There is a big difference between rawr matches being shit and rawr itself being shit. I went for the first one, but won't get near the second. Rawr is a great guild that figured out a playstyle that best suits their players. And they are very effective at that. Doesn't make their matches any more interesting. But just because I think the match was boring, doesn't mean I think rawr is bad.
However, there are 2 guilds in a GvG. It isn't like rawr is going to change builds against anyone except dR. Then why does StS run a build with 4 physicals against them? To me that doesn't look smart. Rawr is known for being the best defensive guild in the game. So you add some more players with 'block, block, miss, block'. I remember vZ blowing them up in 3 minutes, that must still be possible. Why would anyone try to beat rawr on their own game? After the last months, everyone should know already that just isn't going to happen.
The main reason I'm disappointed with the final is that it was on Frozen. On Frozen I expect splitting, lots of knockdowns on the ice, things like that. Instead of that I saw a match that could have been played on any map and would have had the same result. If that is a sign of the current balance in the game, then there is lots of work to be done.

The answer is really easy. After we thought against [uF] with nearly the same build [rawr] was playing, and won against [uF], we decided to not start splitting against [rawr] which will prepare on 2-/3-man splits (e.g. BSurger with HBreeze, etc.) and running flags with warriors (what they have even done) to prepare for VoD. They will dominate VoD at least with some minor NPC disadvantage.

So we took the option to face in a 8vs8 and with a stable VoD build. Well, it's a pity that we underestimated the value of "Shields up!", but were at least able to get a slightly advantage at VoD. Than we lost the game due to a tactical mistake by running flag instead of pushing harder on them.

It is. Like the decision to take Endure Pain on hammer warriors.

[Hand] getting 4 minute flawlessed by shockwave spike was quite funny to watch.

That's too bad we were playing and couldn't see some of the interesting matches. Most games in the finals are insanely boring, and like it has been said I expected to see epic splitting on frozen. Anyway the mAT was good for us, lot of points, bronze and fair battles mostly. My only regret is losing to sinsplit.

I didn't expect any amount of splitting in the final, regardless of who the two teams were to be honest. The first 3 rounds of the top 16 were sufficiently hostile to split that it was going to filter the crowd down to the best 8v8 guilds. No guild left in the game is versatile enough to be dominant in 8v8 situations and as an aggressive split team; it seemed obvious that we'd end up with a final of 8v8 teams with only token splitting. It's like the rawr vs Storm Hogs final, you can put it on Wurms or any other map you want, but if neither team wants to split there's nothing you can do with map choice to force it.

I find it sad Sts choose to go head to head with the rawr fortressway. Like banging your head into a brick wall for 18 minutes. Especially on frozen.

The final was on Frozen. He split to kill 2 archers and a dervish. You're thinking of the final swiss match.

Point still is the same, I don't call that splitting. Or do you call what he did against SpNv splitting too? (In case you didn't see it, he did a staring contest with their runner.)

It was 50seconds, not 3 minutes.

I doubt it's possible to do such a thing on frozen isle, but perhaps the best guild in the game wouldve pulled it off, they are afterall the best guild in the game.

I haven't tested it at all but isn't the e/d still a viable template? Having an extra split character always used to own rawr builds. Then again this is all armchair theorycrafting in hindsight.

If a guild is packing a hyperdefensive setup for VoD with hyperdefensive splits, is it even technically possible to package a sufficiently aggressive split into something that's at par with their VoD / stand game?

Ye, its stupid lol but since rawr always run the same, i dont get why no one just counters them. And on a map like frozen, I think you should be able to make them go crazy.
