There are a bunch of skills I'd rate as first-pick skills (i.e. unless one in the list is already there you're going to take it). Most are elite simply because GW elites are stronger than comparable normal skills - although as Ensign points out you have to be careful about overpicking elites. BL and Prodigy clearly make the list - BL because it solves a bunch of problems you may have with one pick (I'm guessing a monk with just BL on the bar isn't that terrible in limited), Prodigy because it allows you to power overcosted skills and spam good skills.

I think I'd start off with:

Blessed Light (as above)
Ether Prodigy (as above)
Crippling Shot (another 1-slot character)
Ferocious Strike (splashable, damage, opens up pet, energy engine)
Distracting Shot (generic shutdown, interrupt)
Eviscerate (single-skill spike threat)

They really need a "Sealed" Arena in-game, haha! 32 people go in at a time per game and are placed into 8 random groups of 4 people each. After getting your skills and making your characters, you would do instant elimination matches (ie. 3 rounds of play until one team wins) and the winning team would get a point towards their "Sealed Play" title plus some other small reward. That would be SO much fun. You'd just have to give the winning teams something to do while they waited for their next match-up.

I would definitely have picked Gale and Bestial Pounce for the two sample packs so far.

For your "instant pick" skills I'd definitely add Blinding Surge to the list. It's splashable and can shut down an entire player by itself.

I quite agree with all these picks. However, Lingering is conditionally useful.

But I wouldn't have picked it either, so...

I can't think of any instabomb skills other than ones that are listed, but that's partly because I'm uber-sleepy.

So, do you want me to give full packs, or simulate a real draft?

Let's simulate a draft.

Guild draft, two players per guild, four guilds draft.

Opening pack:

Searing Heat
Phyiscal Resistance
Vengeance
Warrior's Cunning
Deflect Arrows
Disciplined Stance
Riposte
Thrill of Victory
Blinding Flash
Feedback
Vampiric Swarm
Chilblains
Barbed Trap
Mind Freeze
Soul Leech
Crippling Shot

My pick: Crippling Shot, hands down.

No, pick as before. I'll just take the majority of the choices, and count that as the card that the drafter picks..

Vengeance.

Ok, ok, just kidding. Clearly you take crippling shot. A more interesting question is what's the 2nd pick (i.e. what you take after someone passes you the booster minus cripshot). I think I'd take Blinding Flash.

Crippling Shot is going to be first because of its utility, Searing Flames second because of its strength.

Edit: I assume when I get this Crip Shot would be gone, so searing flames has a great recharge 2 sec, and I figure not many people would pick fire ele skills in a draft anyways.

Edit2: Bflash also needs a strong battery to power it.

It's Searing Heat listed, not Searing Flames. And yeah, I was worried about energy, that's why I'm not sure Flash is a clear 2nd pick. Barbed Trap? I'm really not 100% on the 2nd pick.

I think we should organize a Draft tournament, utilizing guild scrimmages.

Actually, I meant to treat it as an ordinary pack...the next pack will have 1 less card, and so on.

Crippling shot, because it's such an awesome skill. My second draft would be either Barbed Trap or Mind Freeze though. Even if Freeze isn't as good as Shock, it's still a very powerful snare. Barbed Trap speaks for itself.

With the sample pack you provided, crip shot is a no-brainer, because most of those skills are terrible. Second round pick is barbed, but too bad you're going to lose a bunch of ranger skills to the guy that just handed you the pack.

However, most of the drafts I did in magic were rare-drafting. too bad the concept doesn't apply the same here in guild wars.

LMAO, yes, same here. If I ever got a card that I needed for a real deck, or even just a fun deck, I'd take it immediately. MTG is not a cheap game; I definitely spent several thousands on it over the course of the time I played.

Sorry, I'll rephrase:

Orison is my first pick.

Second will probably be something like dust.
