people dont start playing competetively in order to teach others - they CAN do that, but its not their primary objective. Also, it greatly depends on those who want to be taught - what kind of progress have they made on their own so far? Are they just waiting for knowledge to be brought to them in a plate along with a small doze of exp?
When you start playing in a new environment, first thing you do is get to know it well, recognise regular players and then play and play and play and in doing so gather enough experience to be able to play with others who have already gone through that and are still doing it. But for that you need a big self-initiative (?) and that is what most of the pve'ers lack, when they want to shift from pve to pvp. Do they get scared off because they dont get welcomed with flowers and candy? Or maybe because they realise it would take too much effort and they are not willing to give so much of it to an aspect of the game they becomes enjoyable only after you've overcome all of the obstacles on your way of becoming good and experienced? There could be many reasons to it, as many as there's players, i guess.

People in PvP leave faster than there are new recruits coming in, you guys have a problem. Does Anet have to teach them? Well they can't, as most of the good players know the game better than the devs do. Sure Anet made mistakes but I believe PvP in this game doesn't work for the masses otherwise we wouldn't even discuss this. It's not MTG and it's not Starcraft, it lacks ingredients and goodwill from all actors to become even close. PvE and PvP are two different games within the game. Where is the carrot to draw people away from PvE? There is no carrot, on the contrary, you get a kick under the 4ss for being noob. Yet you magically need to self educate.
Pvp (at least, the high end pvp) never works for masses. Read up for reasons. There's also sth called the potential and the ability to learn, and to learn fast. Im sure it has been mentioned a few times already in this thread.

What do you want man seriously, what's your creative view on things? Or do you just wanne blame Anet and Gaile? Think GW2 will be the answer?
according to your own mentality you can choose either pve or pvp, but that does not change the fact that Gaile did not do enough (well, anything) for the pvp aspect of this dying (or already dead, from the pvp perspective) game.

also, there's a pvp aspect to GW2? What, jumping from one tree to another and gank archers by shooting arrows from trees over walls? :P

This thread has gotten off topic so far that it's not even funny. Now I will exercise my Nazi mod skillz and close it before it turns into a PvP vs PvE debate. If you want to discuss whatever's being discussed here, go make a new thread. But at least we can all celebrate Gaile Gray leaving.
