execution in the field to be most important not creativity in the build factory (which is still fun, but since Nightfall...).

CB is such a great PvP match, it's perfect; veterans and newbies can both fully enjoy PvP and still improve. I hope Anet uses CB as a competitive gameplay type.

I enjoyed the 5v5 format.

I know a lot of people had a lot of hate for the monk bars, but I got really use to it after a while, it's sorta pathetic, truth be told.

It was like, pre-prot with HB (I lol'd at it, I know, but what else you gonna do), watch for the AoD spike on you, they AoD, you Bane Sig. If Sig of Dev and HB were taken out for better skills, and switched the smiting skills around, it'd be really fun.

/signed for sealed play competitive format
