While the swaps here offer better "layers" of energy than someone with just one set, it doesn't take advantage of the useful mods some sets can have like 40/40 40/20/20. And I've never been a fan of the Spear+Focus combination. Unless you don't plan on the utility and face serious e-denial, all those layers aren't necessary compared to the regular 35 (or 25), 40, 42, 72 sets.

It's also worth noting that you don't really need more than one set to counter e-denial - sitting in your 25 energy set is not only a better counter to e-denial than layered energy sets, but it allows you to take efficiency sets as Divine said.

Where is your dual fast cast/recharge set?

Where is your enchanting set?

Where is your cripple shield? :-(

This guide is not comprehensive, by all means make suggestions. and I will add them in addendum. Please make them clear, and specify whether you mean to suggest a change (something is wrong), an addition (something needs to be added), or an alternative.

also please note, this is a beginner's guide, so I am trying to keep the core it fairly generic/basic.

thanks for the feedback.

No efficiency sets is bad. I'd suggest using a shield/defense set (can double as a low energy), 2 efficiency sets (depending on build, usually a 40/20 prot staff of enchanting and 40/40 heal or prot set), and a +30/-2 set.

That's a bit outdated, hearkens back to the boonprot days where you didn't need 40/40s because of how powerful booned RoFs were so you had the luxury of running layered energy sets to deal with the edenial meta. Now when getting the max efficiency out of WoH and Aegis can be gamebreaking, along with the extremely interrupt-heavy meta, having FC/FR sets is pretty much required.

@holymasamune
good comments. you're probably right about spear/focus. I will look into this and probably change it.

I will add something about hct/hsr mods. This is a good point.
