Default i'm terrible at PvP, help

I've played 8-10 RAs and have won ONE. I put together a 'cookie cutter' build the best I could and all my equipment is pretty top notch, filled with runes and insignias and such. I don't know what I'm missing. I can't win or kill anything. I get demolished by people who barely lose health when I hit them or constantly regenerate even when no monk is around. And assassins tear me apart slice by slice and block all of my attacks.

Here's a screenshot,

Any tips? Suggestions? Advice? I don't have factions or EOTN yet, just NF and proph.

Stop giving him bad advice. You don't need a self heal, a self condition removal like [skill]mending touch[/skill] would be much better, especially given the amount of Signet of Midnight Mesmers and Necros carrying enfeeble going around.

You're never going to kill anything with Flail since your targets will just kite you. Take frenzy instead (use Rush as a cancel stance if you're coming under fire.

I can't really be sure why you're dying so quickly, my best guess would be that you're swinging through hexes like [skill]empathy[/skill] or [skill]insidious parasite[/skill], rushing ahead of everyone into battle, or overextending.

Anyway, this is a decent bar for someone with NF/Proph:

[skill]crippling slash[/skill][skill]gash[/skill]-attack skill-[skill]bull's strike[/skill][skill]Mending touch[/skill][skill]frenzy[/skill][skill]rush[/skill][skill]resurrection signet[/skill]

Dont play warrior unless your eviscerate shock axe, or hammer warrior?
Necros eles and monks are most fun in pvp, and are more versatile.

Did this thread start in riverside? What's with all the shit advice? You don't need a self heal, you need a build that does some damage.

[skill]Eviscerate[/skill][skill]Executioner's Strike[/skill][skill]Disrupting Chop[/skill][skill]Bull's Strike[/skill][skill]Conjure Frost[/skill][skill]Frenzy[/skill][skill]rush[/skill][skill]resurrection signet[/skill]

That's a pretty basic build with good pressure and (I think) proph only skills.

You need to learn kiting, better positioning, when to actually use your skills, and such.

I won a couple finally. Was everyone this bad to start?

I'd hate to switch to axe, I'm poor.

Yes.

Make a PvP character, it's easier and better, since you don't have to buy equipment.

if you want to learn to play warrior, play a standard shock axe build.

[build prof=W/E axe=12+1+1 str=12 air=3][eviscerate][executioner's strike][bull's strike][shock][frenzy][rush][no skill][resurrection signet][/build]

empty skillslot can be :
[disrupting chop]
[lion's comfort]
[conjure [email protected]] (get 10 air in this case and 8+1 strength for your shield)

also, read this : http://www.teamquitter.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3484
It's written by a very good warrior (Chiizu), and contains a lot of helpful tips and tricks. Though aimed for GvG play, the guide, especially the basics, are just as useful in RA.

Also, make a PvP character, and unlock the key axe skills and key runes (minor axe, superior vigor, vitae and minor strength), armor insignia (survivor and stonefist) and weapon upgrades (vampiric, elemental, zealous and fortitude, and the +15% damage while health above 50% inscription). Should be pretty easy to get after a few days of PvPing.

Don't worry about being "bad", everyone needs to learn. good luck with it and if you have any questions, you're always welcome to whisper me. (Ingame name is under my avatar)

You dont have to change to axe, or hammer if u dont want to.
This is a decent sword build, good for spike, and preassure.
Remember if u wanna run the conjure, you need fire damage on your weapon, conjure frost or lightning, you need ice or light damage. (fiery, shocking, icy)
[Skill]Crippling Slash[/Skill][Skill]Gash[/Skill][Skill]Sun and moon slash[/Skill][Skill]Bull's Strike[/Skill][Skill]Conjure Flame[/Skill][Skill]Frenzy[/Skill][Skill]Rush[/Skill][Skill]resurrection signet[/Skill]

The problem with this build is that you will not be able to remove any blind, weakness or hex. So you gotta wait it out, if there isnt a monk, or other character in your team that can remove it for you.

Another tip for you in pvp, is that if u fail to strike the foe, try to change target for a while- to later go back.
And if someone else is hitting you, use rush to get rid of frenzy, you dont wanna take alot of hits with frenzy on you.

Remove Endure Pain and Pure Strike.
The majority of Warrior's energy skills are usually weak.
Wild Blow on a Dervish or 'Sin is fine, and Bull's Strike is just sex in a pixel box.

Endure Pain is usually a better way of being a die now skill.

In PvP, Frenzy reigns superior. Since your bar has a snare (Crip Slash), I guess Flail is okay.

Put in Res Sig for Endure, and another utility skill in for Pure. Disarm is quite sexy with it's skills shutdown, and adrenaline kill.

And make a PvP character! You have to invest in alot of money to bring a PvE character to a playable PvP level (Meaning all the gear and stuff.)

And has Pesi said, if things block, switch targets. Always go for squishies (Low armoured targets, such as most casters). If there isn't anything else, slash away.

14 Sword, 13 Strength, 3 Air
[skill]crippling slash[/skill][skill]gash[/skill][skill]Final Thrust[/skill][skill]bull's strike[/skill][skill]Shock[/skill][skill]frenzy[/skill][skill]rush[/skill][skill]resurrection signet[/skill]

14 Sword, 9 Strength, 10 Wind
[skill]crippling slash[/skill][skill]gash[/skill][skill]Final Thrust[/skill][skill]bull's strike[/skill][skill]Natural Healing[/skill][skill]frenzy[/skill][skill]Harrier's Haste[/skill][skill]resurrection signet[/skill]

My two favorite variants of the Cripslash bar (I prefer "Coward!", but sadly for you that's Factions).

The Shock version is going to get you kills more easily. Shock is a fantastic skill in RA, particularly when you chain it with Bull's (time it so they get knocked back down as soon as they stand up, before they can cast again).

The Natural Healing bar gives you a decent self heal, if your team has limited ability to keep you alive.

I'd normally just go with the Shock bar, and rely on getting a Monk to keep me up. If you don't get a Monk you are going to lose sooner or later anyway, but Natural works well if you aren't that picky and want some sustainability.

There isn't a viable condition removal that can keep up with Signet of Midnight Mesmers, so normally I'd just try and Shock it or kite the Mesmer as much as possible with Rush whilst still hitting things. Dual Blind reduction (rune and shield) helps a lot.

Since you don't have Factions i would suggest the build Pesi gave and change sun and moon slash to final thrust. And maybe frenzy for flail since it's criplash build so your target should be crippled anyway.

Edit; with the conjure of your own choise with 12+1+1 Swords, 8 or 9 +1 strenght and rest in the conjure attribute. Personaly i would go for 9+1 strenght since weakness isn't that rare in RA, at least it's nearly on every Necro bar i play ( [Enfeeble] )

The reason why your not damaging anyone was probably because you were targeting Monk's who just spam guardian, which is a very annoying skill, and extremely hard to interrupt. Random Arenas depends, as the name implies, on the team you randomly get assigned to. So don't beat yourself up too much, your team sometimes just doesn't work together.

Just wondering, doesn't 20 seconds on a cancel stance seem a little dangerous in the case of Frenzy?
I know it's mainly the squishies being attacked, but if you're taking damage from say...Lightning Orb, or whatever, what're you going to do while it's not up and they catch you in Frenzy?

And yeah, Coward Warrior > all other sword builds.

youuuu probably don't use Frenzy when HH is not recharged.

I already posted this but apparently a mod was busy deleting stuff. You don't want to use [[Final Thrust] when you have [[Rush] as your cancel stance for either [[Frenzy] or [[Flail].

With Frenzy you'll get yourself exploded when you disable your rush via final.
With Flail you'll cripple yourself when your target still lives after using final. It'll kite you and you won't be able to catch it.

In response to both of these; it depends on the situation, just play smart. You can Frenzy without a cancel stance immediately available in RA without being punished for it. It's rare to see anything with that level of threat your health bar in short downtime periods - and if there is you probably shouldn't be in frenzy in the first place .

Without factions or EotN, I like this bar, but I would probably test out Steelfang slash in Final Thrust's place, because it looks like it might still be viable in that bar.

Thanks for summing that up for me. Looks like I need to grab my Warrior Tomes myself....
